WipEout co-creator Nick Burcombe has announced Table Top Racing: World Tour - a timed PlayStation 4 exclusive.

Burcombe, who dreamed up the idea of futuristic racer WipEout with Psygnosis colleague Jim Bowers over a few drinks at the Shrewsbury Arms in Oxton, Merseyside, said Table Top Racing: World Tour is in the early stages of development for a raft of platforms, including PC, mobile and consoles - but it'll launch first on PlayStation 4 in Q4 2015.

Development is being led on PS4, Burcombe added. "With a long history of hit games for PlayStation over the decades, we feel that the PlayStation platform is our spiritual home and to make a return to console development, as an indie developer, feels like a dream come true."

World Tour marks the first time Burcombe has worked directly on a PlayStation home console title since 2007 PlayStation 3 game Formula One Championship Edition.

It's also the next version of the Micro Machines-inspired Table Top Racing series, which developer Playrise has seen substantial success with on mobile devices. The developers are using the Unity 5 engine to build World Tour, with four-player split-screen as well as online play a particular focus.

"Shall we mention the fact that TTR is out on Vita?"

"Nah"

"But, we're going to mention that it's out on mobile"

"Still nah"

"OK".

Having played the first, the overhead option was the worst. It felt more like an after thought in development than how the tracks were intended to be played.

That game was Table Top Racing, which launched on iOS devices in January 2013. An Android version released a year later, in January 2014. The Vita version went live in August.

:p

I wasn't a massive fan of TTR on Vita. It was okay. It felt kinda slow though, with not enough weapons.

A good base game though. Maybe this one will improve upon it.

Hmm might be good, love me some Micro Machines or Motorstorm RC...was that WRC arcade game any good on PS3? Never saw any substantial deal on this game, would buy.

I always thought Micro Machines had suspect controls.

Blaspheme. Micro Machines was perfect. It was hilarious watching someone accidentally go left when they meant to go right because they were heading down the screen.

This doesn't appear to be top-down, though, so it can sod off. There aren't enough top-down racers these days, even though Little Racers STREET showed that they're still fucking amazing.

Douchebag. Yes, me.
The original game was a mediocre mobile game.

Then it came out on Vita as a mediocre port of a mediocre mobile game.

The words "WipeOut" and "MicroMachines" shouldn't even be mentioned when it comes to this game.

I played the PSV version and it was terrible. Plus it had horrible FTP tactics applied, even though it was a paid game.

Speaking of 2D MicroMachines, is there any legal download option for that on any platform? Like a virtual console-ish re-release?

Agreed, why change something what works so great... top down view, you go offscreen and your eliminated, the way MM was meant to be played.

Yes, F1 cars on the pool table prove the controls were fucking tight.

And yes, looking at the screen shots, this doesn't look much like Micro Machines at all. /sigh

I own the game on Android (Shield edition). Is a fun little cart racer, but not more than that. Don't expect a deep experience.

The Vita game had an alternate camera angle for top-down gameplay. Presumably that will be the same on PS4.

Lol we were four on 2 controllers. Each controlling its own car. up and down would be to control one car and A and Y would control another one. Awesome stuff

Did the same with my siblings and cousins, just on the PS1 on 4 controllers (8 people). Was so much fun back then.
