SCEA Unveils Extraordinary Showing of Genre Defying Titles Across PLAYSTATION(R)3, PlayStation(R)Portable, PLAYSTATION(R)Network and PlayStation(R)2 Platforms LOS ANGELES, July 15

LOS ANGELES, July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Computer Entertainment America
Inc. (SCEA) today unveiled a broad line up of software for PLAYSTATION(R)3
(PS3(TM)), PSP(R) (PlayStation(R)Portable), and PLAYSTATION(R)Network during
a press event to kick off the annual E3 Media & Business Summit 2008. In
addition to revealing new content for over 20 first-party software titles
previously announced, SCEA gave attendees a look at over 10 never before seen
titles including PS3 system titles God of War(R)3 and MAG, Ratchet & Clank(R)
Future: Quest for Booty for PLAYSTATION Network and Resistance:
Retribution(TM) for the PSP system. An extensive look into Resistance 2(TM),
the highly anticipated sequel of PS3 launch title, Resistance: Fall of Man(R),
was given by Insomniac Games President Ted Price to kick off the show.

"The PlayStation family of products is unsurpassed in 2008 with a lineup
of exclusive content for all platforms developed by the best and brightest
development teams in the world," said Scott A. Steinberg, vice president of
product marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America. "We are dedicated to
driving the industry forward leveraging our technology and development
resources to offer consumers a wide variety of innovative titles, from casual
games to hardcore games."

PS3 titles showcased during E3 2008 include Sony Computer Entertainment's
next generation open world adventure inFamous from Sly Cooper creators Sucker
Punch Productions; LittleBigPlanet(TM) which allows players to create, play
and share entire game levels via PLAYSTATION Network; the wild tropical racing
action of Motorstorm(TM): Pacific Rift from Evolution Studios; the much
speculated God Of War 3 in full 1080p high definition; NBA'09: The Inside
featuring the detailed and engaging NBA experience both on the court and
behind the scenes; the ultra realistic "Theater of War" epic, Killzone(TM) 2
from Guerilla Games; and SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation, the return of
the defacto online shooter experience with up to 32 players.

The highly-acclaimed Ratchet & Clank(R) series makes an appearance with a
fresh title created specifically for PLAYSTATION Network by Insomniac Games,
Ratchet & Clank(R) Future: Quest for Booty. Other original content available
through PLAYSTATION Network was also on display, granting guest access to
previously unseen footage of the experimental PixelJunk(TM) Eden from Q-Games,
independent gaming experience of Flower, the episodic Siren: Blood Curse and
previously unannounced games like Crash Commando and Fat Princess.

SCEA also announced some of its most entertaining titles making their
portable premieres on the PSP system with the quiz show fun of BUZZ!(TM)
Master Quiz, an updated and portable version of the classic arcade game Super
Stardust Portable and sequels to two of the most innovative platform action
games to hit PSP; LocoRoco(TM)2 and Patapon(TM)2. Unveiled to the public for
the first time was Resistance: Retribution(TM), a third person shooter
developed by SCEA's Bend Studio based in the Resistance universe and featuring
a proprietary control system designed specifically for the PSP system.

In addition to SCEA's robust first-party line-up, PlayStation fans will
have further reason to get excited about expanding their game libraries as
over 350 new titles from their publishing partners will be released this
fiscal year for the PS3, PLAYSTATION Network, PSP and PlayStation(R)2 systems,
encompassing industry leading franchises as well as new intellectual
properties from Capcom(R), Midway(R), NAMCO BANDAI GAMES AMERICA, and Sega(R).
Exclusive titles that will only be found on the PS3 system this holiday season
include Valkyria Chronicles(TM), a ground-breaking tactical RPG from SEGA(R)'s
Japan Studios; Naruto(TM): Ultimate Ninja Storm(R) from NAMCO BANDAI GAMES
AMERICA which introduces full 3D ninja combat and all-new free-roaming
gameplay; and Disgaea 3, a new twist on the Disgaea battle system in 3D from

Lucas Arts(TM), Ubisoft(R), and Take Two Interactive also provided attendees

3, Madden NFL 09, Star Wars(R): The Force Unleashed(TM), Far Cry 2, Prince of

PS3 footage already seen earlier this year.

Running through a village and discovering a wife that likes when you belch.....ok....demoed.

Really? Do we need to discuss this again? Miis+XMB. Sony showed Home. Kicked MS's ass.

Great! Rent more badly compressed movies alongside other badly compressed movies already on XB360. Wait. What?
FF13 atomic bomb

Fixed :)

You know, it's pretty obvious you're a silly fanboy, which I tend not to call people, but you take the cake.

Why, you ask?

[RE5 was] PS3 footage already seen earlier this year.

Are you dense?

It's pretty simple sony showed more quality exclusive games coming to the ps3 then microsoft showed quality exclusive games coming to the 360, not to mention they showed off a great line up for the psp. Sony conference > microsoft conference.

No they didn't. The biggest was CGI trailers and an incredible scripted boss battle. PSP games was awesome though.

But the general people out there are alreay crowning MS the winner.

Video Delivery Service:

PLAYSTATION(R)Network's Video Delivery Service to Offer Movies and TV Shows for Purchase and Rental Through PLAYSTATION(R)3 and PSP(R) (Playstation(R)Portable)

New service to expand entertainment offering of PLAYSTATION 3 and PSP giving consumers downloadable content when and where they want it

FOSTER CITY, Calif., July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) today launches the company's new video delivery service on PLAYSTATION(R)Store for PLAYSTATION(R)3 (PS3(TM)) and PSP(R) (PlayStation(R)Portable) systems in the United States. Consumers will have the ability to download full-length movies, television shows, and original programming accessible through the PLAYSTATION Store on PLAYSTATION(R)Network. With nearly 300 full length movies and more than 1,200 TV episodes, many available in both standard-definition (SD) and high-definition (HD), PLAYSTATION Network's video delivery service makes PS3 the ultimate entertainment platform and enhances PSP's status as a portable entertainment marvel. PLAYSTATION Network's video delivery service will become available later this evening.

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) will initially make available to consumers content for video rental and electronic sell-through from top movie studios including: 20th Century Fox, Lionsgate Entertainment, MGM Studios, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Warner Bros. Entertainment as well as titles for rent from The Walt Disney Studios and a wide-ranging menu of popular titles from a variety of television partners.

"PLAYSTATION Network's video delivery service capitalizes on the superior value and entertainment potential of PS3 and PSP -- not only for gaming enthusiasts, but also for the millions of consumers looking to buy the best, most versatile solution for their home entertainment system," said Jack Tretton, president and CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment America. "The collaboration of Sony's film, TV and entertainment business units, coupled with our hardware and content offerings, provide consumers with entertainment experiences unlike any on the market."

The video delivery service will have full integration in the PLAYSTATION Network, utilizing the same login, wallet management, and user interface of the newly revamped PLAYSTATION Store. Video will be categorized, for example, by top rating, alphabetical order, television shows, and movies and content is also fully searchable, for example, by title, producer, studio and cast. In addition, PS3's progressive downloading means users can view content shortly after the downloading process begins. Background downloading is also a feature of PS3, allowing users to access other platform features such as gaming and other XMB(TM) (XrossMediaBar) content while a video is downloading to their consoles.

20th Century Fox's "Jumper", Lionsgate's "3:10 to Yuma", MGM's "Rocky", Paramount Pictures' "Cloverfield", Sony Pictures' "Spider-Man", and Warner Bros. Entertainment's "10,000 B.C." are a few of the titles available for electronic sell-through on the video service at launch. Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" will also be available for rent. Additionally, SCEI will be introducing original exclusive content such as Xam'd: Lost Memories, an anime series developed by Sony Computer Entertainment Japan, delivered in SD and HD.

Consumers who rent a movie from the video delivery service have 14 days to watch the content. Once content playback is started, consumers have a full 24 hours to enjoy their rental. Pricing for rental movies at launch ranges from $2.99 to $5.99, and pricing for purchased movies ranges from $9.99 to $14.99. Sony has also adopted Marlin Digital Rights Management technology, an open industry standard for protecting and managing digital content, to provide consumers with flexible access to their content while ensuring digital rights are protected. Usage rules of the video download service will allow content for purchase to be shared on multiple activated devices including PS3 and PSP systems per PLAYSTATION Network account, depending on the type of content purchased by the user.

One of the biggest value propositions of PLAYSTATION Network's video delivery service is the ability to transfer digital content onto the PSP from the PS3. For the initial electronic sell-through or rental price, consumers can also transfer content onto multiple devices. The connectivity between PS3 and PSP platforms provides a seamless solution for those looking for entertainment experiences on their own terms -- on the go or in their living room -- all with a new-found freedom of not having to worry about TV schedules, movie listings or viewing on a desktop PC.

So 2007 was the year of talking about PS3 hardware.

2008 was the year of talking about Software.

Yet the entire time they kept talking about how awesome the PS3 hardware was and movie rentals while teasing games.

I don't own either console so this is an objective point of view.

Microsoft: C
The only surprising revelation was the FFXIII announcement. Every other game was expected. Unfortunately, this game probably won't be out until 2010 in North America and Europe. The casual gaming segment that featured the 3 douche bags doing the chicken dance was embarrassing to say the least.

Sony: B
Revealed games no one knew anything about. Added 40GB to the core PS3 and basically eliminated any advantage the 60GB 360 might have had. Announced MMO's also looked interesting. MAG was a showstopper.

Nintendo: E
Stopped watching when I saw Shawn White snowboarding on a Wii fit board with his mom.

MS wins. Even without the FFXIII announcement I would've still said that. I thought the pacing was a bit better.

Sony had good stuff with boring stuff. Jack Trenton should loosen up a little, not pretend to be. InFamous looked amazing and the video store had a nice pricing scheme. MAG in concept sounds awesome and well thats it I guess... I had low expectations and I still feel like I wasted time. Eh.

Had they unveiled Heavy Rain or Team Ico's project I would've been more content.

Really? They showed off a SingStar rip-off and a Mii rip-off (even visually they looked like Mii's). Not to mention the terrible "Mercy" performance.

Gears of War 2 was AWESOME, and the FFXIII announcement is all the good that was there for MS. All the other stuff is multiplatform or rip-offs.

Not to mention the developers that were saying how superior the PS3 is.

I would of loved to see the faces of people when that happened.:lol

Overall it was a nice showing. sure the lack of RPG is saddening but they did sort of had some games while mostly ended up being shooter field. The quality PSN games were nice but yeah. overall it was good.

So umm. Playstation Event later this month? :lol

Three things I learned at E3 this year...

1. Never say never (MS pockets run deep and defy the seemingly impossible)
2. Nintendo doesn't care.
3. Sony is.... I really don't know anymore.

Putting conferences in order is already a mess of fanboyism and subjectivity, but now letters ? Seriously ? I'll tell you what : Rate them randomly on a 0 to 10 scale, with 0.1 accuracy. It will be as dumb but at least you'll look like a professional journalist.
Good post, but you don't bring any new ideas to the table. I give it a C.

They did great disservice to Resistance 2 by showing that boring ass boss fight. What the hell were they thinking?

:lol @ people that keep mentioning live demos. You do know E3 isn't over right? I'm sure all the gaming sites will have impressions/ gameplay footage and maybe even some exclusives. Why is everyone acting as if the media is packing up and taking off? :lol @ live demos of multiplat games securing conference wins. Fuck the winner! They all better step it up!

He emphasized the "same features as the 40GB unit" so no, I doubt this new SKU will have BC. Which is one of the worst decisions Sony could be making right now.

I hope BC is still important to Sony, I truly do.

Not sure if this has been brought up yet or if it was a mistake, but when Jack was talking/showing releases for this year, they had RE5 in the montage. Yesterday at MS conference, RE was dated for 2009. Is RE5 coming to the PS early or was it a mistake?

To me, this conference just highlights the completely backwards nature of Sony's approach to the playstation 3. Where was wipeout HD? Wasn't THAT SUPPOSED TO BE OUT ALREADY? We're WAITING for any information about it. How are we supposed to get excited about PS3's first party when we can never trust them on release dates because the games are always getting delayed?

We constantly have to WAIT WAIT WAIT on the games, but guess what, Sony made sure to get out its video download service way ahead of time. The gaming seems to be sacrificed for multimedia functionality. And seriously, where are the japanese games? Oh yeah, we have to WAIT until TGS. When is Home coming out? We have to WAIT until sometime this summer, and once it doesn't come out during summer, we'll be asked to WAIT until first quarter of the next year.

PS3 has plenty of RPG's. PS3 still has FFXIII, Versus XIII, the remaining SE HD RPG's (Except for IU). It has Valkyria Chronicles, WKC, and Eternal Sonata coming up.

No need for people to act as if there are none.

I put more value on the demo when they feel they have enough content (and the software is stable enough) to be shown live. Demoing on-stage means I'm going to be playing the game 'soon' which is important unless you like waiting for games.

Well that was a pretty meh E3. If we didn't see most of the PS3 stuff on Spike before it'd be different, but eh.

Sony lacked shooters on the PS2 and now that's the highlight of the PS3 D: (yes there are still other games).

Haven't they learned yet that we don't care about CGI previews?

Resistance 2 looked awesome, inFamous looked pretty good, everything else was meh. DC Universe looked incredibly rough, MAG and GOW3 were nothing but CG trailers, and I don't care about PSP or PS2 stuff. The video store was cool and I'll definitely use it but not exciting since I've been using Xbox Live and iTunes for movies for awhile now.

Disappointments? KZ2 and LBP barely shown, Home an afterthought (2009?), not much Motorstorm (unless I missed it cause I had to duck out a few minutes before Resistance 2).

The two games I'm most looking forward to this year on PS3 are Resistance and Motorstorm. Deja Vu. Little Big Planet will be cool but I'm not as excited about it as I once was.

Overall: C
MS: B
Nintendo: F (I'm actually going to sell my recently bought Wii... too much cool 360 and PS3 stuff to play)

I think from a hardcore perspective, clearly Microsoft had a major coup and Sony is more or less treading water, whereas Nintendo was hugely disappointing. However, from a MARKET perspective Nintendo probably best appealed to their fan base and did nothing to indicate their position at the top of the market is threatened. I think Sony and Microsoft, rather than wowing us with huge new blockbuster games (MS's announcement, as awesome as it is, is of a game already in development for a long time that we knew about) they're trying to change the market into some sort of even more multi-media and LESS game centric device. Yes Nintendo is appealing to casuals, but Sony and Microsoft aren't even as interested in GAMING at all anymore, it's the same shit, just wrapped in a different package.

Good god people do people not understand that after every show of Sony's 08 lineup they were told TO GO PLAY THE GAME

Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty confirmed. Trailer showing. Shorter game at lower price but looks just like Future. "Like a big summer blockbuster film."
Quest for Booty will be on PSN this summer for $14.99. Jack says they'll be doing more games like this soon.
I'll probably get this just to support the idea. I want a lot of 15 dollar short but high budget games.
Movie-downloading service publicly unveiled. Sony Picture, Fox, MGM, Lion's Gate, Warner, Disney, Paramount, Turner, and Funimation will all have programming available when this service launches. Rental and electronic selling, standard and hi-def content. $9.99 to $14.99 to purchase a movie, $2.99 to $5.99 to rent. TV episodes starting at $1.99.
If the quality is good this could be awesome.

New video service available starting tonight on the PS3!
OMG WTF

How soon is PSN updating with todays goodies? I want to grab a lot there instead of on the pc.

About that Google partnership... Jack said that there will be a "PS3" section on YouTube?

PS3 has plenty of RPG's. PS3 still has FFXIII, Versus XIII, the remaining SE HD RPG's (Except for IU). It has Valkyria Chronicles, WKC, and Eternal Sonata coming up.

No need for people to act as if there are none.

Eternal Sonata, which has been out on 360 for a year.

And you said "except for IU". Should have been "except for IU and Star Ocean".

What's with all these "copy cat" and "rip off" insults directed towards Microsoft? :lol It's the 80's all over again.
