Harmonix / Hasbro announce DROPMIX

The system looks cool but I don't like pop music, so I don't want this.

Would be cool if you could make a deck of your favorite genre.

That was my first thought. Not very good rock representation with an overused Disturb song, a Poison ballad, and some pop rock. Same reason I'm rarely interested in the Rock Band DLC anymore.

I'm in. I dig boardgames with weird/interesting concepts. And $99 retail for a board game isn't that steep these days. Wherein some you're paying for the amount of cardboard in the box, here you're mostly paying for the digital aspects despite the app being free.

Harmonix clinging onto life with this.

I hope it ends up being successful for them.

I get why people are worried, but, it's goddamn Hasbro. If there's one thing they're very good at, it's making toys and games and selling a lot of those toys and games.

signing with Hasbro, one of the biggest non-video-game publishers out there, is clinging to life?

edit: amusingly, Harmonix has now directly worked with 2 of the top 3 toy makers, the first partnership being Lego with Lego Rock Band. heh.

Clinging onto life isn't a negative here. They had a couple of failure and managed to get themselves back on their feet with this deal. Ain't nothing wrong with it.

A string of less than successful products and the doubling down on the hardware/gaming +CCG. It's not going to work this time. Rock Band 4 is in trouble, almost sunk Madcatz and did not hit it's targets with PDP causing staff layoffs.

PDP is going through trouble too?

Fuck.

I wonder why this game is having trouble...oh right.

so this seems like something interesting to play with from a tech standpoint.

but $100 base for it is a bit much.
this isn't a game I would want on my tablet (pain to hook up to my sound system), would much rather have it on a console or pc but it seems to be mobile only.
the gameplay doesn't look very interesting, and I haven't a clue how you are going to easily keep track of the decks if you are able to buy new cards and what not. you would have to be careful to play things a certain way to make sure you get them back.

I am also not a huge fan of most of the soundtrack, but to be fair since pop songs tend to be so samey it's a very obvious choice for a game like this to keep things sounding decent.

This is pretty cool, I'd kill for a full digital version with online play

For now I'll see if I have buds that want to chip in

Each card has a symbol on the bottom right I believe (I think it's the bottom right) so it should be easy to keep track of which card belongs to which deck really.

I would love to win this and all of the cards for free....or somehow borrow/demo it for a weekend.

I will not be spending $99+ on this.

EDIT: I miiiight spend $49 on this just to mess around with the music.

I understand it probably helps immensely from a marketing standpoint, but if this was $40 with unlicensed samples and beats instead I'd be more interested in it.

Here's the list of songs in the starter kit available at launch(?). They're planning to have 300 songs at launch.

Starts at 2:15 now that they trimmed the empty space at the beginning.

This looks amazing. Did you guys not see the Down With The Sickness wildcard in action?! If you're not impressed just watching the demonstration from 2;15 to 5:30, I don't know what to tell you. Granted $99 is a steep price but this would be amazing fun at a party and I don't even give a **** about the music selection.

Here is the most current updated list of official cards with power levels and song parts.

I've been following this game since march and really got hooked watched the harmonix weekly streams with josh and Jonathan. The price of entry is quite high, but the game as a whole looks like a lot of fun and I have hooked several friends just by having them watch a recorded twitch stream.

Hope this game catches on as I would love to see more modes.

Here is also a Spotify playlist of announced songs I made if you want to get a quick idea of what music you will be mixing.

This thread is really old and full of clueless people and bad jokes. This probably deserves a new thread. Impressions and non-Harmonix videos are starting to come out, and the release date was announced today, so this might be a good time. Hell, I might even make the new thread I'm not able to create a new thread since I'm a junior member.

EDIT:
I'd appreciate if someone made a new thread and maybe included this stuff:

Nickelback cards are OP, please nerf.

Seriously, shame the Kinnect is a dead thing now, you could have tried to do some kind of "Eye of Judgement" thing here were you could use the cards with the camera. Could have been a neat twist to the game.

The game sounds cool though. I would play it again 10/10 steam review.
