Forbes: Epic is not working on a new title in the Unreal series plus other news

Interview here: http://www.forbes.com/sites/johngau...mes-president-mike-capps-looks-to-the-future/

Unreal is the game that put Epic on the map. It’s gone through multiple game publishers over the years. What role does that franchise play with Epic today, in light of the success Gears has had?

Unreal and Unreal Tournament continue to have a huge influence on the studio here, even though we’re not currently working on an Unreal IP project. Epic’s core game making philosophy of “when everyone says it’s done, keep polishing!” came from our experiences with Unreal Tournament. That’s the beginning of our quality-focused studio DNA.

So I wonder what are the 5 titles that Epic have said that they are working on?

1. Gears of War 3 (?)
2. Demon's Score
3. PC F2P title (?)
4. iOS title (?)
5. PC/PS3/360/WiiU title (?)

Not a loss. Keep working on new things and trying out new IPs if you don't have anything meaningful to add to your existing franchises.

So I wonder what the 5 titles in development are that Epic said they were working on during GDC?

Jill of the Jungle Xtreme
Epic Pinball Cyborgirl HD
Full Metal Jackrabbit
One Must Fall: 2048 - Origins
Solar, Winder, Harder

Original Unreal Tournament is still my fave.
Dr. Strangelove MOD Capture the Flag is awesome.

I should go install that...

No more Unreal Tournament I take that to mean. That's a shame even though 3 wasn't very good.

I hate situations like this because a lack of demand for a bad game in a series somehow sends the message that people simply don't want said series.

Epic made critical mistakes in taking a console first, PC second approach in a market where the console crowd frankly doesn't care (not that the type of FPS UT is particularly lends itself well to consoles) and the PC crowd doesn't want to deal with a game designed around console tastes when they already have a plethora of other games to play that are designed with the PC in mind.

I know this has been said a million times before but how is something not happening news?
"Apple not releasing an iPhone 5" -- I think it's safe to say that would be huge news of something not happening.

Series that is a relic of it's time is not being continued. Series in deep need of a break and refresh is not continued for the moment. Series that is not selling is put on hold temporarily.

What? Are you SURPRISED?

Even if Unreal doesn't continue in name, it will certainly carry on in character design among other things. You guys get worked up way too easily, it's not that big of a deal

looking at the disparity between the last Unreal game and the Gears series, I can safely "who cares." Give unreal a break if you're just gonna churn out mediocre arena shooters. It's like they made the last one out of obligation...you can tell where their heart is nowadays.

Unreal Tournament has never been my thing but I want a sequel to Unreal 2. You can't have Unreal Engine 3 dominate for an entire generation and then never release an actual Unreal 3 for it :(

I just ran to a friend at work. "NEW UNREAL TOURNAMENT!!!!!"

Came back to read the forum that loaded. "Epic is NOT working on a new title...."

I just had to tell him I accidentally trolled him. We've been trying to get back into arena shooters, mainly UT, but hardly anyone plays. Gaffers, can we all band together to get a server up for UT2K4 or UT3? Preferably, UT2K4!

a shame.

a Team Fortress 2 style update to UT could have been good.

add character customization and micro transaction the hell out of it!

Yeah, shame on them for innovating in other genres instead of making the same shooter forever!

Does Shadow Complex 2 count as one of the five? 'Cause they said they are pretty much done with it and looking for a publisher.

Honestly who wants to play unreal today?

Same with duke nukem, quake, doom, wolfenstein.

No, it shouldn't be counted because no work has gone into it besides designing it. They are looking for someone to actually develop the title.

Speaking to Gamasutra, Epic Games design director Cliff Bleszinski said the sequel to Chair's 2009 downloadable Xbox Live Arcade hit Shadow Complex is "largely designed," and Epic and Chair are looking for a partner to help finish it up.
