Tell me GAF-Hop, I don't normally listen to much rap music past Kanye and really liked WTT and Drake's album this year. I bought The Roots' album the other day and quite like it after only a couple of listens, where else should I go from these lists?

i mean, you'll probably get like 50 really good albums/mixtapes just off the nominations in this thread just because everybody's tastes are so different.

Err. You meant to say Lil Lody right? I don't think Shawty Redd did any tracks on it. Looking at the CD booklet right now.

Yeah, it's gonna make my top ten. Just Like That did cement Drumma Boy as my producer of the year. It's the most important track on TM103. What a way to start the album. It just sets the tone, and caps off an incredible year for Drumma.

Shit! I swore that Shawty Redd was handling the beats for TM103

Blackace

Yeah, it's mostly Lil Lody. There's a couple JUSTICE LEAGUE and Drumma beats, even a Warren G beat.

yeah saw that! I just remember reading when he was dropping Jizzle and what not that Shawty Redd was doing the bulk of the work.. he must have changed directions when he pushed it back

Great Album.. and Drummaboy still is the best of the year for me..

Only Kendrick Lamar from this list is something someone with those tastes would like. Maybe Thurz. J. Cole and KRIT and Cunninlynguists are good reccomendations but the other three up here I don't think are easy recommendations aside from being popular and coveted.

The Blu/Exile album is actually from 2009.
What does it matter if it was released this year?

This week even. :lol I respect the Blu stannery though for someone to give something a firm AOTY accolade a few days after release though.

In classic Blu fashion, though, at the bottom of the bandcamp page "unmixed/unmastered"

lmao. Oh well, shit is great.

I respect the Blu stannery though.
I guess I can't dispute that too much. Always been a big fan of his for some reason. Wish he had gotten some label backing for this and had it released instead of No York (wasn't bad, but I'm liking this more).

Kendrick Lamar's Section 80 and Cunnynlinguists' Oneirology are my suggestions (and along with Undun, my top 3 of the year).

I'll post a final list later, still need to listen to the new Common a few albums I missed.

Fans of the Roots who like jazzy live instrument stuff should also check out Artofficial. Vitamins and Minerals sounds like some mid 90's Roots stuff. Minus Black Thought tearing it up but still.

Y'all know I love the mainstream. I'm putting together the list right now but I want to post descriptions of why I chose the albums. Also I'm still thinking about order and all that. Yeah I'm probably putting more effort into this than most, when it will be criticized to shit seconds after I post it :lol
