Race Your PC Thread2 of Voiding Warranties

Fuck vet bills. My mom borrowed $5k from me to save her 28 year old horse's life, he ended up dying a couple of years later. That was 6-7 years ago. Still waiting for that $5k. Should get it back in a couple of months.
Well, it was for an investment horse, so there's some legitimacy to it outside of emotional attachment. She's only 2 right now. Her babies will hopefully turn into video card money.

As far as stepping up to Sk3tch, this thread for racing your PC is a constant thing. He wen't for the top too early. Dual 690 hydro coppers? :p

For some reason I am anxiously awaiting your results :p oh lawd thank da russians

i feel someone must step up to challenge sk3tch...stepping up means going ALL THE WAY IN with him though lol

On a good OC of 850/2100, not max, my SLI 570's are hitting 10.7k in 3dmark11.

I am still thinking about grabbing the 680.

I posted this in the Kepler thread..but will post it here.

I am selling 2 GTX580 EVGA Classified 3gb GPU's. Both Cards have the Backplate and High Flow Bracket and are covered by EVGA's Lifetime Warranty. I orginally priced them higher, but I need to sell them to cover the cost of my 680's. So, with that in mind..for any Gaf members, I plan to sell them at $350.00 each. I currently have them on Ebay for a starting bid of $375 with a buy it now of $425.00, but if a Gaf member wants them, please PM and I will sell them to you for $350.00 plus whatever shipping cost.

God damn, I'd be so on that if the shipping to Australia wouldn't be the same cost as that of the cards!

4th EVGA GTX 680 snagged today...J&R Computer World for $529.99 shipped. :-/ Bought an "official" EVGA 4-way SLI bridge from them direct.

Broke down and bought the Limited Edition package of the MSI Big Bang XPower II X79 board. Nets me a 2nd 7970 (albeit at a high price) so I can do CFX on my i5 2500k box...which led me down some other paths. Going to create a site dedicated to these hardware shenanigans. May just be a blog but we'll see. Just another outlet for the hobby! Send me a PM if any of you guys are interested in doing a write-up or article or something. Still at the planning stages.

So I'll be slanging an ASUS P9X79 Pro (board-only) and 32GB of matching DDR3 Corsair RAM if anyone is interested...$375 shipped.

I'm interested in having my build on your blog owning your score if and when IB comes out. =P

I'm all for it, man. It's not about being #1 for me, necessarily. I just love this stuff. To be honest, I will probably only own these cards for a couple months. I just upgrade as the newest, hottest shit comes out - it's the best way to get the best ROI in this hobby...typically ~80%.

Past gens, I had dicked around with being mid-high end (6950s, GTX 260s, etc.) - I finally realized that when a flagship card launches you have one year (typically) until it is replaced. You are actually better off going hard with the best card right away versus dicking around with 2nd or 3rd best since that card retains it's value the best. Anyway, just my opinion on it. Will probably be very different with the current war and GK110 later this year...that's why I'll probably just do 680 2GB x4 and then upgrade when GK110 drops versus wasting time on 4GB models. I just wanna play BF3 at 5760x1080 super smooothly...according to HardOCP RAM is not a factor with the 680 in that game.

For sure, man. Anything is good. I've already got my bro lined up to do some competitive gaming hardware pieces...more aimed at the console crowd. I'll pick up where he doesn't have experiences (PC side) but in general they're pretty similar except at the high, high end (i.e. 120 fps/120Hz). I'm serious about this site thing. A friend and I are investing in it so it won't be an amateur thing. I've got a pretty good niche carved out for this site that I think will work well.

That's awesome to hear. So you'd sell the card <6mo and make 80% back? That's pretty damn handy. Especially considering that you'd have reference cards each time which tend to hold their value even better.

:-D

That is volt maxed, at least from the EVGA PrecisionX tool. Haven't looked into how you can unlock. I heard the 680 scales back GPU clocks past 70C, anyway...my max temps are now in the upper 70's since I put a more aggressive fan profile in there.

Sk3tch's CPU is better, there's no way I can catch up. We got the exact same score for graphics test #4 and almost the same for #2, though.

Hmm, my graphics score is waaaaaay ahead of #2 and close to #1, but my CPU is holding me back.

Great scores man. I just built my rig, which has 2x680's, 3930k and the same Rampage Mobo that you have. Still doing testing right now. I have the CPU running though prime95 right now at 4.7mhz, memory is at 1600, but I could raise that since it is made to go higher.

Quick question, when you first turn on your computer, does your mobo flash the Rampage Mobo screen 2 times or so before it loads in windows? I am not sure if this is normal or not. Thanks for any input.

Understood. I ran the Heaven benchmark and scored a few FPS higher than several 680 reviews that I read, so I guess I'm in good shape. I also jumped on BF3 for a little while. The 680 + a 120Hz monitor makes BF3 a whole new experience.

Actually I think I got the worst 680 available now--the gigabyte one. It comes with absolutely nothing, except for a driver DVD which cannot even been read in my DVD drive. Their overclock software hasn't been updated to support this card either so I used the EVGA one. I think you will safely go over P18000.

And you are absolutely right on the boot up part. I think it's just doing too much self-checking so what I'm trying to do now is to disable some features I'm not using in the BIOS, see if it helps.

I heard SSD gave you quick start up, but now with this motherboard and a PCIE SSD, it takes longer then ever, lol

I'm voltage limited, which is annoying... GPUs don't go over 33C under load, but I can't OC much higher without getting a display driver crash. It's frustrating to have that much headroom, and nothing I can do about it. I'm beating sk3tch handily on all the GPU tests, though, so once I can stabilize a 4.8 ghz OC on my CPU, I might be able to take his score. I was really hoping to get much higher clock speeds on these GPUs, though. Oh well. :(

On another note, when I was redoing my loop yesterday, I had about 6 different leaks, which was fun to deal with. I finally got my Koolance Quick Disconnects, and my second Danger Den Rad-res in, though. Just gotta tidy up some cable management and I'll be all ready to put my side panels on.

That's probably the non intel SATA 3 chip starting. go in the bios and disable it assuming you have nothing plugged into the non intel ports, should be something like 'Marvell SATA controller'

That's what was causing my PC to show the ASUS logo twice anyway.

My physics score is actually worse. At 4.4 it was 10144. At 4.6 it is 9649.

4.4ghz combined score = 9067
4.6ghz combined score = 8673

OP GPU 580 SLI @ 936mhz = 14290
Current @ 932mhz = 14541

The fuck is going on here? You can see there is an inverse relationship between the CPU score AND the GPU score o_o

OP score = 12771

Find an OC guide for your motherboard. Your CPU may be throttling down due to heat or lack of power. If you have an ASUS - load the gamer profile and then edit that one. It sets a lot of great parameters for OCing. Then manually set your vcore and multiplier.

I've been using the following from overclock.net:

AI Overclock Tuner - Manual
BCLK/PEG frequency - 100 (Never Change this)
Turbo Ratio - By All Cores
EPU Power Saving Mode - Disable
VRM Frequency - Manual and 350
CPU Current Capability - 140%
CPU PLL Overvoltage - Disabled
Load-Line Calibration - Ultra High
Phase Control/Duty Control - Extreme

Now for the Voltages

CPU Voltage - Set to 1.20v which is stock CPU voltage for now
DRAM Voltage - 1.65v/1.50v etc as per your memory module label
VCCSA - Auto
VCCIO - Auto (You only need to manually set this if overclocking your memory; in which case dont go over 1.15v)
CPU PLL Voltage - Auto
PCH Voltage - Auto
CPU Spread Spectrum - Enabled
CPU configurations

CPU Ratio - Auto
Intel Adaptive Thermal Monitor - Enabled
Active Processor Cores - All
Limit CPUID Maximum - Disabled
Execute Disable Bit - Enabled
Intel Virtualization Technology - AFAIK This is only necessary for F@H on a 2500k
Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology - Enabled
Turbo Mode - Enabled
CPU C1E - Enabled/Auto
CPU C3 Report - Auto
CPU C6 Report - Auto

Also bumped up my voltage to 1.3 for 4.6

Ran test again and got a 12,795 score. Compared to the 12,721 in the OP. Still got a physics score of 9833. Still some 200 points less.

Clocked slightly higher:

P18417 - 3x Powercolor 7970 (1075/1475/stock) i7-3820 @4.4ghz - 16GB @2133 - Asus P9X79 - Dr. Light -Air Link

I haven't pushed this system to the limit (don't like playing with voltages, etc.) I get very nervous about overclocking. I know I can squeeze a bit more out of the both the GPUs and CPU if I increase the voltage, but..what for?

P18234 2x Gigabyte GTX680(1151/1742/1.175) i7-3930k@4.7G 16GB@2133 ASUS Rampage IV Formula - Ftsh - Phanteks PH-TC14PE/Air Link

Jesus, the CPU score is killing me....

It might have been a better investment to spend twice as much on a CPU rather than a third GPU. Even at 1440p, there's just too much bottleneck in anything other than a straight graphics benchmark. Most games aren't going to be CPU constrained, but most aren't going to benefit from an orgy to GPU power either - one 7970 is enough to run the average game at 1440p/8xAA/60fps (like AC:B, Skyrim, Sonic Generations, etc., all of which I have to disable Crossfire for because they don't support it and it actually lowers the framerate).

Hopefully we'll have more games with Witcher 2-style ubersampling to put these cards to use (really wish I had Witcher 2 right now).

BTW... I'm #2 on the LuxMark leaderboards (#4 on the Medium and Complex benchmarks, some guy with EIGHT 580s is at the top). I defy any of the 680 people to post their scores in THAT benchmark...
