Fallout 3 and New Vegas mod discussion

FNV has ton of quest imo. Especially with DLC to see everything (just quests) you need at least 30-40 hours.

Sure they're there, but not terribly well signposted. For example, on my most recent playthrough I followed the trail to novac, did the rocket factory quest, then onto boulder city, just the one quest there with the holed-up great khans then onwards to the strip where I hit the brick wall with not having the 2000 cap entry fee. At that point I had zero quests in my log apart from the dlc ones and had to roam about til I found some quests from the crimson caravan woman. I think term I'm looking for is breadcrumb quests. More stuff that leads you to where the quests are. I really hate the feeling of exploring an area not knowing if there's supposed to be some quest that sends me there.

I heard Fallout NV is not very well optimised as it could be. How does it run compared to Skyrim? I have a 5850 1GB, quad core 3.2Ghz, 4gb ram.

I'm playing on hardcore mode right now, which I think adds enough to make things more interesting but the one thing I fear is dying companions. I feel like that is going to become very irritating. If I had the ability, that is one aspect of HC mode that I would disable. I really don't want the game to feel like an escort mission once I start using companions. Oddly enough, New Vegas is the only one of these kind of games (Fallout 3+, Elder Scrolls) that I actually choose to have companions. In the other games, I never felt that they were worth the hassle.

Edit: Oops. I meant to put this in the OT.

Regarding DarnUI, is it possible to make the left side of the compass to fade away like its right side? I want to center it like in Skyrim but it looks weird when one side is cut off. I've looked in the XML files but couldn't tell if there was something that I could do to fix it.

On a related note, can I remove the red indicator from the crosshair? I don't want it to show me whether I'm aiming at a friend or foe.

I'm also using One HUD and Unified HUD Project, if that helps.

There's definitely a need for companions in HC mode (especially with JSawyer mod), because you can't carry enough items (to sell).

I want to afford upgrades early and those cost a lot, so I need a pack mule.

I'm going to reinstall Fallout 3 with all but Mothership Zeta addons (non-GOTY MZ has animation idling bug, will install it if it can be fixed easily) and i'm going to need some mods (in addition to unofficial patches). Not many, the base game is pretty good as it is.
What i need are economy, balance/equipment stat, skill/perk adjustments. So, mostly tweaks. Not going to say no to content additions if they're good and fit Fallout (so no animeish armors or such).
No graphics mods (other than possibly some face and body mods), i reckon i can play the game with high graphics without issues but that's enough for me, better be sure to get good framerate.
Any recommendations? I will go through various modlists etc. but recommendations can save time, not to mention that i may miss many good things otherwise.

ENB dev added shadows to fallouts. They're not perfect but they add yet another of realism. I'm not posting any shots as the result is somehow a contrast mess. Would need to tweak.

Just started adding ENB to New Vegas. Everything works great outside, but when I try to enter a new area it crashes right to desktop. I can see the roulette loading wheel, but there is no background and then CtD.

Any thoughts? I'm going to try some different presets when I get home to see if that fixes anything.

Sorry for bringing this up but after having played most of Fallout New Vegas on PS3 I am now starting it on PC. Would like to mod for a better experience but don't really know what my computer is capable of and what to get.
I have a Geforce GTX 460 1gb in my computer which consists of 8 gb ram, Intel Core2Duo e E7500 2.94 ghz processor. And Windows 7 64-bit version.
Are the first posts in this thread still updated and valid?
There are 23 wonderful pages in this thread full of information that just confuses me.

Can somebody please give me some advice or should I go back and finish the game on PS3?

Play on PC, Do you know anything about modding Fallout 3-Skyrim-New Vegas? If not, its going to take some time to figure it out but its well worth it. I probably spent 5-10 hours figuring it all out and another 15-20 just messing with mods. But i also went a little crazy with how many I got. It was actually pretty fun :p

Unless you already know, here is where you start:

Your going to need New Vegas script extender and Fallout4GB (they are both Very easy to install)
http://nvse.silverlock.org/. Just follow the Install.

Fallout 4GB: http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/35262 Just download and you use this to launch FNV from now on.
Once again just read and do as it tells.

I use Fallout Mod manager to install most of my mods, its easy, has a bunch of nice features like archive invalidation and Boss built in. Boss helps put mods in the right order (though not always and thats something you will have to watch out for) Problem with Fallout Mod manager is that it likes to crash after adding mods (the mods still get added and still work it just has a pointless crash) I have seen fixes for it but I was already balls deep in mods and didn't want to take the chance. The rest of Gaf might have some better recommendations.

Here it is:
http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/36901

Just post whatever you need help with. Start with these two Mods:

http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/43135/ NMC Texture pack, go with the small one.

http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/35998/ Nevada Skies

After that, pretty much any mod is a piece of cake.

How playable is that ENB setting? I don't mean performance, just look, as in, it doesn't have depth of field up the ass and whatnot.

I want to bump this with a question that I can't seem to find an answer for. I recently beat F:NV so I was in the mood to boot up and play through F3. I installed Wanny's ENB preset, installed the fix for weapon transparency, started a new game and was greeted by this:

Pretty much everything is transparent. Is this a known problem or anything?

nice. been so long I forgot what it was exactly but instant reaction is of excitement for some reason :p

The thing that amazes me the most about the modding community is how much time they put into new worlds, i.e AWOP, Moonpaths of Elsweyr, RatTrap, Boulder Dome, Arefu, Anchorage. Definitely rivals some of the DLC Bethesda has been putting out.

I'm running an i-5 3.0 ghz
660ti 2 gb vram
6 gb ram

Will I be ok to use the large version of NMC's texture pack? Also should I still be able to maintain 60 fps with it installed?

probably, maybe you'll notice some stuttering depending on your hdd, plus the fact that you don't have that much ram or that beefy a processor.

What's going on with the load order and why is there no option to adjust the actual ordering? Just bought the pc version today and installed a variety of mods(mostly content restoration related). Scared to start with it looking like that though. Fallout mod manager seems to be having issues today so I didn't bother, none of the manager downloads were working on the nexus site either.

Ugh is there a mod for NV that makes the ESC key behave like in every other game?
As in closing the Pip-Boy instead of opening the menu.

Hundred plus hours in the pc version of Fallout and I'm still making the damn mistake in New Vegas. All the grrs!

My request since I solved the ones above in another thread. Is there a recommended mod for armor and clothign textures? NMC doesn't seem to change any of them. Don't want to change the design, just want a higher res version.

I hate myself for saying Project Brazil was going to be released soon since my last post but ... there's been a update last week saying the first part is almost done. Scripting is a week and a half off and Navmesh is almost done. http://www.moddb.com/news/fallout-project-brazil-probably-our-last-update-before-release

Anyhow I picked up this game and was wondering if anyone could recommend some quest mods. I played New Vegas Bounties I/II, Boulder Dome, and Deimos.

It's been awhile since I played, but A World of Pain had some quests associated with it. I also heard good things about Dog City Denver.

A passionate embrace, a beautiful memory lingers.
Wow, interesting that this popped up. I've never played New Vegas before, but decided to pick it up earlier. I've just installed Project Nevada and A World of Pain. I'm thinking about grabbing some upped textures, but I think that's it.

Or is there anything I definitely need for a first-time experience?

I'll check it out. Oh derp. I forgot about AWOP. Finished that too. Right it seems like I have to wait for Project Brazil to get my fix.

And for New Vegas mods, I'd get Project Reality/Nevada Skies, Performance of the Gods, Mission Mojave, Enbs or Cinematech, and the Uncut mods for starting out. If you want to delve deeper for armors and guns, then the New Vegas community has you covered. I'd skip out on the user content like the aforementioned till after you finish the game to not get OP weapons or spoiled. Have fun!

And does anyone have a problem with FONV with enb presets and gun transparency?

The only mod that's made a massive difference for me was the bullet time one. It basically uses up your AP for bullet time instead of using it for vats. I love me some slow motion shooting.
