Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on XBLA March 21. 800 MS Points!

It's me again.

So about that button mapping... It lets me remap them but the changes never take effect. I moved Left Hand to Y and Special to B.

However, no matter what I do, in the game Y will dash and B will be Left Hand.

This game is making me feel like a ****ing idiot.

*EDIT: I just tried remapping the jump button and other random shit and no change shows up in the game. If I switch Left Hand to Y, it reflects that change in the statistics page, but when I start playing B still does the attack.

Reposting, cause i have the same problem.

Why is nobody speaking about this? Does nobody else have the same Problem? Borked Button Remaping would be a rather huge Bug.

Just a quick question on getting the "Kill Drac taking no hits" thing, the Holy Water, is it the blue bottle that you throw on the ground that burns with a kind of blue fire? I tried using this on him and it didn't seem to do much of anything...

To kill him super fast with 31-32 hearts:
First form, use Hydro Storm and hit his head 1-2 times with the whip
when he transforms, do another Hydro Storm, and use your remaining hearts to throw holy waters on the ground, and whip him as well.

You should be able to do this pattern without being hit once, and if you're quick about getting to Dracula's room, he can be beaten in like 37 seconds.

It's really wierd playing this again after 8 or 9 years. In some ways it's all too familiar, like with the graphics and music but in others it feels like a brand new game because I've completely forgotten where to go or how to go about it. Still a hell of a lot of fun though.

XBLA needs more games like this.

Must be. Like the top 5-10 are under a minute or so. Crazy

I just beat Cerberus...ranked #34 (1:26:53 time)

There was a guy last night who had the same exact time for defeating Death and meeting Maria, so... can the boards be hacked?

Man, I played this so much on wednesday my body clock went out of sync and I kind fo slept through thursday :lol

It's a great game though, a shame I missed this back on the ps1.

How the **** are people meeting Maria in 30 seconds?
Has anything been confirmed about starting a 2nd run with your 1st run items? If so I can imagne there jumping up holes you can't normally at the start.

The closest you can get to a new game+ mode is doing the luck mode code, then skipping Death so you retain your initial equipment. But you don't retain any of your relics, so skipping like that is not possible afaik.

They are ways to skip areas and skip entire sequences, but to get to Maria in one minute legit? I'd have to see that to believe it.

It's possible that "meeting Maria" is simply just "getting to the clockroom". Hence you could use Richter to get there.

Yes I have the exact same problem. I tried remapping the buttons and they never changed. Its obviously a bug in the game. Is Microsoft/Konami aware of the problem. Isnt there Microsoft people on Gaf. Hey MS your game is slightly broken can you fix it please!

In 30 seconds?

Anyways, my guess is you know that trick you can do to avoid Death and keep your equipment? Maybe that stops the clock?

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.
Earlier the game froze my 360. I was grinding the Discus Lord trying to get a Chakram or two(no dice, got a ton of Jewel Swords though...) and after awhile upon killing him he just disappears..no death animation or anything.

So I leave the area, come back, and he doesn't respawn. So ignoring that I move further, killing those hunchback dudes even though their death animation stops right when they catch on fire(so they're just standing there..on fire). Tried to get the Spikebreaker armor but lol echo doesn't work.

Upon attempting to save the game just froze..had to turn the system off ugh.
Frustrating but eh..I think I'll hunt the phat loot on my luck run instead.

I had a similar case. My internet went down so my xbox live profile went down. Well I tried to log back in (still in the game) and it kicked me back to the main menu for the game after it failed to log in.

But you can't do that until you beat the game... right?

This game does not place save points very well. I just spent an hour trying to get from one to the next - never found the next. Beat three big boss-type creatures, found Maria, leveled up four times and found an orb. No save point. Died. Not feeling too motivated to try again. :\

Thats exactly what I was affraid of doing. I know that must suck.

Uhmm, there's like 5 save points between all of what you just described

You know that spinning 3d pentagram room is the save point, right?

At one point I ran to the right side of the castle without hitting a save, thats because I didn't search everywhere and made a few mistakes. I died so when I did it again I took another route and found like 2 that I missed :lol

what i've been doing is going back to an old save point if i have to. but usually end up finding a save point right around the point i decided to go back.

i also found a teleport room, it has a big keyhole in it, you push up, that transports you way back to the start and there's a save nearby there, so you can use that too

Ghaleon, Ghaleon, Ghaleon. I really don't know why you're having so much trouble with this game. There's plenty of save points all over the castle, you just need to find them. If you beat 3 bosses without saving then you passed probably twice that many save points.

The DS CVs are better in gameplay, yeah, but the music makes a ****ing big difference to me. And of course this was basically my first CV (played others a tiny bit before, but this opened my eyes), and you always feel strongly about your first entry into a franchise.

Same here. SotN (on the PS1) was my first time playing through a Castlevania, and afterwards, I became a fan (and subsequently played the GBA games). And the music MUST be mentioned, as it added to the atmosphere and experience in a huge way.

I played it for another hour and this time I unlocked the 3 transforms achievement and got a ton of good things in a short gaming span, it's like once I got double jump everything was thrown at me :D

So that means im about over 3 hours in and still exploring tons of the castle, it's great.

Yea. I am amazed that people are having this much trouble.

And...it needs to be asked again. How the hell are people making it to Maria in 30 seconds?

"What's money for?"
"What does leveling up do?"
"Why can't I save more?"

I'm sorry, Ghaleon, seriously, but I'm cracking up here. :lol

Somebody get this man an Alucard Shield and a Shield Rod, pronto.

It has to be a glitch. And can't you get like 400% in the PSX versions by going way outside the castle walls?

SOTN is the easiest Castlevania created. You create your own challenges in that game by beating bosses with specific weapons, going on speed runs, richter, etc.

Yea. I do think that you can get 400%. I'm not 100% sure though. lolz

I just watched part of both speedruns for this game. It has to be a glitch.

Well, in Ghaleon's defense, there isn't any documentation and the instructions in the game menu is a joke so I could see how someone that's never played it be a little confused with some of the mechanics. The gameplay is pretty easy though....even with those pesky skeletons. :p
