Good news for Vita: Kotaku & Destructoid impressed by titles at the booth

Has many games, but no games stand out is the problem. Most of them are ports that people won't be wow over to get the system.

The problem is that if sony doesn't show them at the conference all the people that don't read gaming sites(basically all the not-hardcore gamers) would think that vita had no games at e3.
Damn scea! Would have been so problematic to make a sizzle reel with all the coming games?

Indies are nice, but AAA exclusives are better. It's a pity that Sony isn't investing more resources into content creation for Vita.

would be nice but their needs to be more systems sold at this point for sony to invest in AAA exclusives. would be a bad business decision otherwise.

So I've had a Vita since launch, but why should I get excited about ports of games I've already played on PC or elsewhere? It's great that indies are embracing the platform, but I couldn't care less about Limbo years later. I want new games (and I've enjoyed the new ones that have come thus far!). Old ports don't seem to do much to reinvigorate a platform, but they are helping it carve out a niche.

This sentence is honestly hilarious: "Some of the most fun I've had at E3 has been playing ports of beloved independent games on PlayStation Vita, a system I do not own but will end up getting sooner than later if this keeps up."

Seriously? Why not play all those great games where they launch and save yourself the money? I'M DROWNING IN ALL THESE LATE PORTS, BETTER SPEND $250+!

I don't play games on my PC. All these games are new to me.

I understand why some people don't get it but I'm thrilled to be playing hotline miami on my vita and ps3

That's your loss, then, and I'm sorry to hear that. There are certainly games that benefit from being made portable (too) but a PC version is almost always a definitive version. My preference is to always play the best version of a game whenever I can. Of course, more power to people experiencing these games for the first time, but I find it hard to believe most Vita owners don't have a secondary place to play a lot of these games (and haven't already years earlier).

Good for those who want to play indie games.

But I can already do that on PC.

I want cheaper memory cards and more game announcements (I love what they have already though, a lot of good Japanese developed games).

my tearaway impressions might be better here than the vita doomed thread (it was the only somewhat relevant thing i could find at the time

i only played one vita game this e3, but it might have been my favorite game of the show.

a lot of times developers try to make something charming or cute, and it comes off as forced (see disney infinity). tearaway is genuine. there's a lot of effort in the game's design to make you really feel part of the world in more ways than one.

you, the player, are the god of the world in tearaway, and the main character's quest is to deliver the god the letter. it's a 3d platformer, and at first you can only make the character jump by tapping the back of the vita. it's a simple thing used to great effect, even when it's just teaching you how to play the game- which it does through actual level design and not forced tutorials. this is also before the game allows you to make the character jump using the buttons, so it familiarizes the player with the idea of manhandling the vita early on.

i think one of the really nice touches was at one point, the character looks up to see the sun, and in the middle, the vita uses the front camera to show your face. i don't know why. maybe it was just an honest, nice little touch, but i that it brought the story together at the start so easily. aw, the messenger wants to deliver you a letter! so you will help him on his quest. i really want to see what's inside.

there are other elements at play here too. the game asks whether you're male or female, what your eye and hair color is, what matches your skin tone best, and if you're a kid or not. so when the fingers break through the screen, they represent your own as much as possible.

platformers are my favorite genre. it's hard to surprise me anymore when it comes to new games in the genre. however, whenever something does, it usually becomes one of my favorites. i wasn't considering a vita for this game alone- there were others that i was interested in, but tearaway might push me over the edge. it looks really special.

thinking more on it, it was my favorite game of the show. sonic: lost world is great, but this hits all the right notes with me.

This is a good sign that Sony does actually know what they're doing with the Vita. AAA exclusives are fun to have and market but in the end it's all about the library.

By engaging indie developers in PS Vita, and with the fact that Vita versions of many indie titles are becoming the best selling versions, Sony has effectively brought a completely new source for unique content to the Vita and it will start to pay off in dividends when people become aware of just how many great indie titles are playable on the platform - and many of them are cross-buy with the PS3 versions.

They were far too focused on the "console experience" when that's not the only thing people want on a handheld.

Oh dang, didn't know about a new Ys. Vita is looking nicer and nicer, especially since I already have a bunch of Vita games from PS+ just sitting there if I ever get one.

I just wish they'd slipped a sizzle reel into the conference so people didn't have to accidentally stumble across these games and face the shock realisation that the platform is pretty damned cool.

After such a bad E3, I think it's time to sell my Portstation Vita.
Indeed, you should. The wealth of original content you desire is not going to happen for the foreseeable future. There will be a lot of ports though. If that bothers you, bail out and save yourself a headache.

Indie is the way to go, especially if you are marketing the Vita as a companion to a console. The advantages are obvious -- more games, quicker releases, cheaper games, less console overlap, more conducive to bite-size gaming. The Vita's price is still too high, though. After buying a suitable memory card, the total cost is $300 to $350. I'd rather put that money towards a PS4 / Xbox and play phone games.

Cannot wait to play most of these games.

I thought that indies were the ones bringing salvation to the gaming industry with innovation and good ideas. Why these shouldn't be highlights for the vita?

Tearaway is the only thing in it's horizon though that's not a port from somewhere or a DD only title. That's the major problem.

As I said earlier I am not buying another memory card for those prices when I am not even seeing fresh support for the system. I was looking forward to SS but that demo really put me off on it.

A lot of Vitabros are very excited for this influx of Indies on the Vita (Some people excluded) but we are afraid that a bunch of really good indie ports won't actually save the system.

So it's not that we're disappointed in the games being offered, we just think that they need to offer something more substantive in order to spark sales.

That's how I see it anyway.

Thanks for the impressions, sounds great.

The hardware is worth the cost. It's gorgeous.

indeed it is but that doesn't change the fact that it's still priced outside the reaches of most of it's target audience. Sony had to eat 200 dollar loss on PS3 for the same reason, and the loss if any won't be nearly as massive. That plus the pure profit off mem. cards and they should be fine, there's a metric fuck ton of Vita games coming and a well placed price cut would do wonders.

199 Wifi

250 3G

plus a 20% slash in memory cards would do the trick

there's a lot of life left this sexy beast of handheld and it still hasn't shown all it's got. No Redesign and there is still that mystery port that's currently being used for nothing. All we have now is waiting....so we'll wait

Nobody cares about the show floor, Sony should have communicated their confidence in the Vita through the press conference. Because of the big PS4 unveil, I can understand that the Vita wasn't very prominent but even the PS3 was shown more.

If this keeps up at Gamescom and TGS they surely have given up on the device.

last years E3 was the same thing, Gamescom was much better in that regard,

Why do you make the artificial retail distinction? A good game is a good game.

I think ports is the more important word in his statement. If you want to expand the audience I don't think these games will do it. Tearaway looks great but games like Thomas Was Alone, Limbo, and Hotline Miami just aren't doing it. Hardcore gamers have played these games already.

I played my Vita at the neighborhood pool and was surrounded by oohing-and-aahing kids. None of them could afford it. I was looked upon as a god because I had a Vita and a PSP Go. A holiday price drop could definitely move sales.

I love all these "little" games we're getting. For the most part, I just don't get into the AAA, console-lite titles.

Thanks for the thread OP, & and the impressions anihawk. Gonna prorder tearaway.

'Vita r doomed' posters are pretty funny.

Nothing wrong with Vita as a niche portable and ps4 peripheral, quite happy with mine still.

The bad news is that none of those titles look like system sellers

Maybe Sony isn't aiming for a single system selling title but for a system selling package.

Definitive Indiemachine which is able to play Ps4 games via RemotePlay, later also Ps3 games via Gaikai(maybe also Ps2?). Additionally some great ports like Rayman Legends, remakes of classics like GodOfWar, Jak&DaxterHD, FFX HD and a few big titles like Tearaway, Killzone, SoulSacrifice or Freedom Wars.

I think that is a very appealing package.
I think that Ps4 and PS+ will be HUGE for the Vita.
Ps4 is going to sell like crazy - everybody is going to get PS+ - everybody is going to love PS+ - everybody is going to get free Vita games every month - everybody has a load of free Vita games after a few months - even tho they don't own a Vita yet.
Don't you think that will attract a lot of people?

shame i probably already own most of these games from humble bundles.

When cool indie games come out day and date on pc and vita this could be huge for me.

Once they drop the price, I'll really want to get one, just for Spleunky since that is my favorite game ever. Vita looks amazing for an indie future. The fact that I have tons of Vita games stored up from PS+ is so exciting! I never played PSP games either. And then my PS4 comes out it will be even more worth it. I'd guess I'll prolly get it next year.

I love the PS2, openly mocked Sony for years after the PS3 launch....but now I am completely won over.

the "awesome" Shahid vindicated, lol

But WHY DID HE LIE TO US ;_;

If people were surprised to see Sony paying so much attention to indies for PS4, that's just what they've been doing for Vita for months now. I dunno if its enough to sell vast amounts of hardware but if you buy a Vita, rest assured that you will have a fuckton of awesome indie games to play.

The bad news is that none of those titles look like system sellers

Vita already had its system seller as far as i'm concerned.

I'm mixed : it will be great to replay some of these games on the go, but it doesn't really replace truly new games whose gameplay has been thought for the specificities of the vita. Where is my Gravity Daze 2, Sony ?

shame i probably already own most of these games from humble bundles.

Arent you curious to see how Hotline Miami play on vita ?
