PR:

Transformers can change into anything, but this week there is no change for them at the top of the All Formats Chart as ‘Transformers: The Game’ from Activision holds on for a second week.

Both Pokemon games drop 40% in sales, but ‘Pokemon Diamond’ still shines brightest as No2, while ‘Pokemon Pearl’ slips 4 places from No3 to No7. There are still 8 games which are exclusive to Nintendo formats (DS and Wii) in the All Formats Top 10, although ‘Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree’ is expelled from the Top 10, down from No7 to No16, while ‘New Super Mario Bros.’ climbs 2 places, re-entering the Top 10 at No10. ‘Mario Party 8’ is the highest All Formats Top 10 climber, up 4 places to No5 as the Italian plumber notches up 3 Top 40 games (2 of which are in the Top 10). Nintendo’s dominance is further enhanced by this week’s only All Formats Top 40 new entry, ‘Trauma Center: Second Opinion’ on Wii, while Ubisoft’s ‘Surf’s Up’ has a successful 2nd week thanks to the launch of the film, entering the Top 40 for the first time at No11.

Wow... Wii did extremely well. It has 13 (possibly even 14 with Cooking Mama) games in the charts! PS3 has 3.

EDIT: For those that don't know how to look at these charts and will reply to my post "bu-bu- I count 10 PS3 games up there because Vegas is on PS3!"

I get disoriented when people don't post the Full Price charts as well.

I have posted the Full Price chart for UK, there's no such thing (as far as I know) for Ireland.

Does Vegas count for the 360?

Vegas on 360 is budget priced, so it doesn't show up in the best-selling 360 game list along with the other games... although it is the best-selling budget game for 360. It could be possible, but the bad thing about these PAL charts is that combined SKUs across multiple platforms are charted, so the only reason Transformers is higher than Pokemon is because Transformers is on however many platforms it is and Diamond is only on DS.

Vegas for PS3 is the fifth best selling game on the system, but the last game that showed up on either list for the PS3 is Formula 1, meaning that even though Vegas is above it on the All/Full Charts, it is likely because of the 360 version among others.

So why does it show up as #21 on full price ahead of F1? PC/PSP version?

Yes, 360, PS3, PC, whatever versions all combine to give the game that spot. We know it wasn't the PS3 game by itself, because that placed two spots below Formula 1 just on the PS3 specific chart.

Going by Jammy's logic we have:
5 X360 titles on the top 40, 3 of them being 3rd party titles;
13 Wii titles on the top 40, 6 of them being 3rd party titles;
3 PS3 titles, 0 3rd party.

I think i can live with that :)

There's 13 Wii games. Sonic and the Secret Rings is the last one.

Hoy shit, the Trauma Center debut is really strong.

I'm very tempted to buy it but since they already announced another TC game with 16:9 and 480p support and TC is full price I'll probably wait until it hits the bargain bin. It's a smashing success for Atlus already.

Strikers and RE4 still holding on and very much deserve to as well. Forza, Motorstorm and Resistance are holding steady as well, pretty good legs.

Slow sales week.

Great to see Trauma Centre enter so high, hopefully word of mouth will keep this one afloat behind the MP8 & BA sales.

PS3 exclusive titles seem to have relatively dipped in a week of low releases, are the bundles starting to pick up the sales from the in-store packs finally?

Yep, no doubt helped by Nintendo publishing and subsequently marketing the game too.

RFoM, Motorstorm and F1:CE have been back in the full price charts for a month now...

Trauma Center has had a really big TV advertising push here in the UK.

yeah all the games at the top are the ones on TV and advertised in streets, stores and mags.
This is getting the majority and the kids buying.

Nintendo especially is pushing adds on everything and its working.

Jammy said:
Yes, but they've dipped from the past week. I believe that was his point.

Exactly - this is the first week since the 'price drop' that the games haven't risen, either suddenly demand has stabilized (unlikely) or some stores are running out of launch machines and selling the new packs (likely). Either-way it's good news for Sony and for retailers paranoid about ordering PS3 things due to dust on their existing stock.

I still see the 'stuck on' bundle deals in a few stores by me though so the packaged games will probably drop harder in the next two weeks (but still be selling - not counting bundled games is daft if you ask me).

Didn't see one single spot here in Germany. Which doesn't mean there aren't any, since I'm not watching much TV, but I'm still curious how well it's received here.

Oh.

But even then. I think they've dipped the week after they came back into the charts. Still doing pretty well, and show that PS3's are moving in UK. I wonder if it's really localized, or if it's the same in other EU countries

I can't believe, that Resistance is still number one in the UK PS3 charts. Is that because it probably has a 1:1 tie in ratio for people buying the PS3, it's the game that everyone gets?

Though in saying that, I'm assuming that the chart isn't including pack in games towards it's final tally seeing as both Resistance and Motorstorm are part of the 'summer starter pack' promotion.

I do watch quite a lot and I've never seen one either... don't know how previous games of the series did here, but I don't remember anyone even mentioning it.

Do bundled games count? Cause that would explain it, since both Resistance and Motorstorm are bundled with PS3's now.

Sure, but nevertheless I never thought this would topple the full price top 10.

Haven't seen any advertising in Germany either. I don't think it'll make the top 10 here tbh.

Store bundles count. As of right now, the bundles are mainly remaining PS3s bundled in store with remaining games (at least that's how I understand it) and thus count. The slow decline of both Resistance and Motorstorm in the charts hints at the "old" in store bundles slowly selling out and "new" bundles selling more (which don't count since they're shipped with the games).

360

5. THE DARKNESS

6. THE DARKNESS

15. THE DARKNESS

Low charting PS3-sku pushes The Darkness so much ahead of Gears? UK-sales must be really low..

Prime crotch said:

Nope - bundled games don't count.

Most retailers when I last checked were still selling launch day PS3s with Motorstorm and Resistance and F1 as a pack for the new price though which would not only count for the chart but would also explain the spike in sales of the big 3 titles.

Resistance is still the No1 PS3 game because absolutely no other AAA titles have captured the public sufficiently to stay at number 1 for more than a week or so. Sing-star will probably be the next big PS3 game.

I get the first part, but why does it necessarily mean that the "new" bundles are selling more?

It doesn't see Post 32.

So either there was a spike of PS3 sales for exactly the past 3 weeks of increasing chart position but decreasing sales and they fell inline with the market this week, or people are just picking up the bundles instead. Note that PS3 game sales are now declining at the same rate as the market.

Not such a great week for the PS3 games this week...

And I will never understand how the hell games like Transformers continue to be on top... The game completely sucks.

The DS versions doesn't suck though, and they're quite popular Wi-Fi games.

Anyway, Nintendomination continues world wide.

Transformers is a popular license and there's a version (or two in DS's case) on pretty much every console.

People are buying it because it is transformers, not because it is a good game, they know nothing about it usually. Most people buy games because they like the name or the box art.

In a previous thread, someone who used to see the numbers said that once you go below the Top Ten, or maybe even the top five, the numbers are very very low.

so resistance moved up 1 place in full priced charts, while MS and F1 droped one place...
is this what the whole discussion is about?

Keep in mind that stores started selling Offical bundles, which dont count, so in fact, we could have MORE PS3 game copies on the market this week, than last week.

Ehm.
