The story originally broke last week, and now three more men have come forward:

EXCLUSIVE: Hip hop legend Afrika Bambaataa accused of sex abuse by three more men: ‘He is a pervert — he likes little boys’

Campbell and several other men told The News last week that they were sexually abused by Bambaataa, the South Bronx hip-hop pioneer whose 1982 hit "Planet Rock" helped turn rap music into an international phenomenon.

The men stepped forward after The News published a story last Sunday about former music industry executive and Democratic Party activist Ronald Savage, who claims Bambaataa abused him at least five times in 1980, inflicting deep emotional wounds.

"I know what Ronald Savage is saying is true because he did it to me," said a 50-year-old New York man who requested anonymity. "I have never spoken to anybody about this and when I did, I said 'Holy s---, they finally caught up to him.'"

...

Campbell and Bambaataa's other accusers all say the music star showed them pornographic pictures or videos and then performed oral sex on them.

"He showed me a book with a picture of a penis and said, 'You don't have to be gay for me to suck your d---," Troy said.

"Accused them of being part of a government conspiracy"

Yeah that's up there with the worst and most transparent bullshit tactics there is.

God damn, this is really, really saddening, anger inducing, and depressing. Can't listen to Planet Rock anymore without it feeling tainted a little.

you haven't lived until a random little kid ask you "how do you make love".
Jesus if one more pioneer gets outed as monster I'm going to lose it.

I wonder what can be done in cases like these.

It sounds like Michael Jackson all over again, it's their words against his words and all we are left with is doubt.

Disgusting in any case.

The rumors of Afrika Bambaataa doing things like this have been going around for years, so I guess it's coming to light now. Let's see how it pans out.

What a horrible situation.

A friend's older brother was a pretty good DJ back in the day, he used to haang out with some Brooklyn rappers, who I can't remember right now. Anyways, I remember one of them saying some kind of homophobic slang joke about Afrika at a party that made everyone laugh but I didn't get it at the time - I think I do now.

It sounds like he had someone try to bribe one of the victims and the victim recorded it. What a piece of shit. Fucking celebrities getting away with decades of rape and molestation over and over again.

Not surprised as I heard stories similar to this years ago from someone embedded in the NY hiphop scene. Glad the truth is finally coming out.

Afrika Bambaataa has been batty for the longest time. That much was public knowledge (see the randomness of the Universal Zulu Nation), but being a child abuser is a whole different thing.

But I guess he won't face prosecution due to the statute of limitations for sex abuse cases which is a shame.
Why is there a limit for these types of cases? It makes no sense.

Eh, it's common slang in England/Jamaica. In the context of the thread I can see how people would assume that meaning, but whatever.

You were faster than my ninja editing skills.

Anyway, now I feel really bad about all those ancient early electronic collabs I have around the office... Bambaataa was a legend. It's so gross to discover that one of your early musical fixations turned out to be a predator.

Yeah, I was going to say - I would absolutely not use the term batty in this sense. Certainly in London that term has really just become a pejorative for gay amongst the Afro-Caribbean community.

Understand it's not intentional in any way, one of those weird language things.

Hey man Billy Jean was catchy so it doesn't matter how many lives he ruined.

The bigger the celebrity you are the more things are allowed to slide. Jackson being who he was, even sleeping in beds with kids wasn't enough to convince a lot of people.

Michael Jackson was innocent, c'mon now.

I never understood the suspicion myself. So what if he slept in the same bed with boys, talked about masturbation with them, and kept books of porn, some of which containing underage nude boys, in his bedroom? Certainly nothing eyebrow raising.

do you have a source for all of this, because other than the bed part this is the first time I'm hearing these specific details.

This just killed my day. So many people that we've looked up to growing up are frauds and despicable.

I'm hoping it's not true.

SMH so sad.

I wonder if some of these monsters regret the day the internet was born, because it's making it easier for people to come forward and call them out.

It really makes you wonder just how many others are engaging in this sort of behavior right now. Celebrity culture in this nation makes getting away with abuse extremely easy and I strongly doubt that, if he's truly guilty, Bambaataa will face any justice for his crimes.

Entertainment industry is especially egregious. It's a meat grinder for the young in more ways than one. You've got fans and aspirants to exploit.
