Wow. Definitely gonna be keeping an eye out for this.

The English dub is gonna be out same day? Am I reading that right?

Yeah this is pretty megaton.

Yuasa, the hardest working man in anime biz.

Or...maybe he is actually a collective? Like some sort of hivemind of multiple people. A Yuasamind.

Considering the man does no wrong, this is gonna be fucking sweet.

I haven't seen Ping Pong or Tatami Galaxy. Mindgame is legit one of my favorite movies of the 00s and I remember some striking scenes from Kemonozume.

I, for one, am interested!

Ping Pong and Mind Game are some of my favorite anime/movies. I have no idea what Devilman Crybaby is but I'm super excited for anything that comes from his hands and mind.

Devilman is a dark, edgy, and trashy manga by Go Nagai which is filled with sex, violence, and grade school philosophy about the nature of good and evil and religious motifs. But it is also super iconic and one of the bedrocks of horror tone in anime and manga. This is probably going to be really good.

I'm so fucking excited! Not familiar with the man's work but I've been dying for more Devilman for years.

This is going to be properly animated yes? No crappy CGI animation?

hell yeah, devilman is just purely made for violent mayhem and nudity, it is goddamn amazing. i just read it this year and thought it was so insane how good it was even if its from like 1972

also shin megami tensei borrows liberally from it, especially basically the whole idea of nocturne

its so awesome. and it is hilarious how nagai clearly draws like all female demons as having human figure bases as an excuse to draw tits. but hey silen and miki are badass soooo

It's going to be 2D animated yes. But Yuasa's style isn't exactly traditional anime clean lineart stuff. He's more experimental, and there will probably be a good amount of it produced digitally via Flash and what not, but it won't be CG stuff. He generally gets REALLY good animators and artists for his projects because he's one of the big arthouse names in the industry.

He has two movies coming out this year, check out the trailers to get a sense of what to expect:

And then watch the Ping Pong opening animation for his TV adaptation:

When I hear the name "Go Nagai", I only think "mecha"; this all sounds right up my alley.

What the fuck? I'm sorry to go off topic here but is that first one a Tatami Galaxy film?

Wow that stuff looks super good. With that second video's vibe I could imagine them doing a very literal adaptation of Go Nagai's style. Although that intro video shows the dude certainly can be stylistically dark. As a long time Devilman fan I was just happy to get something but it certainly sounds like it's in good hands.

Took me a few tries for my mind to process that one. Didn't quite believe it until I clicked on the link and watched the teaser.

I was thinking 'surely it must be a different Devilman?'. Nope, Go Nagai. Not sure how faithful it will be in reality, but with the talent on board hopefully it can be the best Devilman related thing since the OVAs.

Also please don't be CGI.

Edit: not CGI. Good.

If they're adapting the "original ending" I'd imagine it'll be pretty faithful

And then maybe an adaptation of
Violence Jack
:D

Hopefully it is every bit as balls to the wall crazy as it should be, and not just faithful to the story.

If you have watched Kemonozume, I don't think you would be worried about that at all. Yuasa is definitely crazy, and not just for the sake of being crazy.

Oh, wow, this looks fantastic. Ping Pong was brilliant, and Masaki Yuasa's episode of Space Dandy was fucking amazeballs. I'd also never heard of Eunyoung Choi, I didn't realize she'd done one of my favorite episodes of Space Dandy. I'll definitely keep an eye out for this.

It should also be mentioned that at a talk event in December, Yuasa mentioned that he was working on a TV series to be revealed in March, presumably this, with Kiyotaka Oshiyama (Space Dandy episode 18, Flip Flappers) assisting. Yuasa and Oshiyama said the series was filled with so much sexual content it would probably get an R rating.

This is pretty exciting, reminds me that I still need to see Ping Pong!

For other Yuasa stuff, the order is clearly Tatami > Kaiba > Kemonozume > Mind Game. So far for me he just gets better with time!

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
Damn now this is awesome to see. I'm so glad Netflix got into the anime making business as this kind of stuff plus what Adult Swim seems to be doing is making for some really great stuff.

You wanna really blow people away Netflix. Get us a high budget faithful well made Berserk anime series.

Oh. Looks like Oshiyama can redeem himself for wasting time on Flip Floppers.
