And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'

Why google video? What if you want quality too? Stage 6 is the way to go. Almost the entire series The World at War is up on Stage 6, sadly not the first episode (Hitler's rise to power), but here are several others:
Episode 2: Distant War (Sept '39 - May '40):
Episode 3: France Falls (May - June '40)
Episode 4: Alone (May '40 - May '41)
Episode 5: Barbarossa (Jun - Dec '41)
Each is 50ish minutes in length.

Nice, I totally forgot about Stage 6, thanks.

Why google video though? Because it doesn't cut off at the 10 minute mark like fucking YouTube, that's why. And I don't want to see a 1 hour long documentary cut into 6 pieces.

Anyone have Hunting the Zodiac, the documentary of the 1969 Zodiac killer? I just watched the recent movie, and it was a fascinating story.

Fuck Stage6, until they build a stable plug-in for 64-bit OSs I'm boycotting that shit. (AERO gets disabled when the plug-in is loaded)

But isn't there like 100 episodes or something? I got my dad those DVDs for Father's Day and it was something like a 10 DVD set.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

edit: for those to lazy to click
"The films compare the rise of the American Neo-Conservative movement and the radical Islamist movement, making comparisons on their origins and suggesting a strong connection between the two. More controversially, it argues that the threat of radical Islamism as a massive, sinister organised force of destruction, specifically in the form of al-Qaeda, is in fact a myth perpetrated by politicians in many countries — and particularly American Neo-Conservatives — in an attempt to unite and inspire their people following the failure of earlier, more utopian ideologies."

great thread, hope this gets big

This thread made me finally hook a laptop up to my Bravia full-time.

My Toshiba Portege wouldn't give me any res options other than 1024 x 768 and I couldn't get Powerstrip to work properly on it so I tried my IBM Thinkpad X40 and it offered up 1360 x 768 right away, I added a USB <-> RCA audio adaptor and a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse combo that hides under the coffee table and now I've got a quiet, little dedicated PC tucked behind my HT cabinet for watching Stage6 docos and anything else that gets posted in this thread. :D

I absolutely love stage6, but the only thing that annoys me is not being able to navigate to any certain point of the video thats currently loading.

I'm trying to watch the second World at War video and last night stopped it around the 22 minute mark and now the only way to get there again is to re-watch the whole thing :|

Keep these submissions rolling guys! Great so far!

Its mainly about the relationship between the Zodiac and most western religions. 2nd part and its the really surprising part is about how a certain red mushroom is related to Christianity. Oh and that same mushroom is the same kind found in Super Mario Bros.

I spent most of my weekend watching these

I watched the male escort documentary as well. it intially made me think the hosts were doing something pretty good. Then I realize that they're basically comfort men for prostitutes. Not that that's bad really I guess...

Pretty powerful movie, has closed captioning so you can put on English subtitles.

But that's not a documentary but an actual movie.

Probably educational though, so I guess it could fit in here :)

This thread is a gift from heaven. :D

I love watching documentaries, but I never get around to look for them.

Edit: 7 minutes into the Guys and Dolls documentary and I'm deeply disturbed. :-|

Knocking: A award winning documentary about the Jehovah's Witnesses and their impact on the freedoms we appreciate today.
The Elegant Universe: A fascinating NOVA special about the various theories and scientific hypothesis surrounding what makes the very nature of our entire universe tick. Blows my mind every time.
Paradise Lost: The Child Murders At Robin Hood Hills Part I... there's like 38 split parts on youtube, so i won't list them all here, but it's all extremely easy to find. One of the best and simultaneously most frustrating documentaries I've ever seen...

Things I learnt from the docos in this thread...

Guys with Real Dolls don't deserve the benefit of doubt. Imagine how freaky you think someone would need to be to date a rubber girl, now multiply it by 100.

The lunar landing was fake. The prop stage they used is stored at Area 51, hence the secrecy.

We could land on Mars within years if we wanted to using current propulsion technology.

If you're a savant the space between the shapes is the answer.

If you're gullible the answer in getting what you want is to simply think hard about that thing, this is called 'The Secret' yet it doesn't seem to have any actual secrecy surrounding it.

High ranking scientologists aren't deluded-but-nice, they're nasty and manipulative.

The same factors that lead Earth to support life also make Earth one of the most optimal bodies in the universe from which to observe the galaxies around us.

Blind dudes who can whistle tones to get free phonecalls are righteous dudes.

Every solar system has a black hole at its center.

Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Prices.

Everyone should watch this. I've probably spent over $15,000 of my money at Wal-Mart in the last 10 years. Not anymore. I've been Wal-Mart free for almost a year.

I HATED that Documentary.
I love how the very left wing crew making the film starts the film by first showing the most southern & most conservative stores in the U.S. as if they are run by Jesus & then have it seem like it's wrong that Wal-Mart is pushing them out.

They are in the business of capitalism, not soicalism, if they can't compete then they should GTFO.

Who killed the electric car?

Plot said:
With gasoline prices approaching $4/gallon, fossil fuel shortages, unrest in oil producing regions around the globe and mainstream consumer adoption and adoption of the hybrid electric car (more than 140,000 Prius' sold this year), this story couldn't be more relevant or important. The foremost goal in making this movie is to educate and enlighten audiences with the story of this car, its place in history and in the larger story of our car culture and how it enables our continuing addiction to foreign oil. This is an important film with an important message that not only calls to task the officials who squelched the Zero Emission Vehicle mandate, but all of the other accomplices, government, the car companies, Big Oil, even Eco-darling Hydrogen as well as consumers, who turned their backs on the car and embrace embracing instead the SUV. Our documentary investigates the death and resurrection of the electric car, as well as the role of renewable energy and sustainable living in our country's future; issues which affect everyone from progressive liberals to the neo-conservative right.

Wiki said:
A large part of the film accounts for GM's efforts to demonstrate to California that there was no demand for their product, and then to take back every EV1 and dispose of them. A few were disabled and given to museums and universities, but almost all were found to have been crushed; GM never responded to the EV drivers' offer to pay the residual lease value ($1.9 million was offered for the remaining 78 cars in Burbank before they were crushed). Several activists are shown being arrested in the protest that attempted to block the GM car carriers taking the remaining EV1s off to be crushed.

The film explores some of the reasons that the auto and oil industries worked to kill off the electric car. Wally Rippel is shown explaining that the oil companies were afraid of losing out on trillions in potential profit from their transportation fuel monopoly over the coming decades, while the auto companies were afraid of losses over the next six months of EV production. Others explained the killing differently. GM spokesman Dave Barthmuss argued it was lack of consumer interest due to the maximum range of 80–100 miles per charge, and the relatively high price.

Was shown on Swedish television a couple of days ago, found it interesting.
