Dying Light is a first-person, action survival horror game set in a vast and dangerous open world. During the day, players traverse an expansive urban environment overrun by a vicious outbreak, scavenging the world for supplies and crafting weapons to defend against the growing infected population. At night, the hunter becomes the hunted, as the infected become aggressive and more dangerous. Most frightening are the predators which only appear after sundown. Players must use everything in their power to survive until the morning’s first light.

Survive the Night - During the day, players roam free and scavenge for supplies and weapons. But at night, the world undergoes a deadly transformation: the hunter becomes the hunted as the infected grow more aggressive and numerous, and something far more sinister awakens to stalk its prey.
Free Running Movement - Whether tracking prey or escaping predators, Dying Light lets players swiftly navigate the world by seamlessly leaping between buildings, grappling up walls and pouncing on unsuspecting enemies.
Welcome to the Quarantine - Dying Light is set in a vast open world, delivering expansive and varied environments, a wide variety of enemy classes and a hopeless tale of survival where resources are scarce and the infected are not the only threat.
Brutal Melee and Ranged Combat - get up-close using a variety of light and heavy weapons including knives, bats, axes, sledgehammers and more exotic weaponry or utilize guns and other firepower to take down enemies from a distance.
Choose Your Play Style - Dying Light features four playable characters that can be fully customized and upgraded to match any play style.
Craft Your Weapon - Why use a wrench when you can use a wrench wrapped in electrified barb wire? Dying Light’s sizeable crafting system enables players to create a slew of new, more potent weapons and equipment, as well as specialized ammunition.
Breathtaking Visuals and Gameplay - Dying Light is the first game powered by Chrome Engine 6, a cutting edge incarnation of Techland’s proprietary technology, designed from the ground up for the new console generation, DirectX 11 and other advanced solutions.

EDIT (more info from Polygamia):

- DI: Riptide was made by Techland Warsaw (a secondary studio); Dying Light is being developed in Wroclaw (the original team), the production started right after they finished first Dead Island,
- randomized side quests available through the city,
- larger infected groups than in Dead Island games,
- critical hits illustrated by X-ray flashes (probably similar to Sniper Elite v2),
- the protagonist is also infected by the virus, it will give him super-powers (seriously); one of the examples is a "zombie-sonar" (similar to the Prototype 2 one),
- completing quests during night-time will give more/better rewards,
- more at E3, will probably be playable during the show.

Would thought Riptide would have taught them the consequences of recycling an old game's assets and pretending it's new.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announces Dying Light, a first-person, action survival horror video game with a portentous day-night cycle set in a vast open world. Currently under development by Techland, the game will be available in 2014 for Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®4, plus Xbox 360, PlayStation®3 system, and PC.

During the day, players will traverse an expansive urban environment overrun by a vicious outbreak, scavenging the world for supplies and crafting weapons to defend against the growing infected population. At night, the hunter becomes the hunted, as the infected become aggressive and more dangerous. Most frightening are the predators which only appear after sundown. Players must use everything in their power to survive until the morning's first light.

"We are excited to partner with Techland on Dying Light, which is an original gaming experience for next-generation consoles," said Kevin Kebodeaux, Senior Vice President, Sales and Operations, Americas, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "The partnership with Techland allows us to combine their successful development capabilities with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment's one-of-a-kind publishing expertise to deliver on this title."

"The next-gen technology allows us to create a truly dynamic open world that features a game-changing day-night cycle," said Paweł Marchewka, CEO of Techland. "Inventive free running mechanics also allow for nearly unrestricted exploration and weapon-crafting to further enhance the action survival experience."

looks like Dead Island.

but going by the NPD thread, they're gonna keep making this kind of game until people get tired of it.

So basically next gen Dead Island? I liked both of them so bring it on, bugs and all the Dead Island games were a hell of a lot of fun. At least playing in co-op.

If they nail the things that made Mirror's Edge so incredible, I'll buy it.

In other words, I won't be buying it.

More horror games, yay!

Though I would've appreciated something else than another post-apocalyptic first-person survival game.

Dead Island with Jumping.

and I'm not sure if Techland care about quality anymore, Dead Island: Riptide got release in April, then Hellraid announced, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger just got released this week and they already have another game in development.

Concept sounds great. As with Mirror's Edge the occasional allure to force gun combat soured the experience. If it really is an open world, and the zombies aren't the meat of the experience, but merely a setting then that's cool with me. The crafting and focus on weapons leads me to believe this will be little more than a zombie shooter.

Cautiously optimistic.

EDIT:
To their credit, the newly-released CoJ: Gunslinger is quite interesting and fun (and isn't The Cartel, thankfully).
Pre-order without seeing footage? Good luck with that Warner...

Techland would make me dismissive were it not for the fact I'm playing Call of Juarez: Gunslinger.

The game is fucking awesome.

Techland? Didn't they make dead island?

not sure if want...

Yes, which is a triumph compared to Call of Juarez: The Cartel, which was utter shit. I wasn't aware they worked on Gunslinger since I barely have any interest in that title at this time, but my buddy says its decent. Maybe this will prove decent as well?

It's so nice to finally have press releases that list every damn platform it's going to be on instead of "next-generation consoles".

Since there is no hope of Mirror's Edge 2, i will take anything Mirror's Edge-esque

Pretty much this.

I played Mirror's Edge for the first time a few months ago. It was confusing at first, but pretty much midway throughthe game I mastered the controls and, when I got to that point, it became one of the funnest, most immersive games I'd played in years. Easily one of the best games of this gen and it's absolutely CRIMINAL that it hasn't gotten a sequel.

I'm kinda over Zombie/Survival-Horror, but I'll be checking for this sole because of the promise of a Mirror's Edge-esque experience.

If it's actually survival instead of just killing tons of zombies then i'm all for it.

he can also craft more obscure weapons like a chainsaw that pulses with electricity.

nevermind, it's just dead island again.

Definitely sounds intriguing.

I hope they focus more on the parkour/evasion element than the bludgeoning zombies/combat element.

I'm fine with this. Finished Dead Island Riptide a few days ago and loved it, really enjoy that games combat system. Gimme that and some free running ? Why yes please indeed.

Sounds like an interesting idea, even though the zombie/vampire hype train has long departed from station..
Environment in those shots reminds me of brazilian favelas.

Gunslinger is rather good. As bored as I am of zombies, the concept is rather good and ME-style gameplay is always welcome. Hopefully they can pull it off.
