Gameplay trailer [YT]

Today’s the day we can finally talk F1!

First things first, we’re working on two new Formula 1 titles – one on old gen, the other on new gen.

Coming October 17th is F1 2014 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Drawing upon all our experience in developing Formula 1 titles down the years, F1 2014 recreates this year’s incredible season featuring all the seismic changes to the sport, including new turbocharged cars, new circuits plus all the driver moves.

Further details on the Codies blog, PS4/X1 coming in 2015 "earlier than usual".

Now onto new-gen. 2015 will see us release our first title on new-generation platforms. The game will launch earlier in the Formula One season and then go onto receive live digital updates. These updates will deliver 2015 content into the game as the season unfolds, ensuring you’ll be competing against the same drivers and teams you watch week in and week out!

We’re incredibly excited about new-gen F1 and we know you are too. We’re not yet ready to reveal everything about it yet, but we’ll have a lot more info to share once F1 2014 launches this October.

Further details on new-gen...

We are making a next gen game! And most importantly we’re writing a brand new engine to go with it. The entire game experience is being re-engineered from the ground up and that’s why it wasn’t possible to release this year. Rest assured though, in addition to improvements in the physics, AI, and graphics, the game will launch much earlier in the Formula One season, and will then go onto receive a number of digital updates throughout the year!

Should probably be in the OP. Next gen is confirmed for 2015, and next gen game will be released earlier in the season than the current gen ones have been (Late September).

How realistic will it be? Say, if I choose to drive as Nico Rosbergs partner, will I have random component failure and 5 second pitstops?

What, no next-gen? Wow. Definitely skipping this one.

The release plan for the next-gen version somewhat sounds like a mitigation strategy for delayed development.

Production and development timings for a yearly release didn't help. 2015 is supposed to be the first PS4/XboxOne version.

Well, at least next-gen will be spared the 2014 penis-noses.

They release these things every September/October.. it's not unreasonable to expect 2014 to be on the latest platforms, given they've had almost an entire year as usual.

Gonna be honest, I'm going to wait for f1 2015. My ps3 is on it's deathbed and as much as I love f1, I really can't see myself buying two games in less than a year. Kudos to cm for announcing their plans honestly and not stringing us along like so many others devs have done with regards to the gen transition, but I can't see f1 2014 doing well in light of this news.

Hope it works out well for you though. I love codies and want them to do well.

Very disappointed even when I was expecting this to happen considering they are developing a new engine for next gen and Codemasters is very under staffed at this moment (their fault). However this makes it another game sent to die by Codemasters just like GRID Autosport was (already in bomba prices 1 month after release).

Next-gen is coming next year, will be syncing up to a release date earlier on in the season. All the details in the blog post :)

I heard the exact same story last July when you guys announced F1 2012 (except for the earlier release date for the next iteration), so I will believe it when I see it.

You need longer than 11 months to adapt your engine to a console you haven't developed before on. Same reason lots of games are due in 2015, change creates issues and extra time is needed especially for unforeseen problems that might crop up.

Not a clue how the v6 turbos will sound from the trailer. This game is being released with 3 races left in the actual 2014 season on last-gen consoles (TBD 2015 for PS4/X1). Good luck Codies, you're going to need it.

As someone who has been playing a lot of project cars on PC I can say I will be skipping this. Going from PCars to F1 2013 really shows how dated it is and I'm not giving them anymore money until they up the game with a next gen version.

Why aren't Codemasters jumping on the 8th generation bandwagon? What are they planning?

Oh, OK. Saw the second article snippet now.

Will the updates be free? I hope I can get the full game and not buy bits and pieces over time. Problems nowadays are in games being released on a disc and half the game has to be downloaded on top. Changing the game according to the real events would be nice though but the meat should be there from the start.

All the other sports games managed it.

I just hope the current gen title has things like proper qualifying (with cars going out on track etc etc) and things like safety cars and some much improved driver AI.

What does this mean exactly? If Codemasters are even thinking about holding back tracks/cars from the initial release I suggest they back away from that idea immediately.

Do you have a vague idea of when that will be? Q1? Q2? A few weeks earlier?

Considering no one wants a game without the 2014 cars and some teams only reveal the final liveries in March, this will fit right in the late May/early June slot that Codemasters typical uses to release games besides F1.

F1 team is smaller than say the FIFA or Madden team. But hey if you know better.

I don't know better, but I'm not the only one in here disappointed.

Like I've said above, I'm liking the sound of them releasing earlier and applying live season updates as the year goes on with 2015. It's just that I (along with most other people) would have thought 2014 would release on the current generation.

Yeah, May/June is probably the absolute earliest we can realistically expect seeing a release.

I'm starting to think that someone at Codemasters is very, very afraid of taking any risk. I mean WHY no current gen consoles? Is there any reason? There are no good racing games on the PS4...

It must be a huge time saver just copying pasting the garage animations from the 2011 version. Hopefully they won't have an issue with next gen.

Yeah, I hope it wont be a "Madden 06" first nextgen kind of game. Barebone with only some of the features from the previous game.

Also I guess this also confirm tha 2014 will be another F1 game farmed out to an outside devs since the main F1 team is working on 2015.

Finally they (can) release the game in spring when the season starts, I'm so glad. :) Every year we asked this they said it's not possible because they didn't have time to create the new car models in time ...

In Codies' defence (not something I like to say), they're a much smaller team than the usual yearly sports titles. It's still ridiculous though.

How realistic will it be? Say, if I choose to drive as Nico Rosbergs partner, will I have random component failure and 5 second pitstops?

Spectacular.

I might buy this on PC. The first and last Codies F1 game I bought was 2010 and I couldn't bring myself to play another one, but I'm really itching for at least a semi-decent racing game on my PS4 or PC.

This will still apply, don't get your hopes up for anything ealier than May/June.
