FAQ:

FAQ said:
When is Guild Wars 2 going to be released?

When it's finished. Guild Wars 2 is the largest project ArenaNet® has ever undertaken, and we want to make sure we take the time to do it right.

When are you going to release more information?

We will release more info about lore and races later this year. We will reveal more about gameplay early next year.

When will there be a beta?

Although we publicly beta-tested the original Guild Wars® while it was still in early development, with Guild Wars 2 we will commence beta testing closer to the game's release. Guild Wars 2 is a very large and ambitious game, and Guild Wars players rightfully have very high expectations. We want players to be absolutely blown away by the game the first time they experience it.

What platforms will Guild Wars 2 be available on?

Guild Wars 2 is being developed for the PC.

Will there be a subscription fee for Guild Wars 2?

Nope. Like the original Guild Wars, there will be no subscription fee for Guild Wars 2. You just buy the game and play it online without paying a monthly fee.

Will Guild Wars 2 be an MMO?

Yes. Guild Wars 2 provides a massive, online persistent world.

How is Guild Wars 2 different from other MMOs?

While Guild Wars 2 adds a persistent-world experience, it retains the unique characteristics of the original game, including strong narrative, extensive instanced gameplay, anti-grind design philosophy, and strong support for competitive play.

Will Guild Wars 2 have non-human playable races?

Absolutely! In addition to humans, players will be able to create, customize, and play a variety of non-human races.

* Charr - Ascalon's conquerors, the charr are ferocious, warmongering creatures--the intractable foes of humanity. Now, as greater dangers threaten their conquests, charr legions and their war machines prepare for battle.
* Norn - The norn are towering brawlers from the frigid northern lands who can shape-shift into mighty bestial forms. Driven from their homeland by a force beyond reckoning, the norn have regrouped among the dwarven ruins of the Shiverpeaks.
* Asura - The asura, who once ruled the caverns and tunnels below Tyria, are an advanced race of small size and great intellect. Now that they have risen from below, the asura aim to rule the surface world with their powerful golems and ingenious plans.
* Sylvari - Not much is known of the sylvari, save that they are a race of sentient plant-beings, newly blossomed into the world. The sylvari are the youngest of the races, bound together by a common dream and awesome power.

How will character progression work? Will you be raising the level cap?

Guild Wars 2 will have the kind of extensive character advancement appropriate to a persistent-world RPG. Our goal is to avoid forcing players into the grind-based gameplay that too often accompanies a high level cap.

Also, to allow players the freedom to play together even if their friends are at a much higher (or lower) level, we are planning to implement a strong sidekick system, similar to that used in City of Heroes™.

We're applying this same philosophy to competitive play. Players will be able to engage in organized, balanced PvP (similar to GvG in the original Guild Wars) without first leveling up characters, finding equipment, and unlocking skills. While inside the organized PvP area, all characters will be the same power level and will have access to the same equipment.

Will Guild Wars 2 be solo-able?

Yes. You will be able to advance your character to the maximum level without ever joining a group if you so desire. Most content will be designed in a solo-friendly way, though often with mechanisms for scaling up in difficulty when more players are involved. This will give players the option to experience the game however they prefer.

At the same time, it is important for an MMO community to join together to overcome challenges. Guild Wars 2 will feature challenges that require players to join forces.

Can I play my original Guild Wars character in Guild Wars 2?

Guild Wars 2 is a whole new game with different professions and races, new technology, and expanded gameplay. It is not possible to directly use an original Guild Wars character.

However, your original Guild Wars character names will be reserved for your use in Guild Wars 2. The Hall of Monuments in Guild Wars 2 recognizes the accomplishments commemorated by your original Guild Wars characters and provides you with unique rewards to showcase those achievements.

When will we find out the specific benefits that the Hall of Monuments provides to Guild Wars 2 characters?

We will reveal exactly how the Hall of Monuments works when we're closer to the launch of the game.

What are the system requirements for Guild Wars 2?

The system requirements haven't been finalized, but just as with the original Guild Wars series, we're committed to creating a beautiful game that will play great on mid-range gaming PCs.

It seems that ArenaNet may finally be revealing Guild Wars 2. I'm totally psyched, anyone with me?

Amidst all of the sound and fury surround the impending release of Aion, NCsoft has been quietly gearing up for a big reveal of Guild Wars 2.

The teasing has begun, the website is stirring, and the official Guild Wars 2 Twitter is now active, pointing the said web page, where the above image hovers, awaiting a day this week when it shall give way to something that should hopefully please patient fans immensely.

ArenaNet head Mike O'Brien has been teasing up a storm at the Guild Wars wiki, hinting at a big reveal to take place this week.

ArenaNet said:
I want to thank all our fans for their patience as we developed the game to the point where we can start talking about it publically. I know you've all been anxiously awaiting this moment. You'll soon understand how ambitious we've been and what we've accomplished during these past two years of development. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but from here on out we'll be able to provide you with more regular updates.

Guild Wars 2 is going to be a huge leap beyond the original. We have the best team in the industry executing at the top of their game, and I'm very proud of what our team has accomplished so far. As I said last week, I'm confident that when you get your first look at what we've been working on, you're going to love what you see. Stay tuned for an exciting week ahead.
Excited yet? Not only is O'Brien teasing, but during communications regarding press appointments at Gamescom, NCsoft said that had a big announcement coming, along with the reveal of Aion 1.5. Certainly looks like this is shaping up to be a big week for fans of guilds and the wars they have.

Thanks to Morgan for pointing us to all of these helpful Guild Wars 2 places!

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more!

I hope they don't just show a CGI trailer and then go on hiatus.

Yea, that would make perfect sense, and would be pretty cool. Lots of people tell me GW is a nice game, and I liked my short, noob experience with FFXI. It's probably going to be buy the game->free to play, right?

I fell off the guild wars train and fell behind XP packs, but I plan on hopping back on with the official sequel. Can't wait!

This game (well, the original) worth it to play solo if you've never played it before? I was in the extremely limited beta pre release and I was too much into WoW at the time to really care. I've always had a passing interest, but would only approach it from a soloist point of view to go through the campaign / story. No pvp interest at all.

I hope they keep PC requirements low.

Guild Wars 1 gave Blizzard a run for the money in terms of the quality of the 3D graphics vs requirements, yes, let's hope they stay true to that!

I mean, they don;t have to be low low. Can't developers making a huge sliding scale? Lowest being Guild Wars 1 at medium settings. If thats low for GW 2, then I will be massively happy.

Also, whats new with GW2? No instanced areas or something like that?

Well if they're also making a PS3 version, I guess they'd have to keep the requirements low.
I'm quite unsure if they're making a PS3 version or not actually.

NCSoft Seattle was hiring a lot of console programmers, but I never saw ArenaNet itself hiring any.

Though, I'm not sure what else NCSoft actually has in Seattle outside of ArenaNet.

I believe I read that they're doing the whole "channeled" business, with dungeons being both non-instanced and instanced.

I don't have the source on me, but I'll try and find it. Assuming, you know, I'm not just full of shit.

The first game's PvE content can be very difficult and frustrating if you are playing without other human players. I don't expect it to be any different in the sequel.

However, the sheer amount of content is worth the price.

Anyone think they will announce it for the PS3 as well?

If that happens. Awesome. I think that would be one of the best things to be announced all year for me personally. I freaking love Guild Wars, and I love the PS3. Delicious.

They had a giant collection of what we know so far on the Guild Wars wiki, but unfortunate that has ground to a halt due to the teaser page. :lol

Edit:

Alright, it came back. Here's everything we know so far, but please note that most of this information came from 2007, so there's a high chance that a lot has since changed: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2

Also, there was an interesting note in the concept art they released not too long ago: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=364631

:lol :lol

Anyways, I'm excited for GW2 since I played the shit out of GW and the expansions. I have faith in ANet and I just hope they're still going to have the amazing artwork appearing in game. Their art and design team are some of the best in the industry.

^pretty much this

PS3 version would be cool. A free MMO could do pretty well on consoles.

There also has to come something out of that Sony and NC Soft deal. :lol

I think Sony should work on getting Blade & Soul honestly.

Not only does that game look amazing, but it looks like it would play really well with a gamepad.

Sounds awesome, hope that NCsoft deal Sony made way back actually brings something of value to the table.. Does a PS3 version look even a bit likely at this point?

It looks spectacular but GW is a know quantity for me. Loved it back when I was still doing more PC gaming. GW2 would not run that great on my current machine. ;)

Was there ever a statement that it will come out for PS3 or did someone just pull that out of their ass? It would be cool but weird to play it on a console after playing the first one for so long on PC. I'm currently working on Nightfall on Hard Mode, going backwards to get the hardest missions over first.

Yey. Finally some information.
I forsee a April 28th 2010 release. That is confirmed.

I haven't been able to play any new MMO since I played Guild Wars, they just don't compete, but I have finished almost everything I wanted to go in Guild Wars and just been waiting on GW2.

I assume we will see them at PAX since ANET is based in Seattle.

I think it stems from Sony's announcement 1-2 years ago with their "exclusive" deal with NCSoft.

Then again, last I heard, I thought that deal fell through =/

Anyways, I cant wait for GW2 info! Loved the first one, cant wait for the sequel :)

I just really hope they tell us what the stuff in the Hall of Monuments will unlock in the new game soon so I can decide how much crap I want to scramble for!

What the fuck.

I thought you guys were joking about a PS3 version!

But GW on a console? How the shit are you supposed to select skills and.....do anything? Unless a keyboard/mouse was mandatory.

Man, I loved Guild Wars so much. If there was ever any Online game I would have a love affair and a child with, it'd be Guild Wars. I put in something like 120 hours into the beta alone across many beta weekends while in high school. Never really got into the expansions but that's okay, I still love you Guild Wars.

Well, the PS3 does support M/KB, not that I think most devs know about it.

I forget, was GW going to have a no-subscription model like the first one? I know that otherwise the game looked like it was going to be drastically different and much more like a typical MMO.

But am I missing something? Why is everyone talking about a PS3 version?
