IGN Halo 4 Multiplayer Map Walkthroughs - Every Tues/Thurs

Deadly Cyclone

Pride of Iowa State
IGN is doing multiplayer map walkthroughs of the Halo 4 maps every Tuesday and Thursday with Lead Multiplayer Map Designer Kynan Pearson of 343 Industries. I figured I'd go ahead and make a thread in which we can post the new walkthrough every Tuesday and Thursday.

I'll keep the OP updated with each walkthrough as they release.

WEEK 1

TUESDAY: Abandon (new map reveal!)
Waypoint said:
On the remote world of Erebus VII, at the very edge of human-occupied space, an ONI research facility which was once teaming with researchers now lies eerily vacant. Although the hostility of this world had been initially considered by its team leaders, it is tragically clear that a great many ‘things’ had simply not been taken into account.

Gameplay-wise, Abandon plays much like the visual theme: claustrophobic and frantic, with danger lurking around every corner. It is a small map with lots of close quarters fighting; however, mid-range and long-range fights can be found in select locations. If you’re a fan of mid-range engagements, stick to the natural side of the map until you pick up your initial ordnance. Then you can go in, guns blazing.

WEEK 2

TUESDAY: Adrift
*Adrift is an abandoned mining platform and appears to be good for 4v4 or 5v5 battles.

THURSDAY: Complex

WEEK 3

The build-up to launch is going to be brutal.

Seeing a screenshot that looks like Backwash evokes an instant "noooo no no no" but the map looks solid for FFA and some objective gametypes.

I love the atmosphere of this map, the environment is stellar. That said, another UNSC themed map? And this one seems to be using the same assets that the Forge demo did...hm..

I really think those are Forge pieces.

Hope the campaign co-op is good. That's been the reason I've bought every Halo game, and only ODST let me down.

Looks nice, but the video got me to thinking. Have they mentioned objective gametypes like 1-Flag, King of the Hill and Assault returning? One of the podcasts following the GameInformer reveal mentioned they were focusing a lot on improving objective gameplay. Would hate for those to be left out.

If one flag and assault were to disappear than any hope of Terminal returning would have been vanquished. I can't have that on my conscious mind.

They haven't acknowledged any of those gametypes. It's a bit worrying that when the guy from IGN asked if the map was good for those gametype the 343 employee mentions talks about how great it's for Slayer, Flood (Infection) and Regicide instead of actually responding to the question.

But 343 wouldn't remove them, right?
...right?

I will wait. I am tempted to look into it, but want to just experience this game fresh. At this point I mostly know there is more orange than purple. I am not sure if I am alright with this decision, but other than that, i know nothing and don't want to.

Hearing people mention Backwash made me hesitant but watching that video didn't.

Map looks to have a good flow and lots of interesting areas to control in the center structure.

I hate how this game comes out in November. Should have been out last month. :(
The later the better for me. Not even done BL2 yet, and still have AC3 to finish as fast as possible. Gonna have to get 'em done or put 'em aside indefinitely when Halo comes out.

Flood mode walkthrough, with commentary from MP design lead, on Solace.

http://www.ign.com/videos/2012/10/02/halo-4-flood-multiplayer-mode-walkthrough

New additions since the Reach Infection mode:

Flood armor skin on infected (we knew this)
Armor abilities can be updated on the back end on a per-playlist basis, which is why the Flood's thruster pack is more effective
Flood with have armor abilities, currently thruster pack, camo and Promethean vision (I think)
"Floodsasination" (not shown)
Mode will check who has spawned as Flood, distribute spawns evenly across players so everyone gets a shot as Alpha Flood
Six maps in the Flood playlist at launch
Dynamic music as the rounds progress

FUCK YEAH!!! Finally!
Zombies in Halo 3 and Reach sucked if they used random alpha zombie.

Beatiful map by the way, Abandon that is.

343, redesign the Flood model to make it so it's not smiling at me. Oh, and make it actually look like Flood while you're at it.
Thanks in advance.

Not that I'll be playing the gametype much, it looks like it plays pretty much the same as before.

Fun and Good to know. It will make for a more interesting Flood mode. The new map looks great too!

Do we have info on all 3 Forge maps?

I've seen the map from the first "on stage Demo" but not the other two.

Not sure how I feel about this map, to be honest. I'll reserve my final judgment until I've played the map, but I'm kind of afraid.

The map is not only similar in aesthetics to Complex and Solace which means this specific environment is being overused, but there's too many tight corridors like Adrift which means Boltshots, Melees, Hammers, Shotguns, Scattershots, and Swords are going to dominate the gameplay.

Again, I'll wait until I've played a few matches on it, but I'm skeptical for now.
