Is TitanFall kinda being pushed on us?

Ok I wanted to put "shoved down our throats" instead of "pushed on us" but figured the title would be too inflammatory.

After all the E3 nominations and awards TitanFall has received and the sort of tepid reaction to that among gamers, does anyone else feel like the gaming media is pushing this on us hardcore as the next big thing? Think of it like with Hollywood films and how studios and media many times manufacture the next tentpole film with tons of hype and marketing.

From all the E3 Awards threads I've read where TitanFall is dominating the awards people have basically said "really?" and I agree. It looks great and I can't wait to play it but I can say the same thing about a bunch of other games shown so why TitanFall got so many noms and awards? I just found it a little strange, like we're getting blitzed with this game so it manufactured into the next blockbuster.

Maybe someone else can describe what I'm trying to say more clearly.

It is quite "buzzy". Most folks I talk to seem to think it will be amazing, so I guess the hype surrounding the public's interest might have something to it. MS sure is hoping so!

No. If I don't want to buy it I won't and there won't be any repercussions or objections. If the press liked it then the press liked it. I'm more annoyed by the "but have you see Titanfall?!" posts.

I've been thinking the same thing. I mean, it didn't look bad by any means, but there were so many other games that looked better (in the same genre even!).

Most people I know thought it was among the best games shown, not really sure what's up with the hate on GAF.

no. it legitimately looks like an awesome game.

I agree too. It looked cool but nothing innovative with its appearance very similar to COD, but with mechs. Sci-fi cod if you will.

Yes. In the sense that every big ass budget game is pushed on us.

Its Call of Duty with robots.

Big massive war robots with a design flaw which means they can be disabled with your bare hands....

Whats not to be excited about?

+100's all round!

I think mostly the audience reaction has been low because we haven't actually got our hands on it, yet.

I mean, honestly, to me, nothing about it is terribly exciting. It really does look like just another FPS to me, but, I'm not ready to write it off yet without experiencing it, first-hand.

I am having a hard time struggling to see what's so special about it, though.

Not really. I'm usually annoyed by the kind of hype that's spawned by gaming outlets, as well, but the game does look rather promising. It's very much a game, everything you do seems in a delicate and dynamic balance with what you could have done instead.

EDIT: What I'm saying is that it being pushed on us isn't entirely unwarranted. But, yes, I'm not going to read a single article about it anymore.

I like that it runs on the source engine but that's where the list of things I like about it ends.
It's being marketed to hell and back, what happened to new IP's getting word of mouth and a reputation after being released, you know, for being good.

Now it's lauded as the next big thing before it's out, just because of all the money thrown at it.

Funny, I wanted to say something similar a few days back but I knew I'd just get shoved down some stairs.

Normally you have a community excitement over games or a general gaming journalistic buzz but there's something about TitanFall, I've heard some mixed stuff about it, seen lots of these "Reminds me a bit too much of Call of Duty" but it still feels like forced marketing, like there's this fabricated buzz surrounding it.

I can't put my finger on it.

The difference here being that we haven't played it yet. I guess it also plays as smooth as it looks and therefore it was the most appealing game to many of the critics. Don't see why that would be a problem. Also I can't think of another game that would deserve the win far over TitanFall.

Titan Fall's surging popularity is partly down to the shortage of 'must-have' titles at launch for either platform. It has filled the vacuum of rather disappointing E3 when it comes to those who were looking for reasons to be excited about this fall.

There's always one game each E3 that gets most of the attention.

On this one was Titanfall.

I don't see any difference.

Personally I haven't seen any coverage that is out of the extraordinary about the game.

I wasn't aware that it won the best game of E3 prize on many sites... to me Destiny was a much more interesting game.

But yeah lately I am watching a lot of "manufactured" gotys and best game ever by the media.

I'm interested in checking out and I do think it looks cool.

HOWEVER it is being marketed already like it's the second coming of christ.

Just because it's from Respawn doesn't mean it's automatically going to be the biggest thing ever. I'll wait till its out to reserve my judgement.

I can't help but be reminded of Major Nelson's quote where he says "Have you seen Titan? Conversation over".

It definitely feels like its being pushed on gamers.

What is the gaming media's pay-off for pushing Titanfall in this case?

Do stories/news flashes about CoD generate millions of hits and they want teh same for TF? MS/EA moneyhats? Setting up drama over "the new game from the makers of CoD vs Ghosts" later this year?

Honest question.

I saw more hype for TitanFall among the people than any other game. People think it looks good - simple as that. The press agrees.

That said, I do think that EA is going to oversell this game like a motherfucker. Prepare for 300 different pre-order bonuses, excessive previews, and a new dubstep-filled trailer every week.
