Which game will help the Wii U more, Smash Bros or Mario Kart 8?

These 2 are my most anticipated games coming up. I love both series dearly. Which do you think will help sell more Wii U units?

Smash bros is more helpful, I think.

Mario Kart 8 is... well... could met same fate as 3D world...

But both failed scenario is more likely.

I don;t think any of those 2 will save the wii u but i think it atracks different demographics to the wii u

Kart: more Casuals oriented
Smash: more Hardcore oriented

both will be minor though.

Mario Kart should since the last console one sold 30+ millions, but with the Wii U's curse, it'll bomb horribly like every other game released until now.

Probably Mariokart 8. If I remember, Wii did better than Brawl. Plus Smash is being simultaneously released on the 3DS. It's a different version, yes, but since both versions of Smash are being released around the same time period, I can see people just going with the 3DS version.

Mario Kart's got a broader appeal, so it will probably help more...

To the degree that the console can be helped anyway.

If i want to be realistic i'd say neither, if we are talking of which one will sell better i'd say MK8.
But sales be damned, both are gonna be awesome, can't wait (mostly for MK8 :P ).

Neither will give it a huge push hardware-wise (aside from maybe a month's worth of good sales), but Mario Kart 8 will sell more. It's appeal is far broader than Smash Bros.'

Historically, Mario Kart has brought more consumers to Nintendo platforms since it's more casual oriented than Smash. It will be interesting to see if it can do the job again.

never was a big mario kart fan, me including my friends growing up would just play it when it came out, but stop after 2 weeks or so. Unlike Smash which we would play for years

for me Smash is way more hype and exciting that fucking mario kart. Smash did outsell Mario Kart back on gamecube ;d ..but in wii casual generation, kart surpassed smash cause they fucking bundled it after a year with a wii which = sale explosion and they never did bundle Brawl :p

but anyway since there is a fucking 3DS version, Smash's wii u sales won't reach it's high potential

Mario Kart, just look at the numbers for the previous games compared to Smash Bros.
Everyone has heard of Mario Kart, not many have heard of Smash Bros. :x

Mario Kart 8 would always help more ...but Smash being on 3DS will severely damage the chances of the Wii U game pushing systems at all (especially in Japan).

I don't actually think Mario Kart 8 will give Wii U a major boost in May /June...I think a Mario Kart 8 bundle in November (with another $50 off the Wii U price and another marketing push for the game) will have far more impact.

I think it's gonna be Smash this time around. Without that Wii Sports audience, Mario Kart Wii doesn't sell 30 million.

Melee was the best selling game on GameCube by far. I think we'll see something similar with Smash 4 and Wii U.

:x

Back on gamecube, Melee was the best selling game for the system, surpassing Mario kart double dash :P. Only reason kart sold that high on wii is because it became bundled with the system after a year + it had a gimmicky wheel controller that wow'd the casuals. , which MK8 won't

Mario Kart 8 is the last tried-and-true franchise Nintendo can bring to the Wii U that can cause the most visible splash.

Smash may have a diminished effect since it will also be on 3DS. But you never know, the series is big with the hardcore crowd and if the casual won't answer towards Kart, maybe the hardcore audience will answer to Smash.

Melee could have easily been considered a Gamecube launch title the way it lived up to it's close launch window so in that scenario you could make the claim that Melee benefited from bolstered hype and launch numbers in the Gamecube's infancy.

Yep, and another important thing to remember is that Mario Kart Wii also sold incredibly well because casuals already owned a Wii. I don't see many casuals buying a Wii U just for MK8. Whereas the people who like Smash Bros. are the kind of people who are likely to buy a system for it.

At this point, it could go either way.

Mario Kart Wii sold 1 extra millon last year, right? (Or was it last quarter?) I think MK8 will sell much more units than Smash.

I doubt Smash has much impact at all, it's a very hardcore game, for Nintendo fans. A small group for sure.

Mario Kart appeals to anyone, but unlike Wii, people don't want to own the console that plays it.

Both wont do much.

At this point, people would get either because they have a Wii U. Unfortunately, it won't really encourage people to get one.

that's nice and dandy but Mario Kart 64 destroyed SSB64, it could go either way.

also, MKW sold over 20 million before being bundled in any form. the bundle happened over 2 years after it had been released.

i'm leaning towards MK8 selling more because SSBB left the SSB series in worse shape than MKW did to the MK series. plus, MK has been more popular historically. SSBM only won in the GC era because it was the most popular game in the series and MKDD was shit compared to the predecessors and sucessors.

Kart.

I went to D and B this weekend and people were lining up for the Mario Kart DX.

The question Nintendo's mind is, should they bundle it or not?

It's going to be smash I guarantee it.
Sure the facts don't seem to suggest that but WiiU is so much in the whole that the huge and dedicated fanbase of smash I say is going to help more.
Sure Mario Kart has broader appeal but I don't see people who have skipped on the WiiU finally buying one because of MK8.

They're both already selling Wii U consoles, ask current owners which one influenced them more. Sales will be flat when they release, ignoring price drops and bundles.

.

small group? ..with Melee being the best selling gamecube game with over 7million + units sold and brawl over 10million copies sold? with Brawl being NOA's fastest selling title with 2.7 million copies sold in it's first month? don't think so ;d
