I annotated the translations for the following graphic:

All numbers are revenue numbers. Remember "Milliarden" is billion in english.

PC market is big but no where near as big as the console one.

Seems like our industry is in pretty good shape. Great numbers all around. Schlaaaaand.

Now if only we could get some more decent development houses. I hate to see old timers working on web and F2P crap.

I'm surprised by the used and import segment numbers. Didn't expect it to be that close to the PC. Handheld numbers are just sad imho.

The Console Used and Import segment is the third biggest segment, and Handhelds are bigger than Smartphones.

The casual online stuff most probably also includes revenue generated on other platforms.

I'd assume they are talking about things like kongregate, Facebook, etc games which are separate from their mobile app brethren due to flash not being present on mobile devices.

Consoles and handhelds don't even enter as the browsers are still relatively slow compared to a PC browser.

But these games also have app counterparts that are free to download, and playable with the same accounts as their PC counterparts. Can't check the source here to see how that is calculated.

I liked it more when it was in Leipzig to be honest.

Thats totally right. Leipzig is still DDR and not Germany :D Just kidding ;)

That we are the biggest Gaming country in Europe is surprising, because our Games are fucking expensive and a lot of them are cut. And we get screwed a lot because of our Laws for "protection of the youth". Some of them are plain stupid.

Would be interesting to see these splits over the years.

Anyway, UK market is around 2.62, so it's no a huge lead. Especially considering Germany's population is ~30% more than the UK's.

Kinda sad that our development houses are pretty small.
Crytek,Yager and alot of PC only developers (mostly adventures).

And all the fucking f2p and mobile developers who are grabbing the biggest chunk of talent off the market.

The numbers are retrieved by an external dutch market research company and they claim that their data is "all-embracing" which also includes Steam sales (at least from the larger publishers)

yeah we rock hard!
but joke aside, whenever I visit a friend or family, there is almost always at least one console and a nice little collection of games.

It seems like if they put all the best talent into one two studios, you would have a real heavyweight on your hands.

Germany is Europe’s largest market in terms of game revenues generated, just ahead of the UK. German gamers generated $3.7 billion dollars (€2.7 billion euro) in 2013, excluding tax and consumer-to-consumer trading. Year-on-year growth of the market amounted to almost 5%. The key differentiator with the UK is the share of gamers spending money: 70% of 39.8 German million gamers versus 62% of 34.7 million UK gamers. The German payer/player ratio across all market segments is actually the highest in the world. On a global scale, Germany comes in at number 4 on the revenue rankings, behind the US, China and Japan. TV and handheld consoles still take the largest share with 56% of all revenues, followed by 24% for PC/MMO gaming. Smartphone and tablet gaming took 11% leaving 9% for online casual and social gaming.

German GooglePlay spending to surpass iOS in 2014
In 2013, German mobile gamers generated $405 million dollars (€290 million euro) in revenues with over 80% of this coming from free mobile games. What sets Germany apart from other large European markets is the accelarated growth of GooglePlay game revenues versus those generated on iOS devices. If this trend continues, German GooglePlay spending will surpass iPhone and iPad speding within several months. Only Spain shows a comparable trend. In the UK and France, iOS remains way ahead thanks to the success of gaming on the iPad. The slow adoption of tablet gaming in Germany can be further seen in the app store country rankings where Germany sits at #8 in the iPad game revenue chart, significantly behind Russia for example.

6.7 million German gamers play on all four screens
16.8% of the German gamers play on all four screens: the Computer, Personal, Floating and Entertainment Screen. The Computer Screen is relatively popular in Germany with 92.7% of all gamers playing on it. Although quite a lot of the German gamers play on the personal screen/smartphone (68.7%) – the slow adoption of tablet gaming is the reason why the Floating Screen (30.8%) is relatively unpopular. Gaming on the Entertainment Screen or TV is in-between with 57% of gamers.
