The character you use in the SP campaign is the same you use in Chaos Squad.

Night defense is when the actual co-op stuff happens:

Night Defense
This is where you will fend off enemies and protect your vats of Overcharge at one of many forts across the city by not only using your weapons, traversal, and amps – but by placing traps, as well. Before each wave – you’ll have a bit of time to place your traps, but if you made a horrible calculation, you can move and place them during the waves, as well.

And then – the enemies attack. And what comes next is an assault of 8 players simultaneously jumping, shooting, grinding, and exploding nearly every damn thing in sight. Each wave brings an increasingly difficult and new variety of enemies to your door. And, remember, the more Chaos you gathered in the open-world missions – the harder it’s going to be.

I think as you're voting, you can mess around in the rest of the world before Night Defense happens. Niiiiice.

Do they not have campaign co-op? That's a bit disappointing if so. I don't particularly enjoy horde modes but running through a campaign with a friend is always amusing.

That being said, 8 player horde mode is interesting because it's usually 4 players.

You always have an ongoing mission. I have to be vague, obviously, but sometimes it's something cooperative (everyone kill this guy); sometimes it's a little more competitive (get more kills than your buddies), and then as soon as you complete that objective it brings up a screen and let's you vote between two options: Mission A or Mission B.

Each option gives you an amount of Chaos and some kind of benefit for the final night defense. An example of the choice you'd face:

Mission A
* Chaos 100
* Do more damage to a type of enemy
Mission B
* Chaos 10
* Everyone is immune to fire

You get a better benefit with mission B, but you get way more chaos with Mission A.

After running around the city causing chaos, it then transitions into the night defense.

There is way more to the co-op than just the Night Defense. It's last part of Chaos Squad. You and your team vote on a variety of missions to do in the open world first. And you take them on together. What you decide to do determines the difficulty and reward output of the end Night Defense.

Just want people to be sure they see the full scope of the co-op.

Edit: Whoops! Sniped by fark. He explains it better.

Will there be a stream of the coop?

It sounds interesting, I love coop gaming (Bordelands 2) but this seems like it may take some of the repetition out of the coop where you end up doing the same section again and again for a good drop.

This sounds amazing.

What happens if you fail a mission? Does night defence start or can you not fail them?

You must make it through all the missions to reach Night Defense. Even if you fail you still receive rewards -- I can't get into that, or how it works -- but you get less than if you had made it to, and finished, night defense.

If I remember correctly, the rewards/weapons you get in multiplayer can be brought back and used in single player.

I keep trying to not preorder this game, but they keep making it too difficult! I don't even own an XB1. I've been holding out for a 'special edition' or white model, so I hope they announce one soon so I can get my preorders in.

Just put my preorder in, I wish digital copies were competitive in price to amazon etc as I want to go fully digital, but I can't stand paying £10 for a game...

Wow the whole thing sounds great.
The daytime stuff is a lot like GTA 5 multiplayer, explore the open world doing missions.
Then the night time, it's like a horde mode activity. You're rewarding depending on the difficulty of the missions you did during the day.

So pumped!

I was already sold on the single player and now they reveal 8 player co-op? This game will wreck all my free time later this year.

Nice risk/reward implementation. I like it.

its real

I heard one of the developers say that theirs loot in this mode. ANybody have anymore details on that?

At the end of Chaos Squad you get a chance at a collection of loot in the form of spinners (sorta like a slot machine). The number of spinners you get depends on various factors -- including, but not limited too, the amount of Chaos you built up, which is why it's important -- and each spinner gives you a chance at something good.

Even if you don't make it to Night Defense, you're always guaranteed to have at least 1 spinner; you're never left empty handed.

I can't say what the loot is, exactly, but speaking generally there are small prizes, like cash, and there are much better rewards, like weapons.
