Braid 'may hit PSN after timed exclusivity, but not Wii' - Braid Creator

Jonathan also mentioned that a Wii Ware version just will not happen because of the download size of the actual game is just too large for the Wii’s internal storage, a complaint we have heard many times from many developers.
So... maybe when the Wii gets a storage solution?

:(

For some reason, people seem to look down upon downloadable titles no matter how good they are. It's sad :(

Welcome to the plight of the portable gamer.

I was about to pick up some points this week just for braid but I guess I'll wait.

huh?

from this i gather that

1) you have an X360
2) you also have a PS3
3) now that the PS3 version is coming in 12-18 months time, you'll not get the X360 version.

erm.... why?

the "this is waiting" thing is supposed to be a piss take, not an order! ;)

Is it kind of sad that I was going to say that "Braid could have easily been $30-$40 portable game"?

I feel bad now :(

I'm don't know much about braid, so i'm actually NOT sure if it could be done on portables.

Did not read the article and now feels dumb.
12-18 months. Fuck that shit. :lol
I thought it would be a 1-3 month exclusivity deal. Guess I'll pick some points up after all, might aswell get the long overdue Rez with it.

Hmm. I wonder how big the game would be after reducing all the art to SD quality?

Anyway, I guess I'll get it for the PS3 when I get around to getting one.

Probably would still be too big, there are six or seven (fairly lengthy) music tracks in the game.

Waiting for a possible PSN port is idiotic when everyone posting in this thread has a PC that can run the game. The chances a port will ever be released are pretty low. Very, very few XBLA games get a PSN port when the exclusivity has expired because the sales of a belated port wouldn't justify it. Joust and Castlevania: SotN are the only XBLA games released on PSN, and Penny Arcade Adventures is the only XBLA game confirmed to be getting a PSN port. ESRB leaked a few others from Sierra, but those were probably all canceled by Activision, and Prince of Persia Classic, and the only reason that one will make it is to tie-in with the new retail game.

Look, you don't want it to go on PSN or for people to buy it on PSN -- we get it. You don't have to keep repeating your message.

This game has PSN written all over it, wonder why it didn't make it PS3 first.

EDIT: Appears it has already been answered.

great news for PS3 only guys if it does get ported but its gona be one bitch of a wait before it can even me confirmed.

Actually, I dont have a pc. I browse gaf on my wii. So it would be nice if Nintendo would allow apps to be run off of external storage so I can give a damn about their download service.

How much is it on Live?

$11.25 for me. (Target point card sale + no sales tax on cards in CA)

I thought he wrote Braid in C++, not in XNA (a variant of C#) so the game could easily be ported to any console/platform.

XNA isn't really a language... it's more of a framework for C#...

Hopefully it will have extra content.
Was gonna get it on PC, will wait for PSN now.

No it won't, he has ruled out DLC, extra levels or a sequel already.

Seriously, waiting 2 years for a possible port of a downloadable game is nuts if you own a PC or 360.

Well, think of it this way -- some of us won't get it UNLESS it's on PSN. End of story. Now you can go hang out with that other NO WAIZ WAITING dude in the corner.

Nothing wrong with not owning a 360 or PC (hence my use of the word IF), but people saying they are waiting for a PSN port would imply that there was another option other than for them to wait, otherwise it is kind of a meaningless statement.

In order to put it on PS3 there has to be extra content. It's part of Sony's deal or whatever.
Nothing wrong with getting it for PC, but I guess it would be nice to have it on my TV without hooking up the HDMI to DVD cable.

And if the exclusivity agreement is really 2 years, then I'd probably download it on PC.
When is the PC version coming out?

DCharlie said:
you get an extra wait, why are you PS3 fans so greedy?! ;)

Hey, I waited for Bioshock too! :lol
I wanted to play it on PC but my computer just wouldn't run it well enough, so I decided to wait until I upgrade. But lo and behold :lol

It just occurred to me, if XBLA games all have to have exclusivity periods, what's the deal with games like Mega Man 9 and Bionic Commando Rearmed?

Azrael said:
There really isn't. Even if you're not a multiconsole gamer, you have a PC that can run this game.

And what if you don't own a Windows-based system ? And what if you don't want to play on a small screen when you have a huge HDTV plugged to the PS3 ?

Anyway, Braid looks like a good game but why is it so ugly ??? I doubt I'll be able to pay 15€ for a game that would make me puke once every two minutes.

It's been mentioned before in this thread as Capcom gets a free pass for this sort of thing(See also: Joint Strike, SSF2THD, etc)

Jesus fucking Christ, are you serious? What does "fit for retail" mean?

I have no idea what it means either. Braid works really well and makes sense as a digitally distributed game, but it'd still be good as a sensibly priced retail release.

Oh and it bears mentioning that referring to a game as "XBLA caliber" or anything similar to that is completely idiotic. Many of the games available on these download services have more depth and thoughtful game design than your $60 cutscene fests with the crapass multiplayer and steroid junkies saving the world from alien terrorists.

Interesting news. I was going to pick up Braid as soon as my 360 returned from being repaired, but now I guess I'll pick up Braid as soon as my 360 returns from being repaired (Which was today! Woo!)

The only reason I can see for this changing anyone's mind is the shitty state of storage on the 360 (damn you, Microsoft...)

Capcom is powerful enough that they can negotiate a better contract. I'm sure other big publishers could too, but they've probably concluded it wasn't worth the the trouble to fight for. Now that Capcom has opened the door, it's possible other major publishers will release their games on XBLA and PSN simultaneously, but for indies and small developers, exclusivity contracts are still going to be the norm.

Bah! What is this XBLA calibre title? Surely it is not fit for retail!

If they put REZ HD on disc, people would still have bought it

If this ever comes out on psn and they add new levels i am going to buy this again day one. I loved the game i just started over because
i beat the game before knowing about the stars so now i am doing a star run.
great game.

I wonder who he initially spoke to over at Sony. If it was Prof. "Quality Over Quantity" who's running the PSN 1st party publishing arm then, LULZ.
