CARTOON NETWORK/WARNER

Street: Jan. 20
Prebook: now
> Long-awaited complete set of the popular Cartoon Network show.

The Powerpuff Girls creator Craig McCracken liked the term “whoop ass” so much that he decided to name his animated series about three kindergarten girls with super powers “The Whoop Ass Girls.” But somewhere along its journey to Cartoon Network fame, the name was changed to “The Powerpuff Girls.” This story, along with many others, is detailed in the new featurette “Who, What, When, Where, Why, How … Who Cares?” in this DVD set, which celebrates the TV show’s 10th anniversary. This complete compilation contains all 78 episodes from the show’s six-year run, the movie T’was the Fight Before Christmas, commentaries, “The Powerpuff Girls Rule!!!” 23-minute special and many extras that were already included in the 2007 DVD release of season one, including “The Whoops Ass Girls: A Sticky Situation” featurette, shorts and a CNN interview with McCracken. But the real draw of this set is the release of the entire series.

Shelf Talk: Because there has only been the season-one DVD release of The Powerpuff Girls series, this set should be a hot seller. It will be helped by a targeted marketing campaign through the Cartoon Network and its popular Adult Swim cartoon block, a day-long Powerpuff Girls tribute showcasing the best episodes and the TV premiere of a new animated special by McCracken.

Animated, color, NR (nothing offensive), 1,745 min., DVD $59.97
Extras: documentary, commentaries, movie, series promos, commercials, shorts, featurettes, more
Director: various
First Run: November 1998
All-Day Marathon of one of the greatest shows in the glory days of Cartoon Cartoons + a new episode at 8 tonight. There also will be a Top Tenn Villain countdown starting at Noon, Mojo Jojo wins or I riot.

*sigh* I had almost forgotten what amazing 2D animation looked like :D

I dunno. Him was a crazy villain.
But Him didn't have a depressing backstory.

(Also, Bubbles!Mojo > everything.)

Adds OP to XMas card list for next year. SET GET.

Miss this show soooo much. Got my Goddaughter into it a couple of years ago with the dvds. Just called her and told her to tune in.

10:30 AM EST - Paste Makes Waste

Synopsis: Elmer eats paste, turns into paste monster.

Interesting Note: Not sure if it has a super interesting moment... does show Floyd and Lloyd as Mitch Mitchelson's lackeys' and I don't think they ever appear again.

Suprising moment: Buttercup hurling past at Elmer and owning him in the face. Yep, that's it. Very average episode.

10:45 AM EST - Ice Sore

Synopsis: Blossom develops new Ice Breath power, kinda goes overboard.

Interesting Note: None.

Suprising Moment: Nothing, average ep.

10:30 AM EST - Criss Cross Crisis, 30 minute ep.

Synopsis: Professor's Invention mixes up all the inhabitants of Townsville into other bodies.

Interesting Quote/Note: Too many to count, but look out for when Mojo turns into a fish and goes "DANG"

Suprising moment: Look for all the cameos/appearances of enemies/etc.

EDIT: Ms. Bellum makes an AWESOME black prostitute. :D

whats the story on why it stopped? Not even wiki has a real answer.
I believe it was a combination of three things:

a) Had been on for like 5 years, almost every day at several points.
b) Once a cartoon does a movie rarely does it continue to be largely successful.
c) Gennedy Tartakovsky was blowing up with multiple projects by then and the other major guys (i.e. Chris Savino) were moving on.

Ooh, will buy that complete series.

How come CN doesn't give this kind of attention to Dexter's Lab? They've never even released a single DVD of Dexter 'toons. That's ridiculous.

Also, is there an isolated musical score for the PPG Movie floating around anywhere (NOT "Songs Inspired by")? Some of that stuff was amazing, the opening credits in particular.

I thought Gendy was focusing on Samurai Jack and the Clone Wars cartoons by that point. Wish he'd bring it back in short bursts along with Dexter's Lab.

Can't wait for Uh Oh..Dynamo at 6. Fav ep of mine by a mile.

rofl I'm sorry but even back then PPG was recognized for having very basic animation. When they would fly they would just take the cels sometimes and zoom them across the screen.

The movie bombed. That plus wanting to move onto other projects I think is what killed the franchise.

I can't believe this shit is 10 years old. This means it came out when I was 15? I feel like it's older even than that! Such a great cartoon, too.

I wish they'd get rid of some of the shit they are trying to push and bring it back, along with Dexter's Lab, Robot Jones, and Sheep in the Big City (SUCK MY DICK HATERS).

my favorite episode is when the gangreen gang breaks into the mayor's office and get the ppg to kick everyone's ass/bother everyone when no one was doing anything.

seeing fuzzy lumpkins taking a bath, him doing jazzercise and mojo doing whatever he was up to on their time off just tickled me.

I cracked up, too! :lol Gosh, I miss this show. Despite the expenses, I'll definitely have to pick this up sometime soon. I'm finally purchasing all of the Miyazaki DVDs that I don't yet own but have seen with friends, so I'm already spending a fair amount. (And may I say that finding the 2-Disc Collector's Edition of Grave of the Fireflies for a reasonable price is darn near impossible. It's not Miyazaki, I know, but it's still incredible.)

God, I thought I was the only one who liked Sheep in the Big City :lol

Figures Yankee fans like steamed crap. :D

Simple yet great. Don't have to throw everything in CGI for it to look good, especially if the face of the masses who think "OMG ITS ANIME SO IT AUTOMATICALLY HAS TO BE GOOD!!!"

#4 Princess

Solid pick, I wonder who was #5?

#3 HIM

HIM at #3? I would've thought he was #2...

If anything PPG went on for longer than it should have, the episodes done after the movie were not on par with the earlier stuff at all.

Dexter ended perfectly once but then was resurrected a number of years later with slight character redesigns, a new voice actress for Dexter that always sounded off, and no Tartakovsky or McCracken to direct. It sucked.

Was seeing on the website that the new ep tonight was drawn using the Foster's Home crew and style. Interested to see how it looks. They're supposed to battle every villain.

It was Chris Savino, a former PPG animator. Dexter was affected just as much from less dollars into production value, though.

#1 is Mojo Jojo, but #2 was The RowdyRuff Boys... ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT. They barely would make my Top 10, and only like 8 or 7.
