Project CARS Career mode intro video

So long as the delay means more polish that's fine by me. Could sink some serious time into this game, can't wait.

I'm liking what I see from the career mode. Watching other videos, it looks like there will be a season mode with event calendar for the career. I hope the season is more about placing high and racing your line. I am not a huge fan of three lap races and having to ram your way into to the front and really only first place matters.

They've been working on this forever. I remember the lead designer Andy Tutor making announcements back in 2010 about this title!

You have practice and qualifications for every race week-ends on the calendar.

The first tiers are 2-3 laps races but they get longer as you progress in the career. Later on you even have forced pitstops during the races which is great.

Genuinely believe this game will see me through until Christmas.

(along withe the fact I have FC4 and DAO to finish...)

Though I've got Project CARS I've not played it property: can you extend that off the bat?

You can't really have a race over 2-3 laps in a sim, you'd probably get a position before the race is over unless you fancy Maldonado'ing everyone.

No SMS started working on CARS during the summer 2011 after the Shift2 developpement/support . They opened the public funding later in november

Looks cool. I typically don't do much 'career mode' stuff in racing games, but I might just give it a go with this one due to the nice variety of cars and tracks.

That said, I must nitpick LMP1 being a higher tier than Formula A. If Formula A is supposed to be an analogue to Formula 1, it should be the highest tier.

It's just the way the career progress. The first tiers have shorter races and they get progressivly longuer as you progress through the career.

Depending on the class you also get different structures. For example some classes will have one practice, one qualif and one race. Others will have once practice, one qualif and 2 races (one sprint and one main), etc.

Now that I think about it, you might be able to change the lenght of the races? I'm not sure. I know you can adjust the lenght of the practices.

Debatable heh... I kinda agree but at the same time I don't necessarly dissagree with them. In their eyes winning the 24h of LeMans is more prestigious than winning F1 which I can kinda see.

The fact that they don't have the actual F1 license probably helped that decision too.

Is the game coming out in April on all the platforms? I am looking forward to a new racer, as I'm almost done with NFS Most Wanted.

I do love pit strategy. I hope we can change the number of laps though.

I've been a backer since day 1, but only yesterday I kind of fixed a problem pCars has with Rift support.

Before then my time in game was limited practice runs to get a feel of the game. But, once I got it fixed I gave career mode a shot. Ended up playing for hours last night. I'm still in the Karting division, but got lots of invitations to other classes. I feel like I'll be playing this for years.

Career mode is much better than I was expecting!

Since I already copied that image earlier for a tweet... Might as well paste it here too.

One of my favorite gif from the game

Wow. It's almost as if they respect the player's time and are confident enough in their product that we won't want to trade it in. What a novel concept.

I'm not a fan of the calendar style thing. But overall looks really cool. Interested to see if one of the other modes has a more Gran Turismo car ownership feel to it. Graphic design is a bit of a mixed bag as well but whatever.

I cannot wait for this game. This is the only racing game that has me excited this gen. I hope they add production cars somewhere down the line.

It's not really that kind of game.

Is Suzuka in the game?

There was some issue with the licensing so instead they decided to create their own track inspired by Suzuka (called Sakitto).

I gotta say, as much as I LOOOOVE Suzuka, I think I prefer Sakitto now... It's SUPER fast and bumpy. Tons of fun to race around.

This game has all tracks and all cars unlocked from the start. There are no collecting XP, driver levels, purchasing cars and similar things. You pick championship and drive [or drive anything you want in Quick Race/Practice/Online].

Thanks!
I'll probably love Sakitto too, then, but I really wanted Suzuka... Forza 5 already missed it. Hopefully it's gonna be back for Forza 6!

Do they have the LMP one? In any case, I like that the cars look real physically but have made up liveries. A lot more creativity that way.

Oh man, the three career objective modes is a really great structure.

Start from the bottom > Defend the crown > Best of the best

I know the focus overall is on proper racing, but I love the idea of a paid "Track Days" mode/content for production cars on otherwise high-end tracks.

I like racing career games in the vein of Gran Turismo and Forza. The tweaky, collecty, progressy bits appeal to me as much or more than the actual racing. Glad to see there's something at least kinda similar coming to PC. I'm looking forward to it.

They have license for 24hr of Le Mans race and 80% of the LMP2 cars.

They will enable racing that fully simulates this epic event, with 55 cars on the track separated into LMP and GT cars and of course full race duration that will showcase real-time chances of its TOD/weather engine.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTT.

Well, I was planning on taking the 10th and the week after off so at least I have this to play along with Xenoblade and The Show.
For consoles, anyway:

When is Project CARS released?

April 2nd on all platforms in Europe, April 2nd on PC in the US and April 7th on PS4 and Xbox One in the US.
Wii U and Steam OS versions then follow in 2015.

The more I see of this game the more I can't wait for it. Definitely a day 1 purchase for me and nothing is changing that now.

Finally something about the career mode. That is the part i have been wondering about.

Edit: This looks good.

Possibly not for me, is there no progression with tuning? It's just all there from the start? I'm imagining you sign with a new team and suddenly a new range of equipment is available to you.

You can use custom liveries on PC too

Nice. I meant it more in the sense that allowing for custom liveries (even if premade by them) on accurate car models allows for the look of an F1 race much more than say GT did which only had the Ferrari car licensed, and did not offer reskins of the underlying model to emulate a real race with a variety of teams.

I love this aspect of the game. I'll play around in the career mode as long as I'm having fun, but my end game in racers is driving my favorite cars on my favorite tracks and having all of them unlocked is going to be very helpful.

By the way here's the track list in case anyone missed it. It's very diverse and has a couple of point to point tracks, my favorite:
