Nintendo's YouTube Creator Program, 2 Months Later

I would argue that having no way to capture Vita videos hurt its viability.

This policy of Nintendo's does nothing to help.

I must be imagining those Persona 4 Golden LPs

On topic, the idea is interesting to say the least but extremely flawed. Requiring content creators to submit videos for approval means a waiting period and potential lost views, and I don't know whether or not Nintendo will reimburse the ad revenue if it's live and claimed while you wait for approval. Also the split isn't too hot considering that the competition gives 100% revenue and few copyright claims. The split might seem fair for other licensing deals, but Youtube isn't like other deals so the same principle can't be applied. IMO, if they want to keep this, the split needs to be closer to 90/10 or 80/20 at the worst for content creators. But my biggest complaint about this and I've stated this elsewhere is that YouTube ContentID doesn't discriminate Let's Plays from videos that have precedence for Fair Use (reviews, educational videos, parodies and whatnot) so even a video that shouldn't need to use this policy will need the approval and I cannot support a policy like this. I just hope this fails so Nintendo will back off and realize how dumb it is

I think the idea is great but the split that Nintendo demands is too big. When I bothered with Youtube videos and my channel I had some Pokemon videos that I could have monetised. When I intended to start it there was a disclaimer where with several other things was written that I couldn't monetise my videos when if it has recording of a video game. With the NCP smaller channels, who are not in a MCN, seem to get a guaranty that they can monetise the video without any hassle.

As for bigger Youtubers. While I think that being an entertainer on Youtube is a legimitate job they must be aware that they seem to be in a legal grey area and are depended on the good will of the publishers.
But they are also pretty detached. I read boogie's tweets yesterday and he talked about that if Nintendo gave up on NCP the bigger Youtube channels would fix the Wii U's situation. Given that the much of the Youtube scene didn't give a crap about Nintendo and the Wii U even before NCP I doubt they are just waiting to release videos about Nintendo games.

And there seems to be demand in the viewership of boogie, Angry Joe, etc. for videos about Nintendo. And they themself often say that the Wii U has the best line up. But they are refusing to give these games coverage because it makes them less money. I know that they depend on the money for a living but i think what they do is an asshole move.

For me there is no good or bad side in this. Only greed on both sides.

P.S.: Did Angry Joe even tried to do an review for an Nintendo game? Because as far as I know he only uploaded a Let's Play of Mario Party (and Mario Kart I think?).

NoA has apparently stopped sending Josh Thomas review codes because he refused to sign up for the Nintendo Creators Program.

I was reading this, but its strange that he got his Puzzle & Dragons review copy. If the creators program is the reason he didn't get his Splatoon copy that's kinda petty, especially since other outlets not affiliated with it have received theirs, like GameXplain.

Josh Thomas usually gives good reviews to all Nintendo games even if he later bashes them, so it makes no sense not to let him review it early. Then again maybe they read his Twitter and felt he came across too unprofessional.

The e-mail he showed doesn't mention the Nintendo Creators Programs, and as said above other outlets who are not part of NCP have received a review code.

I never like how in these cases there's always someone hiding part of the story or making quick assumptions/conclusions.

It sounds like it was two separate events, the initial Splatoon email, then I'm guessing a further response he didn't post.

They were never going to start. People who don't like Nintendo really don't like Nintendo. This whole thing really changed nothing.

Pretty much the answer to every Nintendo related question.

If you are in, your in. If you are out, you have most likely been out for the better part of the last decade and were not really in the conversation to begin with.

For the record, by the time they presented the forced tablet, I was so over Nintendo bullshit that I could not even get mad anymore; And even I thought that the backlash on the Youtube policy was stupid.

youtubers should give a portion to nintendo.

most of the entertainment provided is due to the games, not the people. it's reactionary.

hopefully other pubs follow suit.

Sounds like more reactionary anger. Just like A- *covers mouth*

But yeah... it sounds like there's a bigger issue going on.

The reason is that their games are not being reviewed/covered/played as much as others. In the internet community where freaking Goat Simulator was a big hit because of youtube gamers, Nintendo games would simply attract much bigger audiences, especially kids/teenagers who watch those videos.

Nintendo games weren't getting the type of youtube support other games did long before the Youtube program. Its not like they were getting a lot of coverage, then it dropped of a cliff. It was never there in the first place.

So I can see where the OP is coming from. What changed? Truthfully? Not much at all. A few angry rants, an example or two, but nothing major at all because no one ever really covered Nintendo in any large form to begin with.

Isn't TBB one of those that always break embargo with Nintendo stuff, or am I thinking of someone else.

Seems he did get a review copy now, though.

I wanted to ask if I had to set up adsense to monetize a channel first then submit the channel to this program

but as I am uploading to a new channel to stick with whitelist only games
I find 3 videos have already been claimed by copyright holder

I submitted an application at least the channel is still verifying

I wanted to do this because of health issues I am stuck at home with lots of time on my hands

I doubt I could ever get anything but Pennies out of this but seeing how fast a Copyright claim and minimization happens SMH Nintendo holy shit dude

I'll get 50 views by the end of the month if lucky what is that worth to them really?

I feel bad for Nintendo lovers who try to make a living out of this

Is Splatoon part of the program? It automatically finds them and monetizes them. That is Content ID at work, I think. "Nintendo", or any particular person there, didn't do it.

Yeah, it's instant. And I don't think it's part of the white list of the creator program.

It sucks, but right now that's how it is.

I wish the application process was just as fast it was really fast now it just pics them up while I am still processing the video

I don't think Splatoon is on the white list they put out. I know Smash Bros isn't as well.

Splatoon is on the Whitelist

I hope they add Xenoblade X as soon as it is release to the whitelist, I created an alt-channel and called it The Blacklist just in case so I can upload Devil's Third Bayonetta and Xenoblade if it gets left out of the program

but the Whitelist also has a full Japanese side that could be great for imports

I am curious how this will work with the "Youtube Gaming" launch

Animal Crossing U is really what I wanted a channel for :(

edit: No Xenoblade Wii or 3D on the whitelist NOT A GOOD SIGN
https://r.ncp.nintendo.net/whitelist/

smh

I found it strange that I got a copyright strike from a video Nintendo itself monetized and today was un-monetized by this copyright claim I understand it is done by the computer program searching for IP matches but this is not working

If the system is so stupid that Nintendo's own videos gets copyright claims by Nintendo /facepalm

so I have to file a dispute just to tell youtube that I did not monetize the video Nintendo did as part of this program

this is a waste of my time now

Everything Nintendo does should be doing should be about making the Wii U a success. Other platform holders see social media as a platform to further their business, they embrace it. Nintendo sees things differently, and it is potentially going to hurt them for a quick buck.

Yeah Nintendo really need to wise up on the power of social media. So many things blow up because a bunch of gameplay videos pop up and big youtubers pick it up.
