Seems like early pics are showing up of designs for a case that includes L2 R2 buttons for the Vita which will be produced by JOETSU Electronics Ind Co.,Ltd.

This particular case will be for the first model of the Vita the PCH-1000 series. Slated for a Winter release, no word yet on the price.

Seeing how this closes down around the Vita makes it already better than some of the other designs which snapping the Vita into the case is necessary.

Such as their previously designed case, as the hardpoints that held the Vita into place felt pretty fragile due to the type of plastic used.

This seems kind of late in the game for something like this, but it's cool to see. How does it actually work, though?

That looks pretty amazing. I gotta say though I finally tried remote play on my phone and honestly I think its a lot better.

Rubber pads that makes the Vita think you are using your fingers on the rear touch pad.

Bottom picture shows a 2000 Vita, not the original model right? EDIT: Ignore me, misread the last paragraph! :/

Yes that model was for the newer units.

Swear to god, first one of these that is actually good, and I'm instantly buying a vita(again).

The previous one was perfectly functional, though the main issues is would not recommend taking the Vita in / out of the case due to the way the hardpoints are designed.

Seriously like the fact that it seems the new model will be a clamshell design. Though the concern is what type of quality is in the build for the insides with the parts that hold the vita in place to prevent rattling / damage to the actual unit itself in terms of scratches etc.

If that issue is solved, this unit should be fantastic for those with the OG models that were left in the cold with the previous release.

Their trigger design worked well enough also, so its not like those really had an issue.

I would really like a 2000 version that closes around my Vita. That's an awesome design. I would never take it off my indoor Vita.

Id imagine they want to jettison all of the stock of the previous model for the 2k on top of seeing how this version is received. If well enough would see them producing a new one for the 2K series as am pretty certain the complaint about the hardpoints was one of the larger issues with the attachment itself which is pretty much solved with this new design.

I have the Vita-2000 version of this, and it's glorious! Total game-changer for PSOne games and Remote Play.

Definitely meant to serve as a more "permanent" add-on, but, considering how incredibly well it works, it's a no-brainer. Will def. buy one for my Vita-1000, too.

What's it called because I'm gonna get one.

The 4gamer's interview says Vita2000 version was quite successful and they're still getting orders.

Yeah, they've said on Twitter a few months ago that demand has been well above their expectations. The grips doing well makes sense, but I still don't know how DekaVita 7 sold out.

I have the current Vita 2000 version, and it is indeed great - the added buttons make PSX games much more enjoyable, and playable. That said, it is a permanent add-on as the little pegs that hold the Vita in place seem fragile, and I daren't risk breaking them. This new clamshell design seems a better solution if it holds the Vita without rattling, or scratches.

Does the current one scratch the vita?

The Vita's circle pad pro? It gives me major CPP vibes. This is kind of a weird thing to just now be making in 2015 when the Vita is kind of... in stasis.

EDIT: How do these work anyways? I know the CPP used the IR port but the vita doesn't have one of those. Does it plug in?

This isn't the first of it's kind and it's also a Japanese product (where the Vita is a bit more resembling of its namesake.)

There is a small scuff on my Vita where one of the pegs grips the unit. It is difficult to put the grip on, and it would not surprise me if it was caused when I put it on. Because of the difficulty of sticking the Vita into the grip, and the fact that the little pegs are fragile, I have not taken it off of my Vita ever since I put it on. If the new clamshell works well, isn't fragile, and doesn't scratch the Vita, then I would consider getting another if they redesign the 2000 model. As it is now, I am happy with the current grip, but it can be improved.

Pressing L2 and R2 triggers the back touchpad, so any game that can substitute L2/R2 for back touchpad can take advantage of this device. And this does not require any battery.

Didn't a lot of games move the L2/R2 prompts from the back-screen to the front-screen recently? I remember remote playing several months ago and being thrown off by it.

where? I think L/R touchscreen works fine for those. As long as you can assign the buttons.

How much was the previous model?

On the back of the handles, for the middle fingers, maybe? Kinda like the paddles on the Elite controller. I don't know how feasible it would be, but damn if I wouldn't love to have it.

But why?
Why not just use the touch pad?

Extremely umcomfortable, even more so for games with extensive use of those buttons and that require you to hold the button for long periods. It is also kinda hard to know where to press. The lack of feedback might also lead to accidental press.
