So I am having the issue detailed here (which seems to be happening to everyone):

So basically what's going on is that something changed in the game or in steam or in the steam controller update that broke the right pad. You can use it to look around, but not while any other button/function is being pressed/used on the steam controller. You can't move and look basically.

You can change the option in steam controls to act as a joystick instead of a mouse, and that allows you to look but it is insanely slow. So I took advice found in one of the above links and edited the settings file (and saved it, and re-opened it to confirm it saved my settings) to change the speed of the look sensitivity. But once I open the game, it's back to normal (slow). And when I look in settings again, the game has reset the settings file....

So right now it seems like I cannot play with the steam controller on this game (which sucks because I bought the SC today and wanted to play MM with it :/), unless anyone has either a steam controller fix or a way to get the damn settings file to actually save?

So it only doesn't work on Mad Max properly anymore or on all games? Maybe try contacting the dev team on Twitter?

Nzyme32 was having an SC problem with that particular game. It's weird because it should just work for any game but nonetheless there's a few that do stuff like this.

Controller works fine on other games, it's just broken in Mad Max specifically. I provided just a few links but there are tons of people online all saying the same thing. It apparently worked perfectly a few months back but then broke somehow and nothing has been done to fix it.

What I can't figure out is why some people are able to "fix" this with the settings file, but mine keeps getting reset by the game...

Hey - so I got really frustrated by this and to the best of my knowledge there isn't a real solution since the game should, and was, working with mouse and gamepad simultaneously, but now doesn't due to some kind of update that broke it about a month back. The option in this scenario would be to use the Mouse-Like Joystick mode, but since there is no sensitivity options in the game for the camera, you get a really crap solution at default.

The best solution is in your own post under the third link

right click mad max in your game library, then select properties, then select local files tab, then click browse local files, open settings file in notpad and change SensitivityPitch and SensitivityYaw to higher values and try in game to see what works for you

It's massively better and very playable. Downside remains that flicking hard is actually going to slow you down more than if you just swipe normally.

I tried this, and confirmed my settings are being saved but once I load the game, it just resets all the settings (which I confirm by checking in the settings file after).... why are other people's settings saving but mine aren't?

Is it because the game can't handle both keyboard/mouse controls and controller at the same time after the update?

Can you set all buttons on the SC to be keyboard controls and see if that does anything?

That would seem to be the case. Which is frustrating given it's advertised as a Steam Controller friendly game and the developer recommended configs ARE kb/m and controller hybrid but... ah well. Should've fixed things when it was part of Humble Monthly at least.

I figured out why I was having issues, I was using .5 in my values for sensitivity in the settings file. Once I used round numbers, it worked.

Still, it's a workaround to something that is straight up broken in the game. :/

actually ran across this issue myself today. wanted to start up the game but I don't feel like going through this workaround, I'm just gonna uninstall it. Wish I didn't get it from humble bundle so i could get a refund or at the very least remove the key from my account so i could give it to someone else.
