ACCOUNTING, A game by CROWS CROWS CROWS and Squanchtendo - Interdimensional VR

The Lab does it? The only game I can think of off the top of my head that does it is Job Simulator. Which parts of The Lab do it?
The one I'm certain about is the sphere slingshot.

Now that I think about it, Fantastic Contraption probably does it as well.
 
One thing I noticed while playing is that the game seemed to use my room space extremely well.

It might just be a coincidence, but it fit so well that I actually believe it does its placement of environmental objects based on the room bounds. If so, this is one of the very few times I've encountered that technique outside of "The Lab".

There was one part
the courtroom
where I had to reach outside of my bounds to get to something. I was just lucky that this boundary was a desk rather than a wall.

I want to say that Richie's Plank Experience does something similar? At least for me, it seemed to orient the virtual area to use the wider portion of my playspace. Could be wrong just seem to match up really well with my physical room.

Chair in a Room is another great example. Should be called Chair in Your Room, because it's so conscious of your space.
 
Haven't used my vive in couple of weeks so I loaned it to my friend... And of course Serious Sam and this comes out when I'm viveless.
 
This game made me laugh way too much! And I'm not the type that is easily tickled.

There is no reason for you not to try this if you have a Vive (unless you don't meet the space reqs). I almost had some game-breaking boundary issues, but I was able to cheat the tracking enough to get past it.
 
OK, that was rather amusing - got quite a few chuckles out of me. It kind of reminds me of Job Simulator, but on rails and with more attention paid to dialog.

I think a lot of the humor would have worked outside of VR, but with VR and tracked controllers you become part of the skit and it's enhanced. Definitely an experience to tack onto the list of free VR things that everybody must try (where possible).
 
Feel bad getting this for free. Wish I could of thrown them a couple bucks at least!

They could copy the approach used with Honey Rose - empty DLC with various amounts for people who want to put something in the tip jar.

Definitely need to meet those minimum space requirements. I tried it out in standing mode and couldn't even reach both filing cabinets in the first scene.
 
All this game did was depress me all to hell knowing we still don't have a full length adventure game of this type or caliber, and probably won't for a long while.

Yeah, some of it would have worked outside VR, but actually physically performing actions like
physically stabbing the King of VR and playing the skeletons
drives it home even more.

Just got finished and this thing is goofy and amazing. Can't wait for the Rick and Morty experience now lol.

I don't know if it was a bug but in the first part where the tree guy starts yelling at you about not picking up the ringing phone he still kept yelling it into my ear when i had already picked up the phone which was pretty annoying.

Did anybody else shoot themselves in the end? Did anything happen after the black screen?

That's supposed to happen and is part of the humor. Also one of the things that wouldn't work nearly as well without VR as it requires easy manipulation of distances from the competing sound sources. That and the pantomiming sells it.

Never got anything after the black screen myself. I think that is a bug myself and the program is supposed to exit. Games shouldn't force you to kill them from the steam overlay.
 
This was actually a good showcase for why positional audio is so important for VR. I did notice the lack of proper audio occlusion at some points. That's something which still needs to be improved -- on the engine level, but also in individual projects.

It's probably pretty hard to do well without a significant performance impact. In terms of workflow, it would probably be most convenient to specify audio occlusion as part of the physical material properties of rigid bodies, but I have no idea if it's actually viable to compute it on that basis.

I mean i get the joke but if he would change from don't pick up the phone when you have picked up the phone to hang up the call or something, it just felt like the game hadn't picked up the fact that i had picked up the phone.

Sounds like a bug, his dialogue changed after I picked it up. Asking who it was and etc
 
This was neat, makes me want a full-scale LucasArts-quality adventure game. I actually lost my hands in-game at one point due to having the SteamVR overlay up during a scene change, so it was pretty funny to start over and speed through the sections I had already seen. You can just stick your head into the desk for the first headset, for example.

Yup, this seems to be a consistent bug. If you have the steam overlay up during a scene change you'll lose your hands.

It's still crazy how uncomfortable VR can make you feel about certain things. There are a lot of examples in this:
the guillotine, shooting yourself, drinking acid, etc
Drinking it? I just poured it over my head. =P The guillotine annoyed me just because I had to get down so low. * Sigh* So much effort just to get my head lopped off... As for the gun, I've "shot" myself in every game that gives me a projectile weapon. Finally it actually did something!

I think it actually works, in that
the game clearly wants to drive home that the "outermost" experience in the game is also VR. I mean, at every level of VR you kill yourself only to end up one more layer out, with a dark headset which you need to take off taking up most of your view. At the end of the game, you kill yourself again, and end up with a dark headset on that you will eventually need to take off ;)

At least that's how I took it.

I mean, at every level of VR you kill yourself only to end up one more layer out, with a dark headset which you need to take off taking up most of your view. At the end of the game, you kill yourself again, and end up with a dark headset on that you will eventually need to take off ;)

At least that's how I took it.

When you put it that way, the black screen after shooting yourself finally makes sense. Now I feel stupid for not noticing that it was an intentional part of the chain.

The game also looks great and gave me one of the most intense senses of presence that I've had. I continually had to remind myself not to lean on objects in the world and once I even started reaching for my cell phone in order to take a picture of a particularly cool moment!!

That got me thinking that being able to take pictures in VR would be pretty cool.

Yeah, it's another point in a long chain of evidence suggesting that using MSAA and a variable supersampling level (e.g. "The Lab" renderer) makes such a huge difference in VR that going with any technology preventing you from doing that is almost a design flaw.

I assume you mean with a virtual camera? Because you can take screenshots (in 3D no less).
