In the name of cohesion, I'd like to ask you guys how you handle these 2 scenarios:

1. Double dips. I recently purchased GTA V for PS4, a game I played extensively for PS3 and beat. Would you count it as -1 for being a purchase, a 0 for just being a new system to play a game you already played, or a simultaneous +1/-1 for a purchase negated by the fact that you already beat it?

2. Quitting games. I've tended to just strike these games from my backlog and remove them. Would you advocate counting it as +1 instead in order balance out the -1 of buying it? In a way I feel like this would cheapen the act of beating other games, but I'm happy to hear your thoughts.

1. I personally don't count it in any fashion if it's something I already beat.

2. I am going to go against what seems to be the norm here, but if it's a situation where I gave it a legit try, did not like it at all, (or if it were to come up that I got to a place where I got stuck and just could not progress at all), then I will give it a +1. At the end of the day, this is just a self-challenge, not for prizes or anything. So if I have a game in my backlog that I played to the point I'm not going to play it at all anymore and am quitting it. I might as well count it as a +1, as it's no longer a backlog game. IMO a backlog game is one that I've bought but still want to play/haven't played.

e.g. Shadow Warrior - got this on a PSN sale. Played for a couple of hours and absolutely hated it. I have zero, I mean zero, desire to play it anymore. Last year I counted it as a +1. Tried it, didn't like it, will never go back.

Flipside - Elder Scrolls Online, I have 40+ hours into this game, have taken a yearlong break, but still haven't completed the "main story" I want to go back to this game and "finish" it so I still count it as part of my backlog.

The Shadow Warrior one is one that will only happen to me a few times a year that I hate a game to the point I don't want to play it anymore ever.

Shadow Warrior 2013 - Got it from a Humble Bundle a while ago and now that I got into all the Doom games I decided to check it out but everything about it from movement to how the guns and sword feel was just off-putting to the point where I absolutely did not want to continue playing it.
 
Finished Bound, it was okay. I liked how the story was told in the end, but the process was kind of boring in the beginning.

Great music and art direction though.

The ending was perfect. Actually the story telling was perfect too, really minimal but everything made sense.
 
I'm doing it. I'm finally playing Nier in anticipation of Automata. You can drift while riding a boar, I'll leave it at that.

Also, I decided to trade in my Xbox One and the few games I had for it. Technically, that eliminates several titles from my backlog, but to award myself those 5 or 6 points seems to go against the spirit of the blitz. So I'll keep my tally at its current number.

So much this. I am currently playing about six games that are at least somewhere in the ~50 hour category. One I have spent 150 hours on and I'm not really close to finished. By juggling these games I've stopped my progress completely and not finished a thing for half a month.
On the other hand, it's gonna feel sooo good when I start beating them.

That's kinda what i'm doing haha, i know that sounds bad, but at that point, I wouldn't have those few games to finish, and no longer have to worry about such a huge backlog anymore.

Doing okay so far. Snagged a few games, but managed to knock out a pair so it's not quite so bad. Going to keep on playing and trying to make a dent in the games I have, though, and one thing is for certain: it is leading to a lot of fun, thankfully :D.

Another good month for me. I knocked out some shorter games that have been sitting in my backlog for a long time that I had no real enthusiasm for. I can't say I've had much fun with gaming for the month, but atleast I won't have to return to them ever. I.e. I wouldn't recommend any of the games played this month.

Will be interesting to see if I end up with any new games for March. I -should- be fine, but Mass Effect will most likely be bought at some point during the year, so we'll see.

When friends are over we play multiplayer games so basically no progress made then, and the odd times that it's just one of my friend that shows up it's still either multiplayer games or our playthrough of Knack that we've slowly going through again after the Knack 2 announcement. But even that won't count as beaten since I already played through it once before.

Want to beat in March (in this order): Horizon Zero Dawn, Nier Automata, Ratchet & Clank (left off pretty early), FFXV (left off at chapter 3 but apparently really overleleved).

Other games I have and really want to get around to that immediately come to mind: Yakuza 0, Gravity Rush 2, Deus Ex Mankind Divided, Infinite Warfare's campaign.

When I have time, I'm going to create a current gen list/score, to better keep me in check and help remind me of certain games that I really wanted to play but haven't gotten around to yet, may help prevent some purchases.
 
Horrible month. Not been in the mood to play at all. I'm amazed that I was able to squish in these three games. Feels really good after a month where I just got annoyed thinking about all the games I weren't playing. Also nice to have some plus points because tomorrow I will start March by getting a minus and all my gaming time will be stolen by Horizon. Why do I suddenly buy so many games? Guh.

My 2017 count is at +7. Not as explosive of a number as last year, but the number is steadily rising, and that's what matters. As for March, against all odds the only game I'm buying at launch is Puyp Puyo Tetris for the PS4... and I only got that because of worries of limited retail copies for that one, and it's not digital on PS4. Next month is Persona 5 month, though, so March is the last month where I can make really good progress for a while.

Off to a rough start for 2017, but there was so much coming out this month and some good sales too. March will be a bit rough as well with the Switch launch, however after that it should slow down a fair bit and Ill have time to make a good dent in my backlog over the summer.... hopefully.

Only bought one game, which was the Halo Wars 2 Ultimate Edition. I had planned on it for a day one buy, but then I canned it. Aaaand then I put it back on again. Close to the end, but this mission I'm currently on is kicking my ass big time. >_<

Was hoping to finish a few more for the month, but otherwise, a not too shabby month.

This month, however, is a big test. Four games coming, one of which with a new piece of hardware with Zelda and one which I plan on double dipping with Mass Effect: Andromeda on PS4/XB1 (I'm going to count this as one entry rather than two) plus Nier Automata next week and Horizon today (but that's for next month).

Bleh. Stupid Kickstarted games coming out and ruining everything. :P

...Hollow Knight is really great, though, so you should all get it!

I probably won't even play Torment for a good while, though, in case they put out an improved director's cut later like they did for Wasteland 2 -- which wasn't compatible with save games of the original, which I had 40 hours on, so I certainly wasn't starting over. Speaking of, I did finally finish Wasteland 2 this month. 93 hours, damn.

March probably won't fare much better, with Horizon and Zelda to get through.

February 2017 (03/02/17): Although it took a handful of hours to beat Abzu, I practically made no progress in the grand scheme as a result of the side-content in Yakuza 0. Thankfully, I've reached a point where they don't stumble into my path whenever I wander down the streets now so I'll prioritize the main narrative and tackle all the extra sub-missions in the post-game mode.

I knew I forgot to post something. I'll make my Update February Post here soon. In the meantime, as of March, i'm working on Fallout New Vegas, and hollllyyy shit, i am taking my sweet time on this one. I played Fallout 3 before, so i know the fallout formula. This time however, i'm going with 1 strength and 1 endurance but all Luck and Agility, so lets see how that goes. If I ever do another run, I might want to get a lot of strength and do a melee run.
 
Kept in the positive in February. March is probably going to be a very different story, as I'll be grabbing a handful of games with the Switch, in addition to NieR and Mass Effect.
