NEOGEO heads to PS3 and PSP December 22nd

Time to put that leftover yen to good use, rebuying stuff I already own!

Only SNK
Playmore
and Capcom can get me to rebuy stuff over and over and over. ugh ~_~

To be fair, the PS2 collection had terrible emulation for some of the games.

I really, really wish I could be excited by this... but I can't be. I've bought and/or owned these games countless times over the years at this point. The thrill has worn off.

I guess my big thing is that as a fighting game fan, there's not much point to always looking forward to SNK rolling through the backlog, just to get to games that I really care about.

I mean, if SNK really wants to floor somebody? How about FINALLY putting SS0 Special on the PSN? That, along with quality netcode, would actually be something people would shout about! :lol

NeoGeo? And they're selling the games separately? I rather have Sega Genesis support for both PS3/PSP.

Go to hell.

The best games on Genesis are arcade ports, and the ports to the Genesis were hackneyed thanks to the limitations of the hardware.

I'd rather SEGA just emulate it's arcade titles proper and leave the inferior console versions to the dustbin of history.

Still don't see why SNK can't do bundles/compilations and then make exceptions for their best games.

Like Sengoku 3. I'd totally buy that on its own. Robo-army, Mutation Nation, Burning Fight, and the other two Sengokus? Put all of them in a package and I'd buy it.

This confuses me, the PSP's OS has NeoGeo support, so why are they enhancing these games when they could offer a direct rom dump for PS3/PSP compatibility? Well, besides trying to get a few people to double dip.

For people bitching about the price: the yen is strong internationally, so internally this isn't that expensive, more equivalent to about $5.

errr, 900 yen is usually closer to $9-10 :P

If they ever brought them to the US it'd be $10.

Kinda pricey. Would have been better with an approach like they did with PCE...one file for play on both systems. Still, Magicial Lord on my PSP!

It's got online play now. Surely that helps?

Yes, to be fair, online support is a big deal. I shouldn't be so down on this. Still, at this point, that only gets exciting for me for things like, say, Shock Troopers, Twinkle Star Sprites, and a few other select titles.

I will wait and see if the online play justifies the price, this is SNK doing the online here. After their past XBLA and KoF 12 tries, I can't be excited just yet.

They look very similar to the XBLA versions. I bet it's using the same emulator.
My thoughts...kinda why it looks underwhelming. The XBLA games are a bit jank. Still, Alpha Mission II and League Bowling have not been released on VC yet, so that is kinda cool. Most excited to be playing these on my PSP. And maybe since it is Japan we might get some of the more rarer titles released...things like Andro Dunos.

They've released videos of the games to their Youtube account, starting with ASO (Find the rest there): ASO II NeoGeo Station

I didn't watch them all myself, but I didn't see any exterior menus or anything, just pure ole game emulation.

It would be very nice for companies to start doing complimations for online download (and play). But eh...

I own basically all the "good" ps2 ports already (shame about bakumatsu)

I submit: "not that bad." Or possibly: "they are my favorite fighting games ever and I'm blind to port failures."

What the fuck are you smoking? :lol

Game Archives titles are generally about 600yen (PS1, PC Engine), with "premium" titles going for 800-1000yen. These work on both PS3 and PSP. Here comes SNK with their shitty pricing charging 700yen for a PSP version and 900yen for a PS3 version of all their NeoGeo titles across the board, and you're saying it's not that expensive? Seriously... :lol

Seeing as though the first games I bought for my US PS3 were Samurai Spirits 1/2/4special and Last Blade 2 from JP-PSN, I wholly support this move! I do hope you can zoom the window.

That said, I'm probably not going to buy many of this initial slate (SS1/MS1 maybe), but if the subsequent waves contains SS2, Super Baseball 2020, World Heroes 2, Bust-a-move, etc I'll be dumping lots of money in SNKP's lap.

BTW: The previously non-functional USA/Europe links are working now
http://neogeostation.snkplaymoreusa.com/na/

And english vids are posted under the snkplaymoreGame YT account

And this is definitely a native emulator for the original game ROM:
“I want to play a NEOGEO Station game exactly as its original version”. NEOGEO Station has not corrected any bug present in the original versions of the NEOGEO games, don’t worry. If a bug that locks up the game occurs, you can return to the game easily just by doing a reset with the RESET function in the PAUSE MENU.
They didn't tweak/tune the game code at all, all known crashes/bugs will be present. This is a good thing!

League Bowling!? Oh fuck! Best bowling game, up there with the Wii Sports one. Nadia cameo doesn't hurt :D

If the PS3 version includes trophies, I'd *probably* get Alpha Mission II or Metal Slug.

It would help if they released the more-modern games that everyone wants, instead of starting from the beginning and essentially following the Wii Virtual Console Neo-Geo release schedule.

Release KOF '98 UM, 2002 UM, NGBC, Garou, etc. alongside these titles. But then if they have the same quality online as most of SNK's titles, never mind. :/

well, the thing is that if netcode ain't good for these old games, they still can fix it for those games everybody is waiting for. btw, i think they patched KOF2k2UM for XBLA, to improve netcode, i don't know however, if the team responsible for the ports is the same.

Yep, and basically with perfect emulation.

It's as if you two guys are the only ones that have a clue

I'll continue enjoying ggpo, complete with lagless online play and live spectating, thanks.

Garou MOTW
KOF98
KOF2002
Last Blade 2
Real Bout Fatal Fury Special
Samurai Shodown V Special
Rage of the Dragons
Sengoku 3

So are these just games on the PS Store or will NEOGEO station be some sort of App on the console which you run the games from?

NeoGeo Station is an app. But I'd like to know the same thing. You will definitely be playing it from the app.

Also that NeoGeo Station US site says that NeoGeo Station is coming out December 21, 2010 in the United States for PS3.

How many of those have online play? Name me a game that is playable on both PSP and PS3 that supports both online multiplayer on PS3 and ad-hoc on PSP.

I'd rebuy Neo Turf Masters again for trophies and online play. I think I have a problem:lol

You can listen to all background music (BGM) used in a game whenever, just by searching them in the SOUND PLAYER MODE included in the INFORMATION MENU of NEOGEO Station. The data of all types of BGM played in the SOUND PLAYER MODE are copied and played in the NEOGEO Station COMMON SAVE DATA FILE at the first use of a downloaded NEOGEO Station game. Therefore, except the necessity to install the games once, you can play all BGM of all the games you have downloaded in once. It means that you can even the BGM of Samurai Shodown in the SOUND PLAYER MODE of FATAL FURY.

How many SNK games have online play worth a shit?

Okay. Rolling through the English version of the site explains a lot of features that are coming with these games and the emulator. Firstly there's nothing about trophies anywhere so sorry to the trophy whores out there.

  • You do buy the games through the PlayStation Store and launch them through the NeoGeo Station application.
  • The site specifically says they plan to release games that were never given a western release.
  • You can make a save state at any time in the emulator.
  • Much like the PS1/PS2 Memory Card utility the emulator here has a way to duplicate the NeoGeo memory card that was used for the system and the arcade machines.
  • PS3 Online play is fairly fucking awesome for this thing. It's not just a simplistic way to play it. There are title specific features for online gameplay and will include such options as Quick Match, Match Search, Create Match, Check Invite, and Network Setting.
  • The games all have voice chat enabled.
  • From the previous point there is an in-game invite system for these games through the emulator that uses your PSN friends list and even that is fairly awesome. You invite through the game after you have created a match (or a game), you can simply choose to invite people from your friends list or to enter a PSN ID. You do not have to wait for them to join before you start playing. You can continue playing by yourself and they can join your session in progress.
  • Whatever games you buy you also have access to their BGM soundtrack at any time. And it seems like you can play one game's music while you're in another game. :lol
  • You can also save and replay your gameplay. Up to 8 replays per title at any given time.
  • You get a digital game manual for every game and you also get a move list for fighting games

it says something about quiality of online chat, hopefully that will help with latency. That thing that says that you can continue playing is very similar to MKII for PSN.
