Let's discuss.

I love Franky so that's what she is in the title <3

Franky's alright, but the rest of this cast does nothing for me. I've already almost completely forgotten everything that happened last year.

I remember when Skins used to be good.

It peaked at season 2 imo and hit rock bottom at season 4. Last year was a bit better.

Oh yeah, that's right! He had a party and tried to move a rock, right? It's starting to come back to me now.

I agree with all of this. A lot. The second cast had some really great moments, but it really tanked with the murder stuff at the end. REALLY tanked.

I remember when Effy became the lead for Series 3. I was surprised to see that she was smokin hot. It kinda freaked me out because she was just a kid in the first series.

Cook was also a bellend. I know he was written that way but he was completely unlikeable. The writers tried to get us to empathise with him but he was just too much of a knob.

absolutely loved the new episode, probably my favourite skins episode eve.r no shit, ive seen it 3 or 4 times. fucking love it.

the characters have really improved in most cases...

nick sorta builds on his last character
alo is cool, kinda reminds me of chris from season 1.
mini is awesome, used to hate her but shes really sweet and sooo fucking hot
matty is .. uhh, i dunno, pretty shit still, reminds me of freddie too much.
liv is cool, not much changed about her just a bit more normal
franky - woww, love what theyve done with her, i like how she talks more and is pretty hot
grace & rich - this is the sweetest couple ever, one scene in particular stands out and being very naturla is when theyre sitting together and smoking and grace sais like 'your penis has been a bit of a joke' and rich goes 'yeh it has, but sometimes its ready for a bit of standup' and then they say like 'nice one', lolz.
rider - really like rider, kinda funny and hope he's a bit more integrated with the main gang.

whats odd is how they made everyone sorta likeable... that blonde guy pissed me off. fucking horse face scroty mcfishflaps. his dancing lol.

So, a bit off topic but how good was season 5? I completely stopped during season 3 as I hated most of the new cast, haven't given this one a chance though.

For me, it was the best thing Skins has done since the 1st and 2nd series. Thought it was leaps and bounds above 3 and 4.

It will, of course, depend on whether you like the cast or not.

Pretty good premiere. Frankie was already bitchy in the final few episodes of last season, if I recall, so I didn't have any problem with her developments in the newest episode.

In season 2 Chris dies, in season 4 Freddie dies, so who will die this season? Place your bets! I'm guessing Rich.

Also, I didn't know that the Skins movie got cancelled. I was looking forward to it.

I thought series 5 was too meandering. It had a much more likable cast than the previous generation, but nothing in it reached the highs of "Pandora" or "J.J." from series 3 because...nothing happened.

Series 1 and 2 are, of course, some of the best television ever. Watching the S6 premiere now - thanks OP, or else I would have never known!

Why haven't they killed this yet?

It had charm in its first couple of series, now it's a blister on the face of a generation. Burn it.

My rambling thoughts:

- Eek, the drug use this episode is more annoying than usual.
- Long, "meaningful" montages of one-dimensional pieces of detritus doing nothing in particular, like drinking or dancing or staring longingy at hidden faraway objects. My favorite :-/
- Is Frankie the new Effy? They're beginning the character assassination early this time...
- The way Skins is filmed has always made its production values seem higher than they actually are. It's hard to go back to the usual American teen dramas after being spoiled with cinematography this gorgeous.
- Eye candy all up in this bitch!
- Isn't this supposed to be a show about lower middle-class blokes? Guess the writers forgot about that in order to show some nice exotic scenery.

Not a promising start.

it's news to be, but I should have expected since they promised the movie over two years ago. I want closure!

I really like the British architectural/location shots, the same with Misfits.

Series 6!?!? Jesus.

I can't believe this show didnt get cancelled after the second series. It went right up its own arse during it. About a Boy boy getting hit by the bus was the beginning of the end. Did have a great cast tho.

I enjoyed all the generations of characters, but series 3 & 4 did seem to have a weaker cast. Or at least not much seemed to happen at least until the end but thatwas just so sudden and random.

The most recent cast has been pretty great but unlike the past two generations, everybody is actually likable. Even Mattie. It's seems they're trying to show how it's possible for a really different group of kids are able to rise above their cliqueiness and become friends. The way the new season started out the was just pretty brutal though. I guess the goal is to show friction between everybody. It was really sad though.

Somewhere in the middle of this season, they're going to introduce a new main character, who is gay, flirty, and apparently kisses Nick at some point. He might be the gay Ryder!

The hell, the movie got scrapped? Lame.

Agreed with the fact that second gen had some major league fuckups in terms of quality. They assassinated Effy's character with an AK-47 (but at least Kaya Scodelario is still ridiculously hot), Cook was an assclown and they tried WAY too hard with the "drama" by doing dumb shit like killing Freddie. They even tried to torpedo Naomi's character (again, at least Lily Loveless is hot), which I hated because she was amazing in S3.

I didn't hate S5 though. Hope they don't fuck it up with this one. Mini is best character of this gen so far, IMO.

The first two series were good, third was okay. Fourth series is shit.
I didn't like last season very much but the cast was interesting, at least there are were no Freddie/Effy bullshit

I just can't stop laughing when I see Matty doing this

So basically in every scene

Well I didn't expect that :O Good episode though, anyone else think Mimi has gotten much hotter this series?

Much better than the second generation so far. Nice to see they remembered how to write likeable characters rather than the two-dimensional fuckers in the 3rd and 4th series (JJ is exempt).

Just tried the first ep, I stopped watching when Grace started singing. I mean wtf was that.

As someone else said, the amount of drug use seemed odd. For some reason all the crassness was too much, I'm not sure if it's me that's changed or if the writing has gotten worse.

"You smell like muff."

Jesus Christ.

Says the guy with a Misfits avatar.

Holy shit, you got me there.

I suppose the difference is that when someone (Rudy/Nathan) is disgusting in Misfits they're better comedic actors for starters, but also the rest of the characters are, you know, disgusted.

In this ep of Skins it was like "You smell of sex! tee hee hee! Aren't we fucking wild teenagers lets smoke heaps of weed and do nothing else in Morocco."

I enjoyed season 5 and no doubt I'll try watching 6 again when I realise I have nothing better to do, but I dunno. Even Cook was likeable. None of these guys are likeable when they're being rough and mental.

You're complaining about Ryder being crass? And they've always used tons of drugs, hell that's how Olivia and Mattie met.

Cook was only likeable when he was
giving that speech and about to straight up murder the dude who killed Freddy.
And that in of itself was fucking ridiculous.

Don't get me wrong I fucking hated series 4, the ending was hilarious. It was as if the writers had killed off Freddy and then hadn't worked out how to wrap that all up interestingly.

I know they've always done lots of drugs and they've always been crass, either I've gotten over it as a means of entertainment or the writers have gotten worse and can't do something intelligent with the subject matter anymore.

I have just come from watching series 1-4 of The Wire, so maybe I have my standards a tad too high.

Probably part of it, watch a few episodes of the Inbetweeners and come back to Skins. After hearing 'So I had one bent over the table here, there was one up here who I was fingering and I was just toe fucking the one on the floor' the sex references will go straight over your head ;)

At least Cook was really awesome in that scene. I really, really hope that he succeeded because that guy had it coming.

I'll have to look up S6 now that it's out. On a slightly related note, I wish that Sofia Black D'Elia had been cast in the UK version instead of the US version as Tea, because I actually liked her character a lot despite being a bootleg Maxxie (and she was quite pretty to boot) but I knew going in that was going to bomba, and it did.

So what actually went wrong with Season 4?

IMO Effys mental breakdown was horribly done. So was the Effy/Freddie/Cook love triangle. I'm not sure the writers knew what they were doing for the entire Series.

Panda was the best character from Series 3/4 and she was barely even used in Series 4.

I'm more of a Naomi = best character (in S3 anyway) kind of guy, but yeah Panda was pretty awesome.

What went wrong with S4 is that Jamie Brittain did most of it.

The biggest thing that rung BS to me about the Effy breakdown for me was Brittain's insistence on keeping the "no returning characters" policy. From what was presented to us in S1/S2, there is absolutely nothing on this earth short of death that would have stopped Tony Stonem from being there for his little sister. She was like the only person he genuinely connected with. He should have been there the moment all that shit went down, beating Cook and Dr. Whoeverthefuck's collective asses and setting her right like she did for him after his accident. By the way, Effy's two and a half page "fuck you" text to Sid and Michelle in S2 was epic.

Good point, hadn't thought of that.

They were all petulant little twats, that's what was wrong. Gen 2 were the annoying underclassman when you were a senior that you wanted to smack upside the head and tell them to quit acting like a bunch of fuck-ups.

The writers just have a bad habit of introducing huge "SHOCKER" storylines in the second-to-last episode. It worked when
Chris died
because they needed a way to repair the characters' friendship and bring them back together somehow after all the shit went down with Sid/Michelle/Tony/Cassie and Sid/Anwar/Sketch. The S2 finale is one of the finest hours of television I've ever seen, and it earned its man-tears in spades.

But
Freddie's murder
just came out of nowhere and didn't seem to serve any narrative purpose. With all that madness left hanging, how could they expect us to give even one iota of attention to the dragged-out Naomi/Emily stuff (which was resolved horribly, by the way). I felt so disconnected from everything that was going on.

S5 (and S6, so far) is even worse. You know how the main cast used to be mostly normal (if a tad reckless, lol) and were juxtaposed against the joke characters like the posh blonde girl and Michelle's sister-in-law? Now it seems like every single character is a joke character. So shallow and boring, with no sense of realism or relatability.

It was very clear all episode long that Grace was a hallucination, but I didn't think she would die. Wikipedia says (Possible spoiler for future episode) ----->
episode 9 is Grace centric though, so I'm not sure what that's all about.
<---- (Possible spoiler for future episode)

Does it bug anyone else that the houses always get trashed? Like, whenever a party goes down, the place gets totally trashed. And no one really seems to care all that much.
