New Capcom Arcade announcement this Sunday (Darkstalkers?!) [Captrolled]

I think, financially speaking, if they want to maximize profits they should just do the deed and make Kellogs vs. Capcom already. There isn't a fighting game player or human being that could resist that.

Stealing my ideas. I have wanted a Smash clone with cereal/fast food/general food stuffs mascots for years.

I would take a sports mascots one as well.

I always thought Street Fighter IV was an awful sequel to Street Fighter III. I remember the first time I played the game and did I a jump in attack I thought to myself "Okay this don't feel right". Tatsunoko VS Capcom & Marvel VS Capcom 3 thankfully fared off much better in my opinion and didn't look like trash either.

Pretty much this.

I don't get this. How does that make it an awful sequel?

Did you turn on the game and do exactly one jump attack then shut it off?

Can you give some more examples?

Did you never play SF2 or SF0/Alpha? SF3's the big outlier in the series.

The jumps are extremely floaty compared to most SF games, but I don't know if saying it was a bad sequel is justified. Third strike pretty much sunk capcom fighting games for quite some time.

Pretty sure releasing a new fighting game every 3 months with the same old sprites is what sunk capcom fighting division.

That Ryu Alpha sprite almost got more mileage than Doom sfx in the 90s.

then again third strike is one of their better games.

First off I think Street Fighter IV is one of the ugliest games I have ever seen from an art point of view, why does everyone look like they are on steroids? In terms of animation it fares better but it's still no Soulcalibur or Virtua Fighter let alone Street Fighter III. Just do a Hurricane Kick in SF III & then in SFIV and see for yourself. Maybe I'm going too far here but the animation feels closer to those EX games than the 2D stuff I'm used to.

In terms of gameplay it feels like Street Fighter III for newbies, the game is far more forgiving when it comes to command input. I can pretty much half ass the commands and the moves will still come out regardless, the game should encourage you to learn the motions correctly not give you a free pass. I don't like the focus attack because it basically goes against how I fight as I'm a person who either blocks, dodges or repels attacks. Teaching myself to "absorb" attacks is seriously the most unnatural thing ever for me.

It's not really a bad game in it's own right but as a sequel to Street Fighter III it was very lackluster. As someone who has basically played all those 2D fighters Capcom pumped out in the 90's Street Fighter IV just does not feel right. I honestly can't pin point exactly where it goes wrong but to me it feels off.
I'm actually going to say that the best thing Street Fighter IV did was influence Mortal Kombat 9 to be the first Mortal Kombat game to not suck since Mortal Kombat II. (Shaolin Monks was good)

I think saying "everybody" looks like they're on steroids is hyperbole. I mean, compared to who in whatever your favorite SF is?

SF4 on PC is one of the best looking fighters out there. Tons of the models look really nice.

I hate the way the game plays, but I don't get the everybody looks too big argument, especially considering that's pretty much always been the case.

My hype is for Rival Schools and Rival Schools only.

Darkstalkers would be kinda cool, though.
A new Rival Schools would send my hype so far into the atmosphere, I'd probably find the edge of space.

But I think if we're getting any revival of a fighting game IP, it will be Darkstalkers first. Then we can bask in the perfection that is Rival Schools.

It will be another crossover game except this time they will grab not one company the US is unfamiliar with but TWO!

Tatsunoko vs Toei Animation!

Calling Kamen Rider Skull/ Racer X as my team. Maybe Kaiketsu Zubat/ Tekkaman if they make it in.

It wasn't realized until way after the fact.

That too. Some of those sprites have a lot of nostalgic value, but seeing morrigan sprite in cvs2 is just the most laziest thing ever. MVC2 was pretty much a game where they threw sprites into an engine and said fuck it.

If it's being announced on the SBO stream, one would definitely expect it to be a fighting game. And one might also expect it to be a game that Japanese players would really like.

This thread made me realize I never actually played Rival Schools.

Is it legitimately an awesome game or are people just super blinded by nostalgia?

Because then there will be a slight chance I will want to play it, which will make the time period where others are able to play it but I am not very upsetting.

Also genre crowding/taking mindshare/slots in events/stream time from other games via the company name on the box.

I've only ever played Project Justice. Never been able to get my hands on a copy of Rival Schools but one of these days it will be added to my collection.

I thought about this a bit too, and I think it makes sense. Announce arcade release for 2013 now, will hit consoles mid to late 2014.

Capcom is pretty adamant that they have a roadmap for FG through 2013, so I'm expecting titles, or at least smaller titles (remakes, etc.) to fill the gap in mainly 2013. This also works with recent Sven comments saying these games take a long time to make (corroborating the long ass dev times for both MvC3 and SF4).

I know I'm someone who keeps a small roster of fighting games I play at any given time. With the amount of time I get to play, it's hard for me to even learn one, so I pretty much stick to UMvC3. Pretty sure everyone is aware of the genre crowding at the moment, devs included, and they'll account for that at least somewhat.

There will be no CvS games, new or old that will be put out in the future. SNK doesn't want it to happen, and they shut down CvS3 when Capcom wanted to make it.

*bursts bubble for millionth time*

Well after SvC bombed, I don't blame em.

There's also the whole Capcom not doing sprites anymore thing.

Either polygonal SNK characters or Capcom returning to sprites. Both would be weird.

Was KoF XIII such a success that they do not need money anymore? I mean, it is still SNK one day they will be as good as dead again for the n-th time.

Besides that Tech Romancer would be a nice bubble.
