TY guys! Did you use regular post or went with fedex, dhl...?

Regular post for me (MexPOST) when i shipped to my buddy in the UK. FeDEX and DHL wanted to charge me a ridiculous amount for "duties and customs" because it were candy.

Regarding custom and stuff. For all of those who are shipping overseas your best bet is your local post service. Is cheaper, it can be slow though but you will save a lot in $$$ and in headaches for you and your partner in the other side. The last buddy i got have to ship his package twice, fedex wanted money from me to give me the package even if it was already here for "clearance and customs". They wanted $1,800.00 MXN (almost 5 times the value of the package) i had no money and just tell 'em to fuck off. They take it back to the UK and my partner so kindly shipped it again but this time using Royal Mail.

Come on in, we need more swappers.

Well I wish it ever since I have learned about NeoGAF, and found the candy swap thread. But I always had to prioritize. Back home a candy swap would cost me more then a quarter of my salary (almost half), and here in Austria I have to equip my flat first.

how many people do we need? to get this working a bit.
I finally get to join in and it looks like it's not happening this time :(
Be nice people send each other fat/sugary stuff!!

I read Summer and then Candy and was just thinking about the chocolate and candy melting in this Eastern US heat.

I might try one of these for the first time since they always seemed interesting.

lol at how mostly everyone is putting Japan.

I'm in!

Things you like Gummy candies, chocolates, bars, anything really
Things you dislike, cannot have or allergic to Cherry filling I guess

Just updated the 2nd post with standings, looks like we need more from places other than North America who'd be willing to trade. Little waiting list for some North Americans too.

As I stated earlier in my post, you can put me in the non-Canada/USA traders list if the person I'm matched up doesn't mind waiting for an extra week or two. I'll be in Hong Kong from August 16 to September 8 or so, and will be able to get Japanese/Hong Kong sweets.
This can open up two spots in the USA/Canada list and someone will be able to get the highly sought-after Japanese candies, heh.

  • r3d panda
  • USA but live in San Diego and will do Mexican Candy only this time
  • Asian or South American or Spain
  • Mostly salty/savory also gummy and sour
  • Licorice and hard candy

Maybe it was just bad luck or timing, but when I got a swapper from Japan, the stuff wasn't that great. I got my hands into some good cherry shit when I was there (cherry candy whatever is one of my oldest vices), but so far the american shit is usually the shit.

It probably all depends on what you're into. I love all the variations of chocolate-and-biscuit type snacks and the fruit flavored white chocolate candies that are really popular there.

The best candy bar I've ever had was the Lotte European Pear bar I got while there. White chocolate flavored with dehydrated pear juice and pulp, it tasted just like a bartlett pear in chocolate bar form. Too bad it was a limited edition candy :(

I'm in but I have a couple of special requests. androidcandy is my significant other and a member here on NeoGAF. We both want to participate in the swap but it would be wasteful to do it separately, so I'm requesting to be paired with someone willing to up the spending limit. Also, we're planning on making an unboxing video and a higher budget seems like it would make for a much more interesting package. Somewhere around 30-50 USD would be perfect.

Doing this for my girlfriend who loves chocolates and trying it from different places. Yes, yes, that sounds sexual.

Nice! Can I assume most American candy is not in other countries? Stuff like M&Ms, Good & Plenty, Jolly Ranchers, etc?

I think most countries have M&Ms. Never heard of the "Good and Plenty" or "Jolly Ranchers"-brands but the images on google look very similiar to the candy you can get from any shop in the Netherlands.

Just to get an idea, how much does shipping usually cost?

The short answer is, it depends on how much candy you send and how far you are sending it.

I typically send about $30 worth of candy or so. But in the last few swaps, I've taken to using flat-rate boxes via USPS (from the US, of course), so the costs are not crazy. I want to say around $20 for the last few swaps. It can get a lot higher if you use larger or non-standard boxes and ship a lot of candy. The links in the OP have some calculators in the "Helpful Links" section.

I'll want to send stuff the person I get paired with can't get locally of course. Maybe the weird M&M's, like the grape ones. I think I'll start picking up random things I don't see often, like flavored M&Ms.

Last time i went for local candy brands instead of renown multinationals and also traditional candy (i'm Mexican so we have a bunch of those here) too. That gives a lot of variety.

Good idea. That just reminded me that we have a local candy shop here that sells all the old classic candy and drinks from the olden days (the ones that are still manufactured anyway). Stuff like Mary Janes, Sugar Daddy, Zagnut, Wax Bottles, Zotz, Sixlets, Candy Necklaces, Bazooka Gum, etc.

They also have a cool assortment of things like homemade fudge and giant 5 lb. gummy bears.

Ooh, may I still sign up?

Things you like: Chocolate, gummies, cookies (basically anything except my dislikes)
Things you dislike, cannot have or allergic: Suckers/lollipops, Black licorice, coconut (just dislikes).

Last time I sent Hong Kong candy (which will also be the case this time if my partner is willing to wait an extra week or two), the bulk of what I sent was from a local Hong Kong Candy/snack franchise called Aji Ichiban where it pretty much works like a "pick and mix" and you pay for the weight of the bag of candy.

I liked doing it this way because then whoever I'm trading with can try a much larger variety of candy. I tried to get a bit of everything that was similar to their "likes" list with different flavours and what not. And I just went to convenience stores for random boxes of whatever else to buffer the remaining space in the shipping box.

I always get in late, but I'm really hoping to get in this time!

2 countries you would like to swap with Japan, Hong Kong, China, Singapore ... ... don't want this to come off as anything less than friendly - but something quirky ;)

Things you like Hypersweets, chocoloate, gummy, cookies, fruity, candy bars, biscuits, "branded stuff " like Super Mario candy, weird things, something I've never seen before

Things you dislike, cannot have or allergic to Black licorice, suckers/lolipops, and I'm 50/50 on sour stuff - oh, and im super adventurous, but i absolutely canNOT do bugs/insects, sorry

I'm more than happy to do anywhere from $20 - about $75 + shipping.

This looks awesome! Who wouldn't be willing to wait an extra couple weeks for goodies like these!

A lot of American candy is everywhere - M&Ms, Hersheys, Snickers, Mars, Raisenettes, Milk Duds, OREO cookies etc.

On top of that I come to the US a bunch of times a year and buy candy to take back, so for me personally I'd prefer not to have a US partner unless they could manage exclusively boutique or very local stuff.
