What is the PS4's actual recording buffer? I don't think it's the past 15 minutes..

So when I first heard the PS4 would be including the ability to record the last 15 minutes of gameplay, I was very excited.

I play a lot of FPS games and sometimes I pull off some stuff I'd like to brag to my friends about.

So, I've used the Share button sparingly the past two weeks, mainly because I haven't done too many impressive feats. lol.

On Sunday, I was playing a match of COD, and I was able to plant a radar in front of a guy and still win a firefight in an embarrassing manner for the other guy.

I hit share. The PS4 stopped recording about 2 minutes before the part where my clip would have been.

Disappointing, but I didn't think anything of it.

Last night in BF4 conquest, I was able to take out a full chopper with an RPG (no heat seeking capabilities). I was very excited. Hit the share button. When I checked the clip later, it actually recorded a match from about an hour prior. I was pretty upset about that.

The curious part is that the screenshots from when I hit the share button are of the right moment, but the clips are off.

Has anyone else come across the same issue?

It's 15 minutes for sure.

This was recorded on the PS4, and it came out at exactly 15 minutes.

Some games handle the functionality in different ways though. BF4 doesn't record sound, others don't record unless you hit the Share button first.

There are a few issues, but I have seen many long recordings in files though. My main problem is that it keeps multiple files for a long period without clean up. You have to manually delete the recordings.

I haven't done much with videos... but the few I've made were sitting there as I assumed they would be.

I do hope they can speed up the bit of lag on the easy screenshot option. It takes the picture 1-2 seconds after you tap it.

It's 15 minutes. Just a bit buggy. I've missed a shot or two, but also had equally good luck getting what I wanted.

I imagine it will get better.

Just to clarify, I know the recordings are 15 minutes, but it doesn't seem to be the past 15 minutes from when you hit the Share button.

I know in warframe I ran over 15 mins and it started another file. So I had 15 mins and then like 2 mins. Only time I had seen it happen tho.

it only stores the recording when you hit the share button but i think it still has a few bugs. so basically if you do something cool and hit share its going to be at the end of a 15 minute video. i do wish you didn't have to close out the game you're playing to share the video

Its the past 15 minutes, but its buggy. The other night while playing BF4, I sniped the pilot of a helicopter with a total luck shot, easily the coolest thing I've done in the game so far. I hit the share button and was so happy I could save the moment, but when I went to edit it, it was footage was not there (there was a video but it was from before/after, not sure), even though the thumbnail was from seconds after sniping the pilot. I was pretty disappointed. Other videos were fine, though. Hopefully they iron out the cinks.

Really wish I had that video though, I'll probably never do something like that again.

We share each others pain. :(

It seems really buggy at the moment. I'll go into the folders to view videos and it's still got videos from a few days ago. I don't really want it to automatically hold on to any old video, just always be recording.

Like everyone else said its 15min. Sometimes it does some buggy stuff but for a launch feature its pretty good. The easy screen capture option is definitely the way to go.

Mines been recording at 15 minute clips. Wonder if it is bugged from game to game.

It could be a BF4 issue. Game is so undercooked right now.

It definitely seems to be buggy in some games. So far me for it has worked correctly in Resogun, AC4, and Need for Speed Rivals... but in Killzone it is very iffy on whether it actually saves the last 15 minutes (or anything at all) when I press the share button. Have lost some cool moments haha :(

It definitely dumps out 15 minute files, but like you, it isn't saving the correct 15 minutes. That's happened to me every time I try in Rivals, so I gave up. It was crushing too, since some insane shit happened in a race that I though was cool enough to share. But it saved out a clip from 15-30 minutes prior.

This has happened to me twice. Sometimes the feature works and it's actually my last 15 minutes of gameplay, but other times the gameplay is from an hour ago. Random screenshots and videos also show up in my saved data without me even taking videos or screenshots. What's up with that?

I only recently learned that the Share button would not save my gameplay clip unless I first hit "Upload Video Clip" Missed a lot of great Battlefield 4 clips...

I wish there was a way to just do a quick 15 minutes save without ever leaving the game screen, like you can with the screenshot function.

What the fuck? That is bs. Why does it not when others do?

Something's definitely up with it, but I don't know what. It isn't doing what I want it to do.

This is pretty much my experience, lol. Can't really pin it, but it isn't right.

It's mainly in BF4, in my experience. It saves some 3:03 minute clip from earlier in the day. wtf

When Black Ops came out, I remember sniping once and getting a headshot on two guys with the same shot. Wish the share feature had existed then, it was so perfect.

sometimes your games aren't in the game folder. check "OTHER" when searching clip. there's an issue where it doesn't tag the clip for what game you are playing. i had that issue with NFS. 4 of the videos were in the others pile.

The recording feature seems kinda iffy with the small amount of videos I've recorded. I'm going to have to mess with it more to draw a definitive conclusion.

Does anyone else have random screenshots and videos that they don't remember recording at all?

Screenshots seem to work fine. 1 to 2 second delay.

I have plenty of random videos I didn't record. They seem to be stuck in the cache and save once I try to save something I actually want.

Its definitely not working as its supposed to.

I had a "battlefield moment"..hit the share button with the intention of visiting the clip later...that clip wound up being 15 minutes of a different match.

Since then i do this...not sure if it makes a difference..when i hit share i also go into the upload clip screen..then i back out to the game.
I did this after every match..three in a row and each match was saved...give or take a few minutes depending on length (one match was 12 minutes, one was 25..of which i only got the last 15 minutes of.)

Manually managing these videos is annoying. So is the screen shot everytime you HOLD the button.
The ideal setup would be:
TAP - Screeshot
DOUBLE TAP - Save the last 15 minutes of video
HOLD - Share Menu only.

This double tap to begin recording a clip is redundant. The system is already recording...The option to END the recording is more important. (And we have that already).

I believe you can change the Share button to do that.

On the PS4 main menu, hit Share and when the screen comes up, hit Options.

You should have the option to change the Share button to Simple settings (something like that, I'm not near my PS4).

I'm pretty sure it then makes the Share button behave exactly like you ask.
