The article is a really really good read... If the game turns out the way it is being described its going to double everything Halo 3 did.

Metroidvania

People called Romanes they go the house?
So far, I'm liking what I'm reading. Spartan III team (except for Jorge) confirmed...interesting.

Also, wow @ the new tech. Much kudos to the tech peeps.

The only "scans" I could find were too blurry to really read. Can't wait to grab the issue myself.

Hmmm, seems like they are doing away with the Carbine. That makes me sad. I really enjoyed using it in Halo 3 because it operated the way I was hoping the H3 Pistol would.

Maybe the new 'Needler Rifle' is the new Carbine.

Stolen from Bungie.net

- We play as Spartan IIIs. Jorge is the only Spartan II on the team.

- Carter 259 and Kat 320 are the only members of their original squad.

- Jorge is a heavy weapons specialist.

- "Skully" now has a name, Emile 239. He's the silent type of the game.

- The sniper is called Jun 266. He's thoughtful and taciturn.

- We can customise the appearance of the Lone Wolf by a small degree. Awesome.

- The game is apparently darker than any of the other Halo games, even more so than ODST.

- Human Insurrectionists are possibly in the game

- Bungie have once again made the Covenant more dangerous and frightening, as they were in Halo 1.

- Covenant soldiers no longer speak English, they speak in their own languages.

- A new enemy like a Jackal has been introduced, named a "Skirmisher." They are deadly and cunning enemies that attack in packs, and flank secure positions.

- Graphics have been improved drastically, as proven by in-magazine comparisons.

- Elites are back, and are more ferocious than ever.

- Larger scale combat will be in Reach. Where only 20 AI at a time could be on screen in Halo 3, now over 40 AI and 20 vehicles can be present at a time.

- Scenes are more cinematic.

- Noble Team splits up at a point in the story.

- Health Bar is back along with energy shield.

- Single shot rifle like the Halo 2 E3 demo is in the game, named the Designated Marksman Rifle (DRM)

- Sniper, AR and Magnum make a return. Gun sounds are more realistic.

- Needler Rifle is in the game, a mid-range headshot capable weapon.

- Spike Grenades and Flame Grenades are out. Only frags and plasma remain.

- Helicopter Transport is called the Falcon.

- Civillian vehicles are now drivable.

- Fully stealthy gameplay is now possible.

- Assassinations are possible with a knife by holding down the melee button.

- Sprinting is now possible through an equipment like mechanic.

This is HUGE... Wonder if this would mean more vehicles in mutliplayer too? Or maybe even more bodies in multiplayer? 24? 32?

Looks like both Spirit and Phantom dropships are in the game.

From what I can make out MP is still 16 players.

Seeing two spartans riding a construction truck made me lol.

And switching out equipment to be able to change from sprint to camo to anything else sounds nice, as long as the stealth lasts longer than the arbiter's. :p

Also on that note, we can finally be stealthy all the time for certain missions. :D

Stuff

Most important thing in the list is pretty much glossed over. The equipment as we knew it from Halo 3 is gone, replaced by "armor abilities". Every armor ability has a recharge meter, and can be used multiple times, and can be replaced much like picking up a weapon. Sprint is an example, where you can sprint at high speed for a short period of time. Active camouflage is another, where you can cloak for a short period.

I don't think it will translate over to MP. They are really 2 different things. Campaign AI relies mainly on processing power while additional people in MP relies upon UDP architectures and internet.

Plus, I think it's already been confirmed as 16 people tops for MP, IIRC.

I'm very pumped about more grandiose Campaign though. I thought the very open battles of AoTCR never really got repeated again in Halo 2/Halo 3.

Whether it's the terrifying danger of facing down a well shielded Elite, or the wonder of turning a corner to be greeted by a breathtaking panorama of mountains and forests, Halo: Reach embraces the sense of mystery and excitement the franchise was founded upon.
Please stop teasing me, Bungie.

I can live with 16, as long as they can find someway to make it worthwhile on XBOX Live... BTB Ranked always gets killed by lag or insane wait times for games. Social BTB is ok, but it's just a quit fest most the time and guest generally suck.

I'm loving the new look. It's kind of a reboot art wise.

They didn't see MP at all and just outlined the basics from last games.

Anyways the article seemed to spend a lot of text saying very little at all.
Maybe bad, I'm having a issue making out the text. Maybe there is hope for 16+

One of the side boxes is the only mention of multiplayer, it doesn't confrim deny more than 16 but it does confirm that everything from the Halo 3 multiplayer experience will be included... so atleast 4 player online co-op, 2 player co-op splitscreen, save films...

Graphics are fantastic. Pretty close to the reveal cinematic I'd say?

I'd like to see the actual magazine, not just scans, but the stupid retailers around here don't carry Game Informer... Hard to tell quality without the real thing.

The campaign seems like it could finally threaten Halo: CE dominance. Focus on large scale skirmishes that can threaten even Spartans, a darker mood than ODST, a degree of customization in the campaign, new enemy designs...WHOOO.

My only question so far is what can we expect from the multiplayer. Camoing up to steal a power weapon back or plant a bomb, and sprinting quickly for a power weapon all sound interesting in theory but a lot of tinkering with the map design and perhaps other mechanics will be necessary to make everything flow well. I'm certainly not interested in H3 base multiplayer with the same map design concepts except with players spawning with sprint/camo and etc...that's lazy design and doesn't sound that fun. Changing a lot of things around however to be molded around the new abilities could turn Halo multiplayer into something special though.

Adding a health system really makes me think that they are going for an objective or class based multiplayer system.

I'm not a Halo fan but those scans make the singleplayer sound very cool. Now if they just made the multiplayer class based, I would become very excited for Reach.
