According to a South African retailer, we may see another series of Amiibo launch in May.

The retailer, Raru, currently has listing for "Amiibo - Splatoon Boy," "Amiibo - Splatoon Girl," and "Splatoon plus Amiibo Squid"; this suggests that there will be three Splatoon Amiibo (a male and female character, and a squid Amiibo). It also seems that the squid Amiibo will be exclusive to a bundle with the game, similar to the Mario Party Mario Amiibo; the retailer also has listings for the Greninja and Jigglypuff Smash Bros. Amiibo for a May release.

So basically, there will supposedly be a version of Splatoon that comes with a Squid Amiibo, while both Girl & Boy Inklings will each have Amiibos that are sold separately. On top of that, the Super Smash Bros. line of Amiibos will apparently gain Greninja & Jigglypuff in their lineup, rounding out the default Pokémon crew (of course, there's Mewtwo, but I'm not sure if DLC characters are getting Amiibos).

EDIT 2: Raru has removed the Amiibos in question from their site. Take that for what you will.

There's a mistake in the quoted part. The Mario amiibo that is part of the MP10 bundle will be available separately. Unless I'm mistaken and it's a special Mario amiibo, but I'm fairly certain it's not.

Why bother? They'll be manufactured in low quantity and scalpers will buy them all, then sell them again for inflated prices. Rinse and repeat. The Amiibo cycle of economics.

amiibo are a good and easy way for Nintendo to do collector's editions of games lol. Now I hope they have game-specific amiibo for Xenoblade Chronicles X and Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem!!

Please understand. Their profits are at an all time low, and this is the easiest way to milk their fanbase. I don't know how long it's going to last, though. Surely people will start running out of space.

Amiibo functionality? Probably. Actual amiibo figures? Maybe? I exact the major franchises will get lines in the same vein as the Super Mario Line when they release (I'm talking Zelda and Star Fox specifically), but who knows on others.

Weird, sort've figured thought since Xenoblade 3DS supports the Shulk Amiibo X would maybe support it as well, even though X is more its own thing story-wise.

It still could, it just hasn't been announced as of yet. I think the game still has to September to come out in Japan, if I'm not mistaken.

It's coming out April 29th in Japan. 7ish weeks away.

You can already buy it on the JP eShop.

That's nice... except everybody in this thread is acting like it's been confirmed. Don't get your hopes up, people. I don't think a Splatoon line is out of the question, but Nintendo may not be willing to take the risk.
