VOTING CLOSED

Inspired by the Empire's 30 greatest superhero movies thread, it's about time we did our own ultimate rankings! Searched and don't see a prior voting thread for favorite superhero movies.

Rules:

- List a minimum of five and maximum of ten of your top superhero movies.
- Number lists in order starting with your top choice in the following format (lists without numbering will be sent to the Phantom Zone):

1. Batman & Robin
2. Elektra
3. Blankman
and so on

* 10 points go to your #1 choice, 9 points to #2, etc.
* You can add some comments with each entry if you'd like, but if you do that please bold the movie title so it stands out, or otherwise put comments below each ranked item (like this), or a combination (like this).
* Feel free to include additional lists for fun or completeness (e.g. honorable mentions, rankings 11-20), but please separate those and place them below your top ten list.

- Make only one top ten list. You can edit your list until voting ends (March 21, 10pm EDT, 7pm PDT). voting ended one day early
- Let's try to keep this thread focused on voting. The results thread will then have ample opportunity for discussion, debates, etc. :)

Clarification on what is or isn't eligible:
This is focused on superhero movies rather than all movies based on comic books or graphic novels (e.g. Sin City isn't eligible). Conversely, a superhero movie doesn't need to be based on a preexisting CB/GN (e.g. Unbreakable). Animated movies are of course eligible. All that really matters is the movie having one or more superheroes. :)

This website is a pretty good overview of all superhero and comic-based movies ever made. Movies with a 'C' next to the title ("based on a non-superhero comic book") wouldn't be eligible here. There's also the SuperheroDB to check if characters in movies are considered to be superheroes.

And here...we...go!

5. X2 - The intro, cast, and action belong in the top 10
6. Superman II - Kneel before Zod
7. Spider-Man 2 - Best Spidey flick out of the 5

Earlier versions of this list had X-Men: DOFP, the Avengers, and Unbreakable on them. Rocketeer almost made it this time. I don't actually consider Guardians of the Galaxy to be a Superhero film, although I think it's the second best thing Marvel's ever made (which would have bumped Blade II down the list, and Watchmen off it completely.)

I can acknowledge that it's a superb movie, it's just not a personal favorite. I think I dislike Christian Bale as batman a little more every time I watch a movie from the Nolan trilogy.

Looking at the list in the OP that helps clarify what is eligible - does Robocop really count as a superhero flick cause thats my #1 if it does.

I wouldn't consider it one at all, no. Not only would that be stretching the definition of superhero, but it'd be running counter to how people have thought of the character for decades now. Nobody really considers him a Superhero. Counting him now would basically be, for lack of a better term, trying to break the game.

Wizard Magazine's Top 50 Comicbook movies from 2003...

A lot of those are also not superhero movies. OP tried to delineate between movies based on comic books and movies about superheroes pretty cleanly. That list kinda just muddies it up.

Pretty sure #1 counts because its the best Superman movie ever. If its not though I'll remove it and put something else on my list.

No it isn't

(that's the third time today :))

Anyway, no. The Iron Giant isn't a superhero movie.

Also, reminder: If you don't number your list, shit doesn't get counted.

To be honest, I wouldn't worry about whether a movie qualified as superhero movie. If a choice is so unorthodox, it wouldn't even go near the top 10 in the first place, like Gaf's essential RPG thread.

That essay just says it's not a Superman movie.
The Giant isn’t an analog for Superman. He’s an analog for every kid who’s ever read a superhero story and been affected by it.

If Unbreakable qualifies, then Iron Giant qualifies.
