Fine with Dark Knight. Want Guardians higher up there, but at least it made the 10, didn't look like it was doing so well when I last saw it.

So, has the past decade or so really just been the golden era of superhero movies or is GAF just biased towards more recent films?

I don't watch eough super hero movies to have voted.

First Class should have been higher. Also I am curious as to when the last time most people actually saw Spider-Man 2 and X2. Those films are dookie and don't hold up today at all.

This forum's Batman Begins bias will never not be one of the weirdest things I've seen in awhile. That and the Skyfall disappointment levels.

I don't know who got to you guys, or how they did it, but L. Ron Hubbard would be proud.

#1, #2, #4, #6 and #7 are great choices.

#3 is good but too high. Big WTF for #5, #8 and #9.

#10 really? I would have put Return of the Joker or a few other DCAU films ahead of Mask of the Phantasm.

I didn't notice the voting thread....

I'd take Iron Man, The Avengers, and Batman Begins off the list but aside from that it's pretty solid. The top two is perfect.

Surprised at #1, you think with all the hate it gets here the movie wouldn't be anywhere near #1

The Dark Knight isn't a superhero movie. :P

It's a solid list, though it's a bit disappointing to see The Incredibles not listed at the top. And Blade didn't crack the top ten? I'm off to yell into a void because I forgot to vote.

half my list made top 10 so that's cool.

Winter Soldier in top 3? Good on GAF.

Sad nobody else really likes Batman Forever though. Best of the non-Nolan Batmans.

you mean batman returns right? seal blessed us on batman forever and nicole kidman was really fine. plus val kilmer was a good bruce wayne...that's about it.

Willing to bet Iron Man's there mostly because it kicked off the Marvel Universe, and not for its quality as a movie - because it's not that good a movie. There's no third act at all, really, and the first two acts are carried by Downey & Favreau basically ad-libbing it.

Iron Man and Batman Begins are basically keeping Superman: The Movie and Watchmen out of the top 10.

every screencap there is great...and then you get avengers fugly ass. thank god they changed captain america's suit. he looks like he belongs in a roger corman flick in that picture.

Mmmm, I dunno. I think you're selling it short. The chemistry between Downey and Paltrow is fantastic, and the transformation of Stark and showing how he comes to feel and care about his work... it's all pulled off really really well. The Uncle Ben moments with Yinsen... not the most original writing ever, but there's emotion there and it feels genuine and it works even when it probably shouldn't in a light fun summer blockbuster. That joy of discovery and invention that Favreau sketches out with Tony's gradual testing of the technology and the suits is exactly what a great superhero origin story is all about and it delivers exactly what it should. Yeah, the third act is weak, but the strength of those first two are enough to make up for that.

I do think Superman is way too low on that list. Mask of the Phantasm... lol wtf is it doing on there.

Ahaha no. Other way.

Avengers is an odd one because I loved the movie the first time I watched it and couldn't stand it the second time. It's a thrill ride with zero substance.

Yes, it certainly is odd that three movies that were liked by over 90% of both critics and audiences made the top 10 on this list. So odd.

Sure, it can be argued. Curious to see what your...

The chemistry between Downey and Paltrow is fantastic,

yikes.

Seriously though, compared to a lot of the movies below it, I think it could be argued that I'm not selling it too short, but GAF voters overvalue it.

edit: although... Ralph just gave me an idea for a fun comparison.

Are you mad that I don't like them or something?

Superman Unbound has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, didn't even get mentioned. It many not be the best barometer of quality, and we're talking about a collection of Gaffer opinions anyway.

That's a pretty great list. Not that I agree with everything, but I didn't have any real issue with anything until Captain America 1, and that's pretty far down for complaint number 1. Maybe Batman Returns, but I haven't seen it in forever. Dredd deserves higher, but it was a smaller movie and doesn't fit into the traditional superhero mold.
