Citizens of Earth Patch out for Wii U & 3DS in NA today; fixes a lot of the glitches

Searched; didn't find anything; impeach if old. The patch is also hitting Europe on Wednesday, apparently. I know a lot of people had been waiting for this patch to land before playing this game, and I can confirm that after downloading it, I haven't experienced any crashes like I did before the patch. I'm definitely going to take this game off the back burner now and give it some more time, as the glitches were the main thing holding it back, and now that they're out of the way
(knock on wood)
, the actual game shines through a lot better. I originally heard about the patch from this post on Miiverse: https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAAADVHjmwvWukg

As a major fan of the Earthbound/Mother franchise this game looks totally Earthbound-y.
Can I expect a mild Earthbound feeling playing this game or is it basically a totally different experience?

It's clearly one of their biggest influences. The battle system visual style is pretty much the same as Earthbound.

I've played through a bit of the beginning. There are little references and the battle system/world design is very Motherish. But the charm is lacking a little in my opinion and the writing is nowhere near Itoi quality. But I'm excited to dive back into it now that the glitches have been fixed.

Man, I dunno. I recently played through (and loved) most of the Mother/Earthbound series with my girlfriend, and bless 'em for trying, but I played a chunk of the demo of this on 3DS and maybe I just didn't play enough of it, but it really didn't do much for me. As something that mechanically was an Earthbound clone, it felt sound enough, if a little more menu-heavy than even Earthbound, but in terms of tone and everything?

You know when you google Mother series stuff enough, and you come across someone's DeviantArt image where it's a fanart crossover between Earthbound and American Dad characters or such? It's like the creators got the same thing out of Earthbound and the show, but that just wasn't the same game that I'd played. That's kind of how I feel about Citizens of Earth. Too ham-handed, too cynical. My 2¢.

Edit: Oh, and the voice acting drove me nuts

what sorcery is this

I may pick this up after I finish Mother 3 again but that may just lead to disappointment huh
What? You don't have one yet? ;)

It's more than just the battle system and visual style; there's all sorts of references to it everywhere, in both the writing and the world design... One of the biggest differences so far, though, is how much more open the world has gotten now that I've started Chapter II... Earthbound was a lot more linear, but in Citizens of Earth, I've become kind of overwhelmed with all the places I can go now. And then there's the large number of characters that this game has, which makes it feel more like Pokémon with how you have to choose which characters to use. It's also surprising just how different all the characters feel, too; pretty much everything that would normally be "just a menu option" in any other game has been turned into a character ability in this game...
(and sure, character abilities are technically still menu options, too, but the fact that they're tied to specific characters gives them an extra bit of flavor and makes them something more, in my view...)
