Recently, gumi Inc. announced that a demo of Phantom of the Kill, a Japanese strategy RPG, will be playable at Anime Expo 2015 as well as their latest mobile games for Android and iOS platforms, and other unannounced mobile games will be on display.

Phantom of the Kill is a turn-based strategy game revolving around a group of assassins on a quest to recover their lost memories in a dangerous fantasy world. In this epic journey, magic and technology collide with demons and otherworldly beings.

To date, Phantom of the Kill claims over 1,500,000 downloads and ranked number 1 in the Google Play Store in Japan!

I've downloaded it. It's better than Fantasy Tactic's as far as a SRPG is concerned. Still with a gatcha system any SRPG is going to be rough.

I hated this game. It was really slow (matches took too long), and the RNG upon RNG upon RNG nature bothered me. What I mean by that is, when pulling from the gatcha, you have to hope you get the character you want as well as the preferred "nature" for them. Then, you have to hope (upon leveling up) that you get the appropriate stat gains in the right category (they're random, so you can get +MAG continually on a strength unit and vice-versa not to mention the actual number of skill-up's per level are also random). You can re-spec stat gains, but the item to do so is extremely costly. Oh, and your nature can randomly change when evolving your unit (albeit, rarely). That's always fun. Considering how difficult the end-game apparently is, these things are all important.

Anyway, I immediately dropped the game after Gumi's sudden announcement that they were closing Chain Chronicle's (a game I was currently playing), in favor of putting their "resources" towards their new IP, Phantom of the Kill. Why should I bother to play/support their new game when they're likely to just drop it again when they feel the need to release something new? It's honestly this situation why I'm hesitant to play Brave Exvius (a game they're handling), but I'm hopeful that SE won't allow the same things to happen there...

Anyway, if you do play PotK, I hope you enjoy. For me, I'm staying as far away as possible. :(

The tendency for Gacha games to torpedo sensible game design for the sake of increasing grind is rather amazing.

Played the Japanese release, which didn't have any male characters. It seems they added it for the NA release?

Don't recommend the game, most of the time I was just praying that someone's god unit was available for rent. Then they'll proceed to one shot every unit on the map while dodging every hit. Your units don't matter.
