So about two years ago, artist Ryan Humphrey created "Bartkira" - a comic adaptation of Akira...using Simpsons characters. It was kinda nuts. That idea was expanded upon by a group of Simpsons fans and curated by animator/cartoonist James Harvey.

Now, thanks to producer Kaitlin Sullivan, we have an animated trailer to go along with it.

That scan line effect, or w/e it is, is super annoying. Kinda neat aside from that.

yeah, as the movie takes its liberties adapting the manga, it works to have discrepancies here as well.

What is Akira like? Worth watching?

I got some kind of Cyberpunk/ Neo city vibes from that trailer and it certainly wasn't the simpsons parts.

That was awesome, really well done. I still don't understand the WHY of this parody / crossover, but that animation was top-notch. Must be a huge challenge to keep the Simpsons characters on-model and match the animation timing of Akira.

It's alright. I'd say it's worth watching for the visuals alone but the manga is far superior.

In the comic, Lisa is Lady Miyako. Makes sense for the character in the manga, but in the anime she's a non-character, so I'm fine with her one or two scenes being crazy cat lady.

In fact some images and the trailer gave me the feels, even if obviously the Simpsons art should make it humorous.

Let's say it was scifi-punk. In fact it was very punk, which I find interesting because most famous Cyberpunk stuff is cyber but almost no punk at all.

One of Flanders' kids. Also, the art is literally all over the place since it is made of fan submissions, so it can go from two neat professional looking pages to pencil sketches in the next.

It looks nice but it's extremely overrated. The story completely falls apart by the end.
