The gf bought me a DS Lite. Some questions!

Yeah, so despite my steep anti-Nintendo sentiments, I have been quite tempted by the all-too-sexy DS Lite of late and lo and behold the gf presented me with one today. Awesome.

Anyway, I've got a couple of questions:

1) Game recommendations? I'm definitely picking up Phoenix Wright and Dawn of Sorrow. What else should I look out for? NSMB doesn't really appeal to me since I'm kind of sick of platformers. Any decent RPGs?

2) How does saving work in DS games? Does the DS have any internal memory? Or are games saved to the game-cards-thing? If saved games are found directly on the game-card-thing, does it have any "battery life" like the GBA/GB carts?

1) Kirby: Canvas Curse is sweet. As is Meteos. MP:H is pretty good if you're interested in a handheld FPS. I'm going to pick up the NDS version of Tetris, because I can't say no to that many modes + online.

2) Saving is done cart-by-cart.

Save games are saved to the game cart. If you don't pick up Rockman ZX or NSMB, you're missing out on some seriously quality titles, honestly.

Saves go to the game-card. And no battery life friend, it's a card.

There was an official ds lite game suggestion thread. It's not sticky now, but try to find it.

And get NSMB!

Do a search for the ever promiscuous (sp) DS LITE GAME RECOMMENDATION THREAD

and buy bubble bobble revolution

I know it's a platformer, but Super Princess Peach! Don't let the haters sway you!

Brain Age and Mario Kart DS would be good games to get, and NSMB is worth it even for the minigames

Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, NSMB, and Brain Training are all worth the money. As are Phoenix Wright and Dawn of Sorrow, but good luck finding them. I'd suggest you go ahead and pre-order PW for the August reprint.

Heres what I own so far:

Ouendan
NSMB
Castlevania: DoS
Advance Wars DS
Mario Kart DS
Kirby Canvas Curse
Phoenix Wright
Sonic Rush
Metroid Prime: Hunters
Brain Training
Tetris
Meteos

I would recommend everyone of them to be honest.

I just got a DS Lite as well (though out of my own pocket, unluckily). I found Phoenix Wright at GameStop for 20, and I got NSMB as well. Both are highly reccommended!

Must haves are:

New Super Mario Bros.
Advance Wars: Dual Strike
Pheonix Wright: Ace Attorney
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Trama Center: Under the Knife

You know, theres this game store by my college that has like 10 copies of Phenoix Wright. Every time i walk pass there and see them, I'm like "If only gaffers were here right now."

**** those questions you better work on taking this girl out somewhere nice because of this gift

No, this is easy. You buy her a DS Lite and a couple copies of Animal Crossing and Mario Kart.

The only reason why the save battery would every die on a GBA/GB cart would be if you had a pirate cart. Make sure you don't buy GB/GBA games on eBay, since you have a very good chance of getting a pirate cart.

I too think it's strange that there's no more mentioning of the girlfriend except in the topic title. It's a possibility* that the TC is a selfish and spoiled person who uses the term 'girlfriend' merely to brag about the fact that he has a girlfriend (thus the use of the term only in the topic title), but in reality hardly ever thinks of this 'girlfriend' as a humane person with feelings, who might want attention or grattitude or affection herself. Thereby, I stand by a statement made by a previous poster:

QFT

* note: just stating it's a possibility.

Trauma Center and Ouendan are both great. Also be sure to pick up a screen protector. I picked up the Hori one (imported it w/Ouendan), and it works great. There aren't many RPGs on the DS yet; the only one I can think of is Mario & Luigi 2, but I never got around to it.

Have fun with the Lite!

Yeah **** her brains out or something. I mean if it were my girlfriend then sex and a great dinner should handle it. Also give her a whole day of your time or something, and some chocolate.

Also, probably marry her.

AND if she also has a DS Lite, buy every game she has that you two can play, and MK:DS.

Wot up D, get a girl and let me know how crazy I really am.
Hmmm, true... I often find myself as an exception for not seeing girls as pieces of mumbling flesh like all guys around me.

Makes me feel bad when girls are actually surprised that I treat them as humans. Or actually like to talk instead of trying to get the girl in bed.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUENDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!

When I was looking for it before, there were only a few copies here but a lot of Phoniex Wright...now when I'm looking for Phoneix Wright, it's the other way around :(

Best ones : NSMB, Castlevania, Trauma Center , Advance Wars , Phoenix Wright ,MP:H & Mario Kart.
You should check out those.

The original poster asked for RPG recommendations, and by the seeming lack of RPG recommendations, I guess that says something. ;)

From GameRankings.com:

Top 5 DS RPGs (minimum 5 reviews/votes)

1. Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time - 85.8%
2. Mega Man Battle Network 5: Double Team - 70.8%
3. LostMagic - 68.3%
4. Lunar: Dragon Song - 57.1%
5. Tao's Adventure - 49.8%

From that list, I'd definitely recommend Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. There's also Advance Wars: DS which is a strategy war game. I haven't played it, yet, but it's gotten very good reviews. Final Fantasy III DS is coming out in September.

GBA is where you're likely to find the most quality RPGs, though. (The DS plays GBA games, in case you didn't know.)

From GameRankings.com:

Top 10 GBA RPGs (minimum 5 reviews/votes)

1. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga - 90.4%
2. Golden Sun - 89.6%
3. Golden Sun: The Lost Age - 86.9%
4. Final Fantasy IV Advance - 84.1%
5. Pokemon: Sapphire - 83.4%
6. Pokemon: Ruby - 83.3%
7. Mega Man Battle Network 2 - 82.7%
8. Pokemon: FireRed - 81.5%
9. Pokemon: LeafGreen - 81.0%
10. Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls - 80.4%

Everything on that list has good buzz about it. There's also Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI coming out later this year for the GBA.

As for general DS game recommendations, I'd really suggest trying out some of the Touch Generations line of games.

* $20 each for Brain Age and Big Brain Academy is worth it just to try them out.
* Nintendogs, and if you don't like it, you're girlfriend probably will. ;)

You may want to check out online stuff, too. My favorite online game is Tetris DS, but any of them are worth it, if you already like that game type (Tony Hawk, Mario Kart, Metroid: Hunters, LostMagic).

I'll also second your choices of Castlevania and Phoenix Wright. :)

:lol

I treat my gf real nice as well but thanks for the advice anyway especially the one involving "f**king her brains out".

Well, I'm not from the US so I just might have a chance of hunting down DoS and Phoenix Wright around here.

When is the GBA port of FF5 and FF6 coming? I was thinking of picking up Animal Crossing since I loved that game on the Gamecube. Does it accommodate multiple saves? Or can I only save one town but have multiple players for that one town?

I'm not interested in platformers so NSMB is still out and Mario Kart has never interested me anyway.

I'm kind of interested in the Brain Training game but I was just at a store and saw Brain Training Academy and Brain Age, I think. What's the difference? Which is the original one?

I don't think the dates have been announced, but at least one of them is probably coming this fall.

One town, multiple players. Just a heads up, but most of the game is the same as the GameCube version. It does offer more house expansions, creative opportunities, and online play, though.

Brain Age = first Brain Training - aimed more at adults, less of a typical "game"
Brain Academy = Japanese Gentle Brain Training - aimed at younger ages (not "teh kiddy" though), more of a typical "game"

Personally, I enjoy Brain Age more, but both are good.
