Diggeronline was free for a couple of weeks in June I believe, so that should be removed.

Edit: Dungeon of the Endless in April had a free weekend.

Isn't that Don't Starve Together figure inflated by the fact it was given free to DS owners?

Though that's still a lot of DS owners anyway.

Great stuff Knurek!

Might be useful to point out that Witcher 3 sold more on GOG than it did on Steam that month it launched.

I'm also pretty curious what the state of GTA V was considering it is similarly all Rockstar Social Club outside of Steam

Glad to see Secret of Grindea on the July list. Even in EA that game is super fun, and definitely hits a lot of the Secret of Mana nostalgia notes I imagine have to be woven into the design. Also Rocket League is a monster.

While I knew CSGO was selling pretty good, I had no idea it was that good.

I have to give it to Valve, they really turned that thing around after the slow start it had.

Steam ownership changes between 01.07.2015 and 01.08.2015:

I'm not sure your discount numbers are correct. Wasn't Terraria $2.50 during this window?

These numbers seem odd to me. How accurate is this data supposed to be exactly?

At this point I think we've had 20+ developers say that the SteamSpy numbers are accurate within their margin of error, so these are probably the most accurate sales numbers we've ever had for anything on NeoGAF.

No, they actually did a pretty marginal sale on Terraria despite the game having been $2.50 before.

That said, still well worth $7.50, but it did stick out.

Fallout 3 & NV doing over 800k combined in a month is pretty impressive. I know the sale landed perfectly next to the announcement of the sequel, but they're still 7 & 5 years old.

I wonder how many people are actually playing ARK more than jus casually. Or can even get it to run all the time. The game looks awesome in trailers but the real thing is a lot different, at least the beginning 30 hours.

Wonder how well Type 0s PC port will do

What

7.) Counter-Strike: Source (186,308, price $19.99, max discount 0%)

I'm equally puzzled by that. There was no discount or special event. I remember somekind a game exploit using a Source engine game.

Do we know the region where the increase was spotted? It could be territory specific?

Why has Counter Strike been blowing up so big? There was a world championships advertisement at the movie I went to as well.

Never, seeing how popular and free Dota 2 is.

And they can't make the game free because the $15 buy in price keeps the cheaters and smurfs at bay and gives the competitive modes just enough credibility to keep people playing.

I do wish they would make the casual modes free and charge a monthly fee for the competitive mode and upgrade to 128tick servers as a result.

CSGO is the most popular non-F2P game on Steam (and the 2nd overall). Its sales actually don't really surprise me.

If it ever becomes F2P, maybe a while after that. CS is a lot more accessible than Dota, and both are addictive as eachother. Hard to say really.

Dota has China and Source 2 most likely will open up more of China to dota 2 (alot of China still plays dota 1 because of hardware)

Yeah, that number is impressive as hell. Steam is a juggernaut.

I didn't join til 2007, I remember laughing at it during its infancy when there were plenty of problems and there were complaints that if anything it presented more problems and barriers to playing games. Times have changed a lot.

Honestly I'm kinda surprised that Bethesda hasn't updated Fallout 3 to support Steamworks and updated it for better Win 7+ support, it would probably sell even better then it does now.

What I also find interesting is that the majority of Steam games during that 4-month period were sold outside of the Steam Summer Sale. SteamSpy stats show roughly 38 million games sold during the summer sale, which leaves roughly 69 million game copies that were sold during the rest of that time period. While 38 million copies is a massive number for an 11-day period, almost 70 million copies sold in the space of three and a half months is seriously impressive.

Holy shit CS:GO? I always kinda considered the game a mild flop even though I enjoyed it. Probably shpuld have looked at the Most Played list but I felt like the game came out and nobody talked about it.

It was rough for awhile. Valve has really turned it around the last year or two.

kinda shines a light as to why some devs still don't take pc as a platform seriously

most of these games are things you would expect pc owners to play and are only made with pc in mind

Man I would say the opposite. The vast majority are either already multiplatform, scheduled to be multiplatform or in genres that are perfectly viable on basically any system. It's not like it's full of Paradox strategy games and Eurotruck sims.

Hopefully my sarcasm detector just isn't broken today.

If anything it is the complete opposite. Naturally the games seeing great activity updates and content are rising to the top. However, taking a look at top 20 or top 50, it's pretty clear multiplatform titles do just fine. More so, many games start on PC and then expand over to other platforms.
