Grand Kingdom - Official Site
*Credits to GematsuMore than 100 years since the fall of the Oldein Empire, mercenaries, not soldiers, are burdened with leading battles upon the ruined land.
That person did it to make end’s meet… That one to take advantage and earn a profit amidst the chaos… They exposed themselves to death for loyalty.
As the leader of groups of newbie mercenaries, they are responsible for guiding forces into many battlefields. At the same time, shadows move in secret. That will cause a major incident to occur within the continent. This is the story of the mercenaries living in a world of warfare.
*Credits to Gematsu + info from playing the demo.
- 13 different classes to choose from. (Gender locked) though you can edit their facial, hair, clothing color and voice including pitch.
- Visible equipment changes for weapons, shields and facial / head accessories.
- Weapon Stats customization avaiable with the blacksmith / forge. Also gems for slotted equipment that add various stats.
- You can employ class-based units that possess various special characteristics for your mercenary group. Then head into battle via quests or online.
- The player is a rookie mercenary leader who belongs to the guild, and can have his group take on the requests that come in from each nation. But there are things happening behind the scenes of war, and the player gets involved in a major incident that involves the entire continent. The story will be fully voiced and promises a charming cast.
- Arrange your units and gimmicks, take on strategic battle formations, and combine those with various action-oriented techniques.
- Formations are broken up into defensive or offensive. Depending on if you are attacking the enemy position or defending your own, this will change the battle formation used so plan carefully when setting it up before setting out to fight.
- Map skills that provide support for the player, ranging from healing, hiding, even warping to other nearby or random locations. Uses TP which will fill when specific conditions are met.
- Via online play, four major powers battle for dominance. Promise your allegiance to one country, or fight for your own wealth and fame. It all depends on you.
- PlayStation 4 and PS Vita users can play online together via cross-play.
- Friendly Fire is an actual feature, so do pay attention to placement of your own troops / attacks that can knock down enemies as colliding with your units will damage them.
- Able to hire up to 2 extra units of other players in the online mode which will show up in battle to assist and be controlled by the player till the end of that specific war.

A: No idea at this time. At least no announcements that Im familiar with. Considering this game has an online portion that seems to use servers, makes me wonder if someone would be willing to do that for the West with the localization as it is a fairly large part of the game also.Q: Any word on localization for the West?
#1:
A: Strategy RPG. The map itself is almost like a board game in the sense where there are set locations you can traverse to and from. Though in general it seems that your time spent on a specific map is limited by number of moves. Also the morale of your troops will drop if you continously put them into combat situations. On the map there are wandering enemies that are visible, hidden, traps, treasures, events, map weapons and such. Fairly robust title from what the demo showed. Combat is done in a semi-action / turn fashion where units move in turn according to their speed rating and when combat / support actions are performed a small bit of action is necessary with moving your unit on the battlefield that is made up of 3 lanes and then performing the attack. Bunch of other stuff to talk about but this answer would get far too long as is.Q: What type of game is this?
#2:
A: Yes there is one up on the JPSN site for both the PS4 & PS Vita. Though the online "War" mode will no longer be accessible via the demo due to the full game going live. So I imagine the demo will tell you to purchase the full version if you want to access those gated off features. Though you still should be able to play the first and second map of the games single player portion.Q: Does this game have a demo?
#3:
A: That I am actually not sure on, as have not started the full game yet. Though one thing for sure from the demo is you get a pretty damned good amount of money and the other currency type that is used to buy some good gear / resources from the Kingdom you have a contract with. Do think you need a JPSN account though to play the online portion. Also you are limited to 4 character classes only, Fighter, Witch, Hunter, Medic for the demo. (Full game everything is unlocked, not sure if the Noble was first print DLC bonus only or unlocks later in the story)Q: Do I need to play online?
#4:
A: While not exactly, Id say you will have issues with the events in game as you would not know what is being asked of you or mission objectives and such. Granted it shouldnt be that complex. Then there are the skills / stats etc. Feel free to go fumble around at your own risk.Q: Do I need to understand Japanese to play this?
#5:
A: The AI does not seem to be stupid and there is also friendly fire to consider, so am sure it will give you a decent challenge. And you will lose if you do not think about what you are doing. Resource management is also important as heling items are not exactly cheap and the TP for the Map Skills take a bit to charge up. Overall from what I went through with the demo was an enjoyable experience. Quite well thought out system for the most part.Q: How hard is this game?
#6:
A: Yes and No. You are unable to change the gender of units, this is due to the units being designed as gender specific. Though you can edit the facial + skin color, hair + color, clothing + color and voice including pitch.Q: Can I change the appearance of my units?
#7:
A: To some extent, things like weapons, shields and head / facial accessories are visible. Though be warned if you make a head selection with your character that already has a head item equipped regardless of just being "visual" the game will not allow that character to equip head slot accessories. It even says so in game so its not that this is a bug. The price of vanity.Q: On the topic of customization is my characters equipment visible?
#8:
A: Simple is multiple attack skills are chained / cycled through with the Circle button and sub skills are set to Triangle and Square.Q: What is the difference with the Simple and Technical controls?
Technical is a single skill is set to a single button and there are 6 buttons / combinations you can set. Circle, Triangle, Square then L1 + Circle, Triangle Square. So from there you basically have to manually activate everything. But I imagine this is what the good players will be doing to maximize their damage. Those who are good at the Tales games should feel right at home with this. Though if you try to do a same skill twice it will not take the 2nd input causing your turn to end so just keep that in mind. There is also a training dummy that allows you to practice your skill setup in the event you go with the Technical setting. As the last thing you want is not knowing what the fuck you are doing in the middle of combat wasting a turn with a character.
In relation to this topic there are also attacks which cause knockback, knock down, sending an enemy into the air, using in tandem with a gimmick etc. So just keep that in mind. It is also the reason why you will get the most out of your melee characters by going the Technical route with controls as you have exact control over what skill you do and when, rather than just cycling through skills with 1 button that can lead to timing errors / not having the right skill come out when you want due to it not being next in order.

A: Actually no it seems. A bit odd, the issue of Famitsu that "should" have the scores in it did not have Grand Kingdom listed. Wonder if its due to the online mode not being active yet? Though the demo gave a fairly good idea of how it works and its not like Famitsu writes all that complex reviews anyways. Strange considering this game is actually good from my time spent with the rather robust demo, AKA lite version. JP users find it odd also, seeing how the next issue did not have it either, can imagine they skipped on the review for whatever reason. Though its not like anyone worth their salt takes what Famitsu says seriously, so there really is not anything to worry about here.Q: Are there any official review scores out?

- Thanks goes out to Spike Chunsoft / Monochrome for the resources used to make up the graphics in this OT.
- Thanks goes out to Gematsu for the informational resources found within this OT.
- Thanks goes out to レイジ Youtube channel for the videos in the Media section.
*Not the most exciting OT but at least there is a lot of stuff for you people to watch in the media section lol. Will have to add the info about the different Kingdoms later. There really wasnt any info on it in English. And I hate translating stuff. Then again since as usual there will be less than a handful of those who actually play the game, might not bother with that as not worth the time.
