Do I sell my GC Ocarina of Time and just download the VC version?

I got it for free for pre-ordering Wind Waker and people still seem to be buying them on ebay for $20. The wii version will be like what $10 and have better(?) graphics.

You don't know if (that is, when) it'll be on the VC, or for how much. That GC disk will be playable on the Wii. Just my two cents.
We also don't know for how long we'll be able to play VC games if the DRM requires us to get authorization from Nintendo in order to play. OoT GCN disc = works forever as long as we have a working GCN/Wii.

The GCN disc is bound to stop working before the console though.

Optical discs don't last forever.

I'd get the VC version only if Nintendo redid the Prerendered areas in high res or better yet replaced with new 3d areas.

what, the laser wears them out?
No, the bonding between the layers break down over time, eventually rendering the data unreadable.
Or something to that effect.
Recordable discs are especially vulnerable to it, but with pre-recorded media, it should take decades.

.. and it's not just optical discs that have these problems. The old Famicom Disc System discs have started to go bad already. And if you're into Arcades I'm sure you've heard of things like "the suicide battery".

Big data centres have to constantly migrate their data because their backup solutions are just not meant to last. It's a big problem really.
