I came across my GameBoy Color...

...as well as Pokemon Red and that Tennis game from 1989, when I was looking for a few other things in my basement.

Aside from the display which is a little dark, everything still works. For some reason, even the battery has enough power.

Just a small memory I wanted to share with everyone, feel free to lock the thread though :)

Just be ready for all your old save files to be gone. The batteries inside those carts will be long dead; all your Pokemon are in a better place now.

"Rote"? OG Pokémon being critical of the new games

Red & Blue will probably be okay, it was Gold & Silver that was more likely to suffer

My 16 year old Red save died last year. :( My Yellow and Crystal are still going, barely. I also have the Pokémon Edition GBC, but the first one with Togepie that came with Pokémon Yellow.

My oldest GB cart with a save still active is Dankey Kang 94. 21 years and still trucking - and still one of the best games of all time, IMO.

That's Nintendo for ya, I recently dug out my DS lite that I haven't used since 2011 and it still has some charge left.

My Red and Yellow version are still going strong, I should retire them and buy them on the 3DS virtual console but eh the cart holds a lot of memory to me and I prefer to keep them going.

lucky.
I found my old Pokemon Red ~5 years ago, saw the save was deleted and didn't think twice about it. played it all day, like 8 hours, turned it off and went to bed. woke up the next morning: save gone.

I have my old yellow gbc sitting on my desk right next to me. Just pulled out of my drawer for the first time in years this week.

I believe I still have my Color in my desk but I haven't attempted to play anything on it as I'm not sure where my games for it even are right now lol. Let alone do I expect the games to still work.

I transferred all my Game Boy saves to my computer long ago, along with every other old video game system I own. They will live forever.

I just found mine too! The battery case is missing, but it still works perfectly.

Time to party like it's 1998

Ha! OK, OK, let me rephrase that: It needs to come back in a system I'd buy, a.k.a. the 3DS. :-P

(Love the 3D effect. Gimme the 3D *and* the goofy-ass clear plastic!)

The goofy-ass clear plastic look needs to come back

Remember these?

I always wanted one of these. I think they started with a special DK64 bundle. I still have my old, boring black one from launch.

I have two; a standard yellow one and this one:

The speakers tend to go first, in my experience, so might want to watch out for that OP.

That's funny. We recently cleared out the cellar at my wive's parents house and found her and her sister's GBCs. Their dad wanted to throw them away but I saved them. :)

Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal original batteries are probably all dead nowadays because they were powering both the save file AND a clock. Red/Blue/Yellow batteries actually have about a 50/50 shot (if not better) of still being alive even today.

When I checked last year, my Crystal version was the only game out of all of them that could still hold a save file. It's probably dead by now though
