The Nintendo eShop will be accessible in Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary and Romania AS OF 10 December 2015 and it'll be all in English, and people in these countries will need to pay in euros.
That's how Nintendo officially told our development department.

Pretty sure you'd just get stuff like patches for Nintendo games, iirc.

Anyway, can someone from DevGAF confirm this?

It's been opened in Czech Republic for some time but I just stuck with having a UK account instead, just in case they restricted it for some reason. Apparently that was a mistake because

a) haven't heard of any restrictions
b) apparently the prices on the local eShop version are quite a bit lower

so if you lived in one of those countries before, you couldn't access eshop at all ?
On 3DS I don't think you not have been able to even use Streetpass Mii Plaza (I know it doesn't allow you to accept the privacy agreement when the system is set to Zimbabwe).

But on both 3DS and Wii U there was no eShop to access. If you wanted to use the eShop you had to set your country to one with an eShop (preferably to a € using one that uses English like Ireland) which also on the Wii U means setting up an NNID in this incorrect country which could now lead to support issues.

I don't get why anyone thought having country being permanently fixed for NNID was a good idea (like what was wrong with the 3DS having a non-transferable wallet for each country and letting you switch at will
which can still be done if you don't have NNID but it now means no Pokemon Shuffle and demos
).

UK is one of the worst choices outside of Norway and Switzerland. NOE generally use the bullshit exchange rate of €1=£0.90 which is really off-tune. Some Wii U VC games are an exception. Those are pinned at the Wii Shop prices of £7 for N64, £3.49 for NES and £5.59 for SNES. edit: Remembered that they forgot for N64 making it cheaper to buy 1000 Wii points and then upgrade if you were to entirely use UK.

When I last looked at Czech Republic (a few years ago) it was €1=25CZK.

That is what happens in limited eShops. I think the only limited eShop left is Turkey.

We all have accounts in different countries. Now the question is: Can we move or merge accounts? Probably not.

Yeah, I doubt that myself.
Even if they allowed you to change regions, I seriously doubt that would be a good idea. Nintendo's past actions have shown that they deem these countries as low priority so I would be really worried about long term support. There's also the potential for licensing issues and publishers simply forgetting/skipping these regions.
You would also most likely be unable to redownload any content that's not available on the UK eShop (the 1st Inazuma eleven game, non English Layton...) as this was the case when they introduced the NNID on 3DS, e.g., if you had bought the Italian version of a Professor Layton and created a NNID outside of Italy/Switzerland you would have been unable to redownload the game, though you would still be able to play it as long as you had on your SD card.

Great news, claims of Netflix expanding to Estonia next year also came earlier today.

Sony and Micro-"why on earth would I live there"-soft should be ashamed.

Uh, what?
First of all, we don't even know what kind of content and prices we can except. Second, Sony already supports all those countries except Estonia, Latvia and Lithuana. True, MS only supports Slovakia and Hungary out of those countries but it doesn't really matter because of my next point. PS4 and X1 are region free and they allow accounts from multiple regions on the same console, X1 even lets you change your account's region pretty easily so it's even less of a hassle. You will never be locked out of buying (or redownloading) games due to arbitrary bullshit like you are on Nintendo's consoles.

I will take being able to buy any game I want over halfhearted official support any day of the week.

You're lucky. I'd love to finally get some Netflix over here.

Content distribution is still an utter nightmare in 2015 and I don't see it changing anytime soon. The internet should make things easier, not harder.

At least with the new rating system we might see global game launches more often, yay.
