So... Microsoft Studios said it's OK for Rare Replay to come to Wii U.

EDIT Title: MicrosoftStudios responds to a tweet about Rare Replay coming to Wii U.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to create a thread but this tweet has been bothering me for the last few days, is Microsoft happy to support/publish other games in their library to Nintendo platforms. That sounds kind of cool. Especially as a Nintendo fan.

So, Microsoft Studios seems quite happy to publish Rare Replay for Wii U but its up to Rare if they want to port/develop for the Wii U.

I'm not sure of their relations other than the fact that both their NA headquarters are right next to each other. According to Phil Spencer (Head of Xbox) the relationship between the two is quite positive. I'm aware of Microsoft previously bringing their IP's to the Gameboy/DS.

So is Microsoft being serious. The fact that this tweet came from Microsoft Studios adds a lot of weight to this situation. What do you think GAF?

Can we play Viva Piñata TiP with full GamePad integration someday in the future ;)

At this point Rare Replay has done all it could for console sales, and selling this to Wii U owners would just bring in additional income. They'd be dumb not to port it.

All about target market. Rare's back catalog appeals to Nintendo faithful and Micro$oft knows it. Heck I bet it'd sell even better on Wii U.

The account didn't say it's actually okay for it lol.

Besides, just a twitter response from a corporate accoumt. Need Phil to support it as well, tben maybe I'd believe it more than just a random response without any obligation to hold up to it.

As nice as that'd be, the Twitter account is more than likely run by someone who doesn't have any particular insight into who makes that call.

That's the very definition of a non-answer. Microsoft owns Rare. People suggesting the idea to Rare wouldn't change anything as it's not Rare that makes such decisions.

Microsoft has allowed Rare to produce many games for Nintendo platforms since they bought them in 2002.

As long as it doesn't damage their Xbox business, and they can make money off of it, why not?

But I assume that the 'Rare Replay for Wii U' would be contingent on leaving out the Xbox titles and incorporating the Nintendo ones originally left out of the Xbox One release (like Donkey Kong 64, Star Fox Adventures, etc.)

All I see is a person saying "suggest it to Rare", not "it's okay for Rare to port". Also, does the guy writing for the Twitter account have the authority to make that decision even if he did suggest the latter?

No, these Twitter accounts are always run by PR.

That said, Phil Spencer is a cool guy, so he's not the kind of boss who would fire somebody over making a statement like that.

I'm sure he's open to the possibility himself. The issue in making it happen most likely lies with Nintendo, who generally prefer to do their own things.
