PS4GAF, let us tell you why Yakuza 0 will be Your Next Favorite PS4 title of 2016

As the 'Year of Dreams' comes to a close, I find that many a PS4 owner, let alone PS4GAF are neglecting one of the big surprise announcements during PSX '15:
Yakuza 0 getting a Physical and Digital English release in 2016. (Note that Yakuza 0 shipped over 500,000 units combined in Asian regions and Japan COMBINED)

Known in Japan as Ryu ga Gotoku (Like a Dragon), the Yakuza series are best described as action games, with lots of punching people in the face, stomping on people's faces and the occasional pile-driving people's necks on the pavement. And that's just a handful of the violently satisfying actions you can do in the series.

Yakuza 0 is a prequel.
This can't be instated enough; being a prequel means you don't have to worry too much about the story and can easily get into the game without knowing much from the previous games.
Yakuza 0 takes place in 1988 Japan at the time of the "bubble economy" and focuses on 2 characters:
The first is long-time protagonist Kiryu Kazuma during his early years working for the Tojo Clan in Kamuro-cho, Tokyo

The other character is Majima Goro who is sent to Osaka to oversee the prosperity of a club.

More about the game and characters will be explained in the videos I link below.

To get a good understanding of the series and to garner interest in Yakuza 0, I present to you 2 videos by HyperBitHero-
The first is a video about the series in general, as he gives a quick look at all games in the series released in Japan by Jan. 2015
Please watch in 1080p/720p for best quality

Next is HBH's newest video where he talks about Yakuza 0, the series' first English PS4 title, and showcases its fantastic gameplay elements and combat-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZD2eufsDII
Please watch in 1080p/720p for best quality

The first 7 minutes cover the story of the game based on what was shown in Japanese trailers and has some scenes from the first chapter for each character . As such there wouldn't be any spoilers, if you would like to go into the game with as little info about the plot as possible though, just start watching from around 7:20 as that's where HyperBitHero showcases the combat and the gameplay elements present in Yakuza 0.

Hopefully this video and impressions from fellow GAFfers will interest you more into following and eventually picking up this game, cuz hey you can NEVER have enough Outrun in your life.

As a small bonus, here are some WEBMs of the combat and city exploration within the game

I don't know if Yakuza is a series for me, but I am willing to try Yakuza 0. I have always admired Yakuza from a distance because the fashion is so awesome. I can't get enough of the suits and stuff.

Played through the Japanese PS+ demo and got my hands on the full game for a bit.

It feels really good and has lots of content.

Tried not doing too much for a hopeful Western release, and now it's getting one.

Can't wait

i borrowed a PS4 for bloodborne. i'm buying a PS4 for Yakuza 0.

2015 was the year of yakuza for me. did the marathon run of playing 1-4 leading up to 5 which i'm playing now. as always i'd recommend anyone with a PS2 and an interest in the series start from the beginning. it was a tremendously rewarding experience to see these characters and games grow as the years go by. and when it comes to the narrative, the first 2 games have the best characters and story!

People don't understand the depth and layer of gameplay it provides in actual transition. it's a great mix off old school open ended design while not being an open world. with great stories and extra things to do.

I really feel people just don't get it.

People that love shenmue - bloodborne - dark souls - etc

really need to play this series (while not combat hard or what not) has a lot of other things in it that fans of those games should like.

Do we get classic arcade games?

Read the last paragraph/lines in my post ;)

So is Yakuza 0 chronologically the first one in terms of story? I would rather jump in with 0 than start from 1 to see if I like the series.

Yeah you'll be fine, mainly as this game lets the player know of the bonds between the characters from Yakuza 1 onwards.
Yakuza 1 is getting its remake released on PS4 in Japan in a few weeks which will have its gameplay build off of Yakuza 0.

Well I'm convinced! All I've done in 5 so far is read an Initial D manga, beat on some dudes, and drive a taxi and I already love the game lol.

Also even if you didn't jump into Yakuza 0 or 1, the rest come with a "Reminisce" menu that lets you watch summaries of the preceding games.

Just finished Yakuza 3 and got the platinum so I am a little burnt out. But I bought Yakuza 4 and 5 and will play it some time in the future. Hopefully I finish them before Yakuza 0 comes out.

Ooohhh, weird. I thought 0 was a remake of the first game. Didn't they announce that recently? I might have just misunderstood.

Been wanting to get in on Yakuza for a while. This might just be the perfect time.

Dat third one. Majima is so gloriously psychopathic.

could never
Never played Yakuza, doesn't look special at all. But I'll give it a go as long as it's not too much like Shenmue.

This is one of a few more threads I plan on making to hype up Y0 BTW

Oh it's its own kind of beast.
And once you finish this game, you'll know why it's special.

I have never played any of the Yakuza games, but I've always wanted to try the series, so I will most likely get this one.

Have they said when the western release date is?

i'll give it a shot.
*BUT* personally my best bet for the "Next favourite game for ps4" of 2016 is still Persona 5.

Only that it'd be released in 2016. Latest release would be by December. Earliest is prob. Summer I think.

Physical!? This is a very good information for me, because I have all parts of Yakuza on my shelfs, except fifth - only digital - Yakuza.

Man i was hoping this was about the European release...

Seeing as all prior Yakuza games before 5 got retail release in Europe this game will follow. I'm guessing they are working through some licensing or some such to get it released in Europe.

will buy this day one for sure.

i really hope we somehow will get a Yakuza 5 PS4 port....i dont want to hang my ps3 on the tv again.

probably it will never happen....:(

Day Zero for me. I have been a fan of the series despite only playing the first game. I am sure it will be among one of the great exclusives of ps4. Need another game to fill that awesome gap that Bloodborne gave.

I must have missed this announcement. I'm guessing PSX?

Anyway, never played any of the games so I'll give this a shot. It's sad when games don't get localised.

I've said this in DMC4SE's OT and I'll say it here again.

Stylish action fans, Yakuza 0 has officially joined the ranks of the games in the sub-genre, so DO NOT MISS IT! Seriously, what other 3D stylish action brawler title is there for PS4? Get this game action fans, you won't regret it!
