Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/FireRed/LeafGreen -> Diamond/Pearl details

The Pokemon from the older games actually get transferred if you have Diamond and Pearl in the DS slot and either Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed or LeafGreen in the GBA slot. This isn't trading but outright transfer. Serebii.net seems unsure if the transfer is permanant, but if it isn't, then the obvious restrictions apply: transferring back only Pokemon and items that were available in the GBA games. Only 6 Pokemon per day can be traded, although I'm sure messing with the DS's firmware clock can remove that restriction. The features will probably be accessed after getting the National Dex in Emerald, or repairing Celio's machine in FireRed/LeafGreen. Ruby and Sapphire will probably work instantly. Likewise, something in Diamond and Pearl must be accomplished to read the GBA games.

Diamond and Pearl also connect with Pokemon Ranger, in order to capture Manaphy.

Eh? That's how I always imagined it was going to work...

I always thought we'd have to catch the selection of old Pokemon in DP and then trade with yourself... but apparently, transfers ftw. :D

I wonder what we have to do? Getting the NationalDex was an entirely pointless pain in the arse to be able to trade with Ru/Sa.

For ****'s sake you already need to have badges to make them listen to you!

Talking about FRLG right? No need for the National Dex in Emerald to trade with Ru/Sa, only FRLG. They made us do the Celio stuff to legitimize the Sevii Islands.

Obviously Fi/Le. What other games have my beloved Charizard? :P

Emerald is part of the Ru/Sa engine anyway. Of course it'd be able to trade with Ru/Sa straight away...

As I said on Serebii's forums...
I'm okay with the six-a-day limitation, even though at that rate it'll take me something like ten weeks to transfer everything--and that would be transferring six on Diamond and six on Pearl every day. I do kind of hope that I'm wrong about how it works, though, and it's actually six per GBA cartridge per day, seeing as I own all five GBA games, and a second copy of Emerald (got it for free).

Though, of course, they'll probably make some kind of Pokemon Box-style Wii game eventually anyway.

September 30th is the day Toys R Us gives out mew right?
Apparently.

Is that sarcasm? The DS cannot read legacy GB carts. GBA and DS only.

I know this. It still doesn't save my pokemon from living in isolation for eternity on that Yellow cart :(

You actually post on serebiiforums? Why on god's name would you do that? It's worse than gamefaqs.

As a huge Pokemon fan, and Serebii.net fan, I agree. Their forums are trash.

The people who use the Japanese Pokemon names annoy me. One person even had a sig linking to a dictionary of Pokemon names. JUST USE THE ENGLISH ONES, DAMNIT. :|

So how does this work, exactly? I can't imagine that letting you transfer dozens of 80+ level Pokemon to a new Diamond/Pearl game would be very fair...

Like the first post says, you can only trade 6 pokemon per day (per cartridge, most likely). If you trade in a lvl 80 pokemon and you're still early in the game you won't be able to control its actions in battle... until you get the gym badge that lets you control pokemon above lvl 80.

So if you transfer high level monsters into your D/P game, they'll just be sitting in the computer boxes for awhile.

Ahhh.... okay. I didn't know that badges let you control higher-level Pokemon. I only owned the original Red, and it's been years since I've touched the game.

Here's what I'll do. When I get the games, I'll set my DS clock back one year. Then I'll transfer six after six until I have no more to transfer and then I'll speed the clock back up to the modern day.

I'm just going to play the game normally first, then worry about transferring my pokemon (who are really weak anyway, I don't grind and collect them all)

Those worrying about not getting mew shouldn't. When DP comes out I'll give you one of the mews I get legit at Toys R Us. (Using the cloning glitch)

So I'll have infinite mews for all you

Assuming my toys r us doesn't explode.

Same here. I hate collecting and trying to build them all up. Most pokemon are boring/look like crap or just suck at their Types anyway. Not worth the long, boring hours. In Ruby, I just have my "squad" of 6-8 monsters with good fighting level and a few more with useful abilities for getting around.

I bought FireRed right after Ruby and was burned out on Pokemon so I'm still at the beginning. =/

I dunno, but I'm sure Di/Pe, like Animal Crossing GCN (dunno about DS), will be able to tell when you fuxored with your DS's clock so can abuse the game. The last thing we need is to see a Mr. Resetti in the guise of a Pikachu forcing you to turn your clock back so you can't cheat. :p

And besides, this 6 a day thing is probably for your favourites anyway. Why transfer ALL your collection again when it's easier to catch them all yourself, trade them etc (with exception of monsters you can only get from legacy carts of course).

Can't wait.

GC version can only detect travelling backwards in time, IIRC (ie setting the date/clock before the date/time of the save). You can still abuse the game to a certain extent.

I think DS version does nothing besides resets without saving (which is bothersome when the DS run out of power).

O_o

Here's hoping GAMEFREAKS don't smarten up and make the game detect when the system clock is set forward.

Gyah! I want Charmander again...... I don't have a remake though..... Would someone be able to ermmm trade me one online when the game comes out? ^^;

The TRU in Tallahassee is a giant shithole and they didnt have the Animal Crossing items available so I'm sure they won't have Mew. Poop. :(

My team is the strongest. My Solarbeam Houndoom will rule the world.

Transfer is damn good… I'd hate to capture a bunch of trash to trade… and its not like I plan to play the Advance games again… 5 times is enough
